There is a built-in controller in the 3DS which works perfectly fine. I have no interest in using a Gamecube controller (which isn't even the best controller for Smash, as far as my tastes are concerned). The most I will do is buy the CPP, if it is compatible with Smash.
I doubt Smash 3DS is gonna be really competitive (at least not near the level of Smash Wii U)
You really have no idea what you are talking about.

You can get 'competitive' in Smash without a Gamecube controller... Particularly in the handheld version...

Do you have anymore prejudices not mentioned yet?
I never said that you couldn't get into it without a GC controller, I just said that some top level players of the game would probably prefer using a GC controller over the 3DS controls.

You know, not everyone has a Wii U. Smash 3DS will be just as competitive as the Wii U version.
Not really. Wireless multiplayer, streaming would be easier on Wii U (Streaming device wouldn't allow for the CPP, if it's supported.) and less expensive, graphics would look awful on a big screen, and Wii U Smash would be a lot faster to set up.

You people are weird. I'm surprised that majority of you seem really really against this.

They don't show any adapter, or it sticking out of the 3DS, I just see the controller wire, from what I can see it isn't very ugly.. I would love to use a GC control with the game! Then when I jump into the WiiU one it'll be easier. I never could get used to any of the wii controls, like the classic controller or simply wiimote, and the 3DS does not seem like a good shape to play Smash optimally.

Also I don't really bring my 3DS with me everywhere I go like I did when I was a kid, I'm going to be playing it at home anyway so I might as well use a controller.

Probz cause most of the users are kids, i cannot grasp how im gonna play this game outside the house. Only one condition comes to mind and that's if im on a long journey.

I won't be playing it at my part time job, i won't play it on the bus, i won't play it at collage, i won't play it while waiting for food a restaurant, i won't play it at a cafe shop like a loner. People talk about portable smash but really i guarantee y'all gonna play this at home anyway so having the big controller plugged into your 3DS shouldn't be a problem.

End of the day i agree with your post your living in a different world to them, in your daily routine you wouldn't think of busting out your 3DS outside when you could be doing something else.

OT: Its not a bad idea if your playing the 3DS version only, its not likely your gonna take the 3DS with you every day unless your still a child so i see no problem with having a controller adapter for it since more times than not you'll be playing at home.

The only use I see for this is for competitive play because to many people are used to them.
i actually forced myself to use a classic controller and im used to it know so the 3ds version should me no problem

Why can't people just let the controller die? I know the controller is amazing and all but, by the time Smash 5 comes it the gamecube will be 20 years old..

I would get the most use out of this in the two months (hopefully) between the 3DS and Wii U release, and I kinda doubt it will be widely available at that point. Still cool though.

Unless your still a child doe....(ignore my username.) Some people would love to play Smash on a Long Trip, or anywhere.

Yea, don't understand the 'this looks ugly' argument, as it's literally just a cord.

I'm going to regret asking this... But please tell me your reasoning behind this.
I don't really have a solid reason other than having my doubts on Nintendo making a successful jump into the next generation.

That's the main point of my assumption, as well as outside competition such as emulators, smart phones, new gen consoles ect. Nintendo is gonna have a hard time coping with just being a 'gaming company' that's my thoughts.

@Bold - don't get your hopes up, lets hope nintendo lives to announce the next smash.

Uh, wasn't there a report that Nintendo could continue running on a loss and the company wouldn't be bankrupt until around 2050?

Anyway, on-topic. I don't see the point of it being a handheld. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the gamecube controller, and I plan on using it no matter what console Smash game I'm playing (Smash 64 on Virtual Console. Melee of course. Brawl/Project M, and Smash 4 on the Wii U)

That said, I will be getting a grip for my 3DS so that it will still feel like I'm holding a controller of some kind for Smash 4 on the 3DS version. I do feel that if there's going to be a common complaint, is that holding the 3DS together with the strenuous finger movements required to play Smash, will make your hands quite uncomfortable after about an hour of play. After playing Mario Kart 7, my hands are having a few issues after a long time and all I'm doing there is holding down the A button and moving the joystick, while pressing L and R occasionally for Items and Drifting. Can you imagine how crazy it would be with the mashing of attacks?

To be fair, the DS and Wii U Classic controls (and the Super Nintendo controller, for that matter), are not well built for Smash Bros.

The SNES, and most games built off it, use a dual button control system. One button attacks, one jumps. One button for "OK", one for "Cancel". It works well. The other buttons then get used for tertiary implementation, such as opening menus.

Smash Bros. has three core controls. Jump, Attack, Special. The way the GameCube controller is built, you have easy access to all of these. Your thumb rests on Attack, you move it slightly right for Specials, slightly left for jumping.

On the button layout of the 3DS, you have to move your thumb UP to hit the third button. While it's not crippling, it is also not as intuitive or as fast of a motion. There will be some adjustment issues, and there very well could be a slight delay in the actual implementation of those controls.

This is one of the big reasons the GameCube controller is loved by the Smash Bros. competitive community. It almost feels like a controller designed for Smash Bros., to provide easy and intuitive access to all three main control buttons.

Wanting this control scheme for the 3DS version is understandable. I think this project is a bit ridiculous, but I can certainly understand the desire for it, and it goes far beyond "oh, we just want another Melee".
