It may have been a slip, but If Sakurai says Namco isn't getting any special treatment yet he adds Pac Man then who knows. He's unpredictable. They can say that Rayman isn't a playable character, but this could be a cover up, no?
No special treatment more likely means "We aren't going to give them numerous 3rd parties just because they're working with us."

Otherwise I'd still be hoping for Lloyd Irving, Asbel Lhant, or Luke fon Fabre.

But on topic, that's a cool idea for expanding crews and narrowing your field of play.

Personally, I'd like for either Lloyd or Klonoa, but that's not gonna happen. Asbel's fighting style doesn't seem like it'd work all that well for Smash. Maybe as an assist trophy? He'd chase a foe down, chain 4 assault artes on them, switch to burst style and chain the same burst arte 3 times, then sheath his sword and disappear.

But yeah, online stuff sounds cool.

I'm not sure if this is where to share this but here goes.

Nintendo of Canada posted gameplay and commented about online play features. You will be able to keep track of how you do and join groups for different levels of play or region based.

Skip to 8:21 in the video

Source-Super Smash Bros. Wii U Gameplay Session from Nin…: http://youtu.be/AiWdJcEEC7s

I am excited about this if it's done right anyway.
"You can keep track of how you do..." Sounds like GSP.
"...And join groups for different levels of play..." For fun and for Glory.
"...Or region based." Worldwide or regional, typical options for online play for Nintendo games.

He basically said nothing. And wasn't this the guy who thought Rayman was playable? Even if he ment there was a true ranking or community system, we can't trust what he says.

Um, what the guy said was clearly inferring that Rayman is playable. There's always the chance he just worded his sentence utterly improperly but within the same sentence of talking about characters they've yet to announce such as Pac-Man...the implication was clear.

If Rayman is in the game he straight done flubbed due to speaking out of casuality. If he's not then at the very least he worded that sentence TERRIBLY.

Well that's what happens when you link a 17 minute video and something about an unreleased character pops up long before the information relevant to the thread title.

So long as i can break out of the crowd of nooby pikachu spammers or 1 move spammers who obviously don't click on that the move they're spamming won't work, then i'm happy.

Really good news looking forward to this game every time we get real info(not that miiverse stuff).

That's only been a thing for the past 2 years or so, and Rayman is not owned by Nintendo in any way.
Rabbids on the other hand....
Um... Pac-man, Megaman and Sonic are not owned by Nintendo in any way either...

Pac-man has appeared on nearly all consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U) in his latest game. Nintendo worked out a deal with Namco to put Pac-man in.

Sega currently has a three game contract with Nintendo, which started with Lost World. I THINK there is supposed to be one more exclusive Wii U game after Sonic Boom, but I cannot remember for sure. However, Generations which came out three years ago, was on all platforms. Nintendo worked out a deal with Sega to put Sonic in.

The most recent Megaman game was in 2010 with Megaman 10. This game was on Xbox, Playstation and Wii. There has not been a Megaman game since, but it he is definitely not a Nintendo character. The most recent appearance of Megaman appears to be a crossover with Streetfighter, released on PC only in japan. Nintendo worked out a deal with Capcom to put Megaman in.

Rayman has a super similar story to all these characters. He's appeared on Nintendo consoles a number of times, he's been on the N64, the Gamecube, the Wii and the Wii U. The most recent game was SUPPOSED to be a Wii U exclusive, but obviously Ubisoft changed their minds before release. This may have hurt Rayman's chances of being in Smash, I agree, but to say he doesn't belong because he isn't owned by Nintendo is... ridiculous. And to tell someone they don't know what they are talking about for calling you out is equally so.

tl;dr, Sonic, Megman and Pac-man are in no way Nintendo owned, and vary in how much they are apart of "Nintendo history". Rayman fits into this group just fine, about as much as Snake did.

The time to skip to was clearly posted.

No disrespect to Rayman, but that kid was lucky enough to even get mentioned in Smash. I'd say a trophy is about the extent of his deservance (<-that's a word).

I don't care how loved he is or how well his games have sold, he's not as popular, retro or classic as the one's that are already in. Point blank.

And I do like Rayman.

As for Sm4sh groups.... please oh please this is much needed. I already know a lot of legit people who are going to play. Smash online finally done right. I can't wait.
