NEW!! Retreating Pivot Grab Made Easy

All right, first, a little background;

My name is *(T.R.D.S.)(obviously), but you can call me whatever you want. A few things I've been called: Star/Starturds/Turds/TRDS/Lasrs. I'm a ROB main, but I second Marth and TL.

So, I had recently discovered(as in, I hadn't known about it) a retreating pivot bomb toss with TL, and lemme tell you, it looks pretty flashy. Like a retreating glidetoss, but less slide. So, I was trying to work out the input. I tried various pivot/dashdance/C-Stick combinations, but none of them were definitive.

So, today, I was in training messing around with it. I didn't have a bomb in hand, I was just trying to figure out the slide(I've now found out that if the timing of some sliding techs like JCIT or RPBT is slightly of, the bomb toss cancells the slide). So, I dash right, then hit C-Stick+Z left.
What?
I do it again, and again, and I can pull it off consistently.

Button Inputs
*assuming you are facing left*Dash right, then, riiiiiight before the frames where DA can kick in come into the movement, i.e, before the foxtrot frames end, hit C-Stick left+Z. The effect should be the same as BengalsRZ's method of RPG, but this is waaay easier.

Mechanics Theory
This is just my theory on the mechanics behind this. I'm guessing it shares the same properties as DASC, where an attack can easily be cancelled. A TL I've been talking to(UncleSam) has also told me he DASCed with F-Smash. This is key. I'm thinking that when you hit C-Stick left, two inputs go through: pivot, and attack. But, the mechanics behind dash attacks cancel out the pivot input, which is why you usually just DA. Hitting Z(grab) at the same time might allow pivot to go through, but cancells attack. This allows you to to pivot and grab, but keep your momentum from the foxtrot frames and transfer it to a standing grab.

Well, I hope this helps, and is allows RPG to be implemented into Marth's metagame more.

It's not that hard is it? I dunno, I'd rather that if I end up messing it up do a "not retreating grab" than a charged forward smash.

Sorry man, but this is known as a "QPG," (quick pivot grab) and has been known for a very long time.

This does not replicate the effects of a retreating pivot grab, because there is no initial dash, and therefore no way to approach with it. It's overall more useful then a retreating pivot grab though.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm pretty sure you're just talking about a QPG.

If you want to approach with pivot grab, just walk forward and dash back pivot grab. This whole 'retreating pivot grab' nonsense may be faster/flashier, but walking is safer since all your shield/dodge options are open at any time.

True fax.

Except with a dash you move further and quicker. It also makes it LOOK like you're committing to a real approach, when you're really just gonna move back with a grab. It's becoming quite useful for me.

I'm guessing you haven't tried using it much or even mastered it, so don't just automatically dismiss it's usefulness.
