They are also not secret characters because:

At least, not because of the “WARNING: CHALLENGER APPROACHING” things above their updates. Why? Because that isn’t what the black bars say on the Japanese site at all. In fact, all they do is announced the character’s appearance. Ike’s says “IKE APPEARS” whereas Pokémon Trainer’s basically says “POKéMON TRAINER APPEARS.”

Cuteness should not be a large factor in liking a character. It’s all about play styles. Perhaps he doesn’t understand the floating wonder that is Peach. He may prefer faster characters like Fox.

Try convincing him that not all slow characters are necessarily bad. ;)
