Need some tips on edgeguarding

First off I will like to thank everybody who gave me some tips in my last thread. You were all very helpful and now I feel like I know what I'm doing when I plant C4.

Now I have two more problems, edgeguarding and recovering.

Lets start off with edgeguarding. I have heard that the Side B, the Nikita or what ever it is called, is a very good edgeguarding move. The problem is that it never works for me. I have heard that you have to predict on where your opponent will be, but whenever I do, they just use an air dodge and then I have to worry about them getting me. Also I have heard that Snakes Nair is a good move to edgeguard with, but how exactly do you use it effectively. Do you jump off the ledge and use it or do you wait until they are back on the stage.

Now for recovering. When ever I am hit in a way that forces me to recover from under the stage, I am usually hit back off the stage before I land on it or I am spiked. Does anybody have any tips for me when I have to recover from below the stage.

I will greatly appriciate any tips you guys can give me. Also if there are any helpful videos on Youtube, please post a link.

Nikita:
You need to have good timing and a lot of practice. Notice how it gains speed if you let it go in a straight line. If they're knocked off and at a steep angle high in the air, they obviously have to fall in a diagonal path towards the stage if they want to live. Slow down the missile a bit by turning in your desired direction, and then let it go in a straight path that will intersect with their falling path. Now, lets say they were knocked off at a more horizontal angle. Try firing a missile directly parallel to their height (ex: if they were knocked left, stay on stage and fire a missile straight left). Let it gain speed and you've got a chance to hit them since they have to get parallel with the stage to recover, be it via second and/or third jump.

Like I said this takes practiced timing and good prediction. Don't be afraid to take a risk or a rough prediction, since you've got to work quickly to land the missile before they recover. Drop the missile immediately if you miss your shot and get yourself out of a vulnerable position.

Nair:
You could jump off, it's but it's risky considering it's easier to recover in brawl, so if you miss they'll be ready to edgeguard you as you try to return. Nair also has a long duration and you could just end up killing yourself in the process. The safer method is just standing near the ledge and full hopping a nair as you see them get up from the ledge. With the right timing, you can catch them with at least one kick, all that matters is the last one that sends them flying off again.

Recovery from below stage:
Hm, if you're well below the stage and your opponent comes down to intercept you with a spike, you're probably a goner anyway. However, if you manage to make it with a little over half of snake's body parallel with the floor of the stage, air dodge out of your cypher. This will end up releasing your cypher, and as it flies up (if you're going diagonally it will fly diagonally), it cancels out any incoming attack of your opponent. You can avoid so many spikes this way, including the infamous dairs of Rob/T.Link/Falco/Diddy/Wolf, if you time it right.

Furthermore, the momentum of the cypher will propel you that last bit needed to land JUST barely on stage or the ledge. You can do this going straight up, but it's safer if you're flying at an angle since they'll have to wait for you to get close to the edge before intercepting, and by then you should be close or parallel to the stage. Practice this technique, it's quite useful.

I usually do Bair when edgeguarding. But meh, I really like off stage battles, so it might not be suitable for your taste.

You may also try Fair, but dont rely on it too much.

As for recovering, if you can consistently get past Pikachu, you're good.

Pikachu's ledgeguarding options are teh **** against the Cypher.

-Do Bairs off the stage
-Chase them with Nikita
-Fair spike next to the ledge
-Plant C4 and land mines for people coming from above
-Usmash next to the ledge for people coming from below

As for the whole Nikita thing, predict when your opponent will air dodge and drop the missile straight on them with the shield button.

I have many edge guard techniques but it seems that most of them have been mentioned. So I'm just gonna add some (which can all be mixed).

- you can drop a grenade by the edge, roll back and drop a second. Watch what your opponent does and hit him with an aerial, u.smash, or u.tilt if he jumps.

- from a safe distance, "cook" a grenade then throw at your recovering opponent. Use grenade stripping to make it drop with more accuracy.

- drop a grenade, catch it, then edgehog. The invincibility frames you get from grabbing the edge protect you from the explosion. I call it explosive edge hog, hahaha.

- drop a grenade by the edge, catch it, then throw it down. Roll back and drop another. Rinse and repeat while mixing it with tilts and u.smashes in between.

Did I mention the fact that I love grenades??
