Yes I know nobody likes Ness but I decided to play him basically because no1 else does and for funzies. Pulled off some intermediate combos in this vid:

Great music from ministry of sound annual 2010!! So if you guys like my editing skills can you plz rate it 5 stars? I know I suck at ness but I did this while bored. Features most of the Australian ssb community. It was really hard work, especiallty the ness masking and chroma keying which took ages, plus gathering all the clips compressing was a horror. But worth it :D

Also the PK thunder glitch where if you give it about a 45 degree angle on a straight wall donward you will be pushed up which is wierd, I expolited this a few times. You guys think it was meant to be like that?

Feel free to add me on YouTube :)

Also thinking about making a video to advertise SSB64 kaillera online play in general, get some more recruits.

That really isn't a glitch. Also, I don't understand why you have so many moments of noncombos. It was pretty boring to watch to be honest.

Yeah sorry had to fill some time to fit the music and get it done for some guys in Aus. It really took many, many hours or hard capturing editing etc.etc.etc..

"Nobody likes Ness"? Ness is actually my main char on smash 64... I've recently got back into playing on the kaillera server, I play on the US galaxy64 server quite a bit. I watched your video, and there was only 1 weird PK thunder, the one on the DK stage, that was probably a glitch. Other than that, I haven't really seen any glitches with PK thunder, but there is one thing that happens often if you hit the ledge at just the right angle: On link's map (hyrule temple or whatever its called), it's most noticible on the left edge. When people are trying to edguard and vertically I'm still above the ledge as ness, I'll K thunder down and to the right. If you hit the very corner of the ledge going at that angle, sometimes it makes ness pop directly upwards quite a bit. It looks weird and doesn't happen very often, but I've done it a number of times because I play ness so often.
Ness rocks! And if you want to play me sometime don't worry, I don't grab spam with ness, some people say that every ness user spams grab. I use all of ness's attacks, including angled pk fires and pk thunders in my combos to add extra damage and sometimes pull of the double-hit with 1 pk thunder attack, you've probably seen it before.. when you just skim your opponent with the pk thunder ball, and its still alive, hit them again. Anyway, happy playing,
-Storm

Yep, nobody likes Ness. Read the forums much? "Ness is butt tier". On Desiree's server, nobody plays Ness. Anyways, sounds like you are a pro ness user.. :S And I'm from Australia so unless you have p2p and live on the West Coast of USA I won't be playing you.

Ah, I live real close to Chicago Kronos, which is like... right in the middle of the USA kinda so we probably can't play each other. But anyway, I think my ness on kaillera is actually better than on the N64 because I use a USB xbox360 controller for smash online, and the joysticks make the PK thunder really smooth.. could just be me though.

LOL @ the posts just saying "ness sucks". You are probably the people who have never tried Ness? Smash 64 is the most well-rounded based game as far as characters go, that I have ever played. Match a REALLY good player playing as the "worst character" in the game, and they'll STILL beat a "pretty good"player that is using the "best character". Basically, I'm saying that none of the characters in Smash 64 "suck". They are too well-rounded to say that. The game is 99% player ability. That's why there are still so many people playing it; that's what makes it a GREAT game.

Thanks for listening :lick:

I'm noob at Ness, effective djc is difficult with KB? I've tried playing iwht a controller similiar to ps2, but it doesn't feel right.

Seems like most people play with xBox360 controllers? Or is there a way to play with melee/64 controllers?

Those are some of the most experienced players. They already know everything you've just posted about and more
Just because you're experienced doesn't mean you're experienced with every character. Ness is a completely different style to most characters, but I find him alot harder and I'm sure many people do, and thats why they don't play him.

Yes its unfortunate if you're forced to do your upB recovery, most experienced players can easily exploit this but somepeople like Sima, Isai and many others can be amazing with him. His uair has great hitbox and rangeand his combos just sortof roll off the tongue.

Ness sucks. Nice way to assume we think he sucks just because you think we suck with him. Wanna make anymore ignorant assumptions?

Sima is using Japanese Ness which is a much higher tier Ness due to a stronger up air and a much better recovery.

Isai is good enough that he can disregard the tier list and he does it purposefully.

These 2 aren't good examples. Ness is good once he gets a hit. There isn't a character that isn't like that in this game outside of DK and possibly Samus (which is why DK and Samus are below Ness). There isn't a character in this game that has a problem edgeguarding so the tier list basically comes down to 2 things, recovery, and predictability/ease to set up combos.

Recovery: 1/0 Out of 10. Possibly the worst recovery or tied with Link. Unless your using the Japanese version or if the opponent does not know how to edgeguard properly, you should not recover with ness. Combine that with a slow 2nd jump as well and Ness is by far the easiest character to gimp near the stage and away.

Predictability: 6/10, Ok you have DJC's, ok you have a massively good up tilt...but where's the range? I think the up tilt is 1/3rd the range of kirby's for example. Ness can't combo with grabs which prevents him from mid tiers. He can't tap a a shield into a grab. Ness just doesn't have enough range to approach many characters. And as said before, as long as he gets hit by a reasonable combo, he should not recover.

There are very few characters in this game.
The S tier have a very good approach and have some overwhelming strength that prevents them from lower tiers (Pikachu's broken Up b and overall incredibly good priority/approach, Fox's Lasers and aerials, Kirby's up tilt and massive hitboxes make Kirby borderline Top Tier)

The A tier have some weakness but some great strength (Falcon loses to Jiggs, Kirby and Fox but has possibly the best approach of any character, Mario is just a good character but has nothing super exploitable)

The B tier suffer from a bad matchup and have something exploitable about them (Yoshi loses to Kirby, Pikachu, but has great combos, DK just is comboed too heavily but has a great grab range and good Giant punch combos, Jigglypuff is a glass cannon either having 60-40 matchups such as vs Falcon or 30-70 like vs DK, and Ness was listed before)

The C tier has something different that just prevents them from gaining any tier position (Luigi is way too floaty and has a bad approach, Link has a bad recovery{In my opinion Link is better than this...at least above Luigi}, and Samus just can't combo)

Sorry if this has been brought up before, beut is their a *** tier list? Or is the differences between (J) and (U) not enough for players to rise/fall in the tier list?

Ness is higher (probably lower high tier), Link is higher (mid tier I'd guess), everyone else is pretty much the same. Kirby and Fox may or may not swap - Fox loses D-Smash and Kirby gains F-Throw, but Fox benefits from less DI and has a better shine.

Jiggs might be a tad higher - despite weaker rest she has an easier time with less DI.

Cool, thanks. I prefer Kirby's (U) fthrow though, it's easier for star Ko's when you land on the top of hyrule for example.

DK's above ness imo, and according to this spiffy new tier list. Obviously you know more than me about this, but DK can pull some OK combos when he gets a hit, again, in my very humble opinion.
