New physics idea: Rebound Damage

This one's pretty easy. If you get hit hard into a wall (or ceiling, or maybe even floor), you take a little damage. I'd say about 1% for really low speeds and 10% for speeds such as getting Falcon Punched at 150%. You'd take no damage if you tech.

dont like the idea srry.
Although that would really make the game harder and you would need more skills to survive.

Its okay, but not 10 percent damge, I mean. It should be like, how Pichu hurts himself. That much damage, and have it varying on how hard you hit, so like 1 - 4 damge every time you hit hard.

Pointless, since if you dont walltech you're going to be either killed or close to it anyway in -most- scenarios.

I rarely , rarely miss a wall tech and it works out for me. Missing techs = you dead.

Not realy, but if this happens as long as Sakurai makes sure its a HARD hit that it gives you like, 1 to 2 damage. It would suck if you was Pinballing, lol.

But yeah. It's a good idea, I like it, just don't get all 10 damage per rebound and so on.

Also, you can just call me Sariku, don't gotta say my full name.

Eh... I'm kinda neutral on this. It'd be cool I guess.

Also, missed techs = dead only in pro play. There's plenty of levels below that where a missed tech isn't even a big deal. I thought Dylan would remember the 'noob' levels, considering how much he hates them.

Seems pretty cool, which also means fast fallers are most likely to get "*****" with this new physical addition to the game. Teching shouldn't be involved with this though, :)

Oi, oi, oi, for someone who can't tech like, me, this would surely be my bane. I'd be knocked around like a Tennis ball with 4 clones of Robert Fahey on the court.

Definately.
I'm surprised that doesn't already happens. I thought it did for quite a time without actually checking.
It would make teching more important and hiding in bungholes less viable.

Gonna take more shots at me eh?

Here's a little tip :

If you're playing someone, and you miss a tech, and you don't get punished. STOP PLAYING YOUR OPONNENT AND PLAY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.

Alternativly, if you aren't looking to play competitive smash and the same situation occurs, then whatever... you're just messing around.

But I don't see the point in not trying to get better at this game.. I mean its a great game, dont you WANT to improve? Dont you want to enter tournaments and prove your stuff? You cant improve vs someone that doesnt punish your mistakes.

So the rebound damage thing would just kind of annoy more newbies than it would please, and it just wouldnt happen to real smashers.

I can't tech. I can't link quadruple jumps. I can't wavedash. I rarely land aerial attacks. I have no clue what the advanced techs are even after reading through the term guide. Despite all this, I still wouldn't call myself a noob. Just not a pro-player. I've never fought a pro-player, either, only my friends.

I sort of just play it for fun. You're acting as if it's one of your muscles that needs constant strain in order to get better.

You are a noob, man. If you can't do that stuff lol, its like the definition of noob.

Dude, I'm still a n00b at smash and I play with some of the best in canada. If you're not on the power rankings, you are a noob. Thats how competitive gaming works.

Thats perfectly fine, Im not gonna tell you what to do and im glad you enjoy the game.

To me, thats a good way to put it. I smash everyday, and for 10+ hours per week average. You could call me a smash addict, but im not the only one ;)

Hell, I always thought I was the best until I saw the Smash community online... and then we got all this technical stuff. Meh.

(Words about how people should want to improve).

So the rebound damage thing would just kind of annoy more newbies than it would please, and it just wouldnt happen to real smashers.
I -think- we made friends in that last thread, so I won't be argumentative... but I wasn't to begin with.

Just pointing out that there's plenty of levels where missed techs don't mean much of anything, so saying its pointless only really applies to pro levels.

I try not to play on that level personally (it's hard in Idaho; there's not enough players to just shun everyone worse than you, since you'd run out quick), so the parts about how I should want to get better are inapplicable (assuming you meant me specifically, and it wasn't a general 'you').

Although your last point stands. I can't decide if the newbie friends I have would just be annoyed with it or not.

Great idea. I really like it, and I'm surprised it doesn't happen already.

Though, I'm sure they've already thought about it, even for Melee. I bet if they wanted to put it in, it would have already been in Melee.

Either way, that's a pretty cool idea. Teching = Very Yes.

I think that's how it starts off for everyone. i used to think I was the best. My bro/cousins used to play some dudes from skool and even though I was like 3-4 years younger, I was still 2nd best among our group. That was smash64.

Then 5-6 years later ( I started playing melee last year cuz I couldn't afford it for the last 5 years) I saw some vids on youtube and I was like "are they playing lightning melee?!!!"

I'm glad you like the game. I have nothing against people who just play it for fun and don't take it too seriously. Not everyone wants to join the competitive scene or dedicated that much time into a game.

There are many levels under what is consider pro and I have respect for that. Some people don't want to go through the hassle of learning all the adv techs and read all the theory on smashboards and just play.

Uh... you rarely get hit into walls anyways, and when you do, you're taking enough damage already, and if you miss the tech you ARE going to get punished.

We don't need rebound damage too.

You got that totally backwards, you should take damage when you tech.
Let's see if you want to tech anymore

Hey, I was kidding. I saw this "stuff for n00bs doesn't affect us and is useless" attitude and I thought about making it affect the pros.
