Suidide: In regards to Ridley being too big. Look at his size in Melee’s strt-up. Not that big. And then look at Bowser in Mario Sunshine. He’s enormous!

Size doesn’t matter.

I seriously doubt he’s playable from the start. I think he’ll be hidden. Same with Ike. Would explain the “Warning! Challenger Approaching” message which, in the previous games, signified a hidden character coming to challenge the player.

In melee sakurai didn’t reveal unlockables until after the game was out.
Ike and this guy are playable from the start believe me. Y would sakurai reveal them be4 revealing our starting set of characters.

Maybe Charizard will be so strong that he is cheap, but have a very low stamina.

Man, I’ve been saying for months (or at least months ago) that playing as Bulbasaur would be awesome because of all his cool attacks, and him being always on all fours.

Well, I’ve basically gotten my wish with Ivysaur, and plus Squirtle and and Charizard to boot. I’ve always thought they should go with one of these classics. (albeit, I’d rather have gen. 1 or 2 of Charizard, and gen. 1 of Ivysaur, but at least I got Squirtle, and Ivysaur isn’t bad… actually I’m OK with Charizard too…)

Never played Poke’mon really, and only watched the anime a little, so it’s good that they didn’t just put in random unknown-outside-the-hardcore-fans characters.

Oh yeah, and Jigglypuff had better make it in. I don’t want to lose any of the orignal Smash cast. Ness might be replaced with Lucas, but I think we’ll probably see all 12 originals.

My friend said the same thing about alternate costumes being the different generations’ starters. It’d be awesome, but that would be 12 sets of character animations all used on one character… seems like it’d be a waste of the developers’ time.

Probably someone just mention this allready, i just cant read all the coment right now..

First: let me say that Sakurai shut our mouths with this post… lol

Second: If they want they can make it work for every character, and this proves it!

I reallyyyy dout that charizard will be able to fly, he can probably glide though, like peaches umbrella glide.

he must have some weakness, like the pokemon on their own aren’t that strong, compared to say picachu, or maybe just the stamina limit will be their weakness, which is pretty bad

someone can just tire your pokemon out until the stamina is gone and use another pokemon that would be easier to fight against.

Yeah I reckon a mix of vines and mouth for ivysaur holding things.

And charizard not flying? What, they’re just gonna pretend it doesn’t have that massive pair of wings? Nah. I reckon he’ll get the multiple jumps like kirby, but each mid-air jump only propels him upwards a small amount cus he’s a lot heavier. Think kirby when he’s metal. Plus he’ll be a massive target like Dastardly V says.

Zelda/Sheik showed that transforming doesn’t work so well because it’s so slow–the idea of racking up damage with Sheik and KOing with Zelda doesn’t work because you can’t go ftilt->transform->lightning kick–they’d be either too far away or they’d hit you on the lag. You can’t transform in the middle of a combo. The only way transforming would work is to have each character be able to combo at different percents or to have one specialize in combos, one in edgeguarding, and maybe one in recovery. And the forced transforming thing doesn’t sound too appealing…

Of course, I could be proven wrong.

yeah, i keep thinking bowser with wings, but i gottta think of a slimmer, more muscle bound version with bigger wings.

Their’s no way they could do different costumes with different pokemon. It would mean 12 completely different characters in 1, it’d just be confusing.
They’d have to be different cus think about it, would blaziken and infernape have the same weight and jumping style as charizard? the animations would all be completely different as well, as well as how big a target they are.
Some of the moves just wouldnt translate very well on everything (i imagine any up B of charizards would look wierd on typhlosion, not to mention on infernape and blaziken).
PLUS, the other generation starters just aren’t as iconic as the 1st set. So no, I don’t think so.

As for a female trainer, I thought that too. But then I realised the character is called “pokemon trainer”. What name is there left for the girl trainer? So again, I dont think so. As for Jesse and James, they didn’t call this guy Ash, so im guessing they dont want to follow the cartoon. And Team Rocket are much less a part of the games than Ash is even.

However, I think another trainer could well exist. Maybe a trainer called Team Rocket that looks like the grunts from the game? Or Team Galactic to get some of the new generation pokemon in?
