Ness only starred in one game, the one in the NES Mother was named Ninten.
But I still agree. It makes no virtual sense to boot Ness for someone only one country has heard of. This might go down as the second mistake Sakurai's ever made (the first being the Samus/Zamus transformation, which I've ... sort of comes to terms with. Still not happy about it. I won't forget the death of Ness, though).
We better get something GOOD tomorrow. Playable Flint would almost, ALMOST make up for this blasphemy.
I think I might take Ness to my second most played in Melee this weekend to show my support.
Uh, nothing against Flint or anything, but your logic is a bit flawed. You complain about Ness being booted for someone only one country has heard of (unless you're a huge fan of the Mother series who follows the stuff on Starmen.net or a similar site), yet you want them to add in a character who is only more well-known because of a black-and-white appearance video? Oi vey.
But yeah, I'm still going with the "Lucas is Ness's Luigi," mostly because there are noticeable variations (not just improvements) to Lucas's known moveset, and because I'd like to think that Ness has gained enough of a following through Smash Brothers to be kept in and tweaked. And despite their noticeable similarities, they have totally different backgrounds and are therefore potentially separate characters, so long as Sakurai tries to make them separate, if he does put Ness back in.
