At first my Yoshi was doing good then it kinda dropped but those were like bad days and all then he got even better after that but then suddenly he dropped down quite dramatically but then poltergust helped that out.

Now, he has dropped even more than he did before. I have been reading the guides, looked at competitive stuff and all and I keep trying to do it but I don't seem to progress. I really need help with my Yoshi now. Moaning about it aint gonna help me so I am hoping for you guys to help me out on this. I don't wanna drop him and be a main for a different character. I wanna help out the Yoshi mains but I am really struggling.

Please help me out on this.

ill leave my FC here: 1547 6639 0058

It's a cycle I experienced too, i had thought of dropping him so I picked up Fox, and then went back to Yoshi and it made him like 10x better, now he's dropped off again. (grounded from my wii currently, sucks being 15) So I before was playing different chars. But I'll come back to Yoshi once again.

Sometime you just have to take breaks from a a char.

Just practice more frequently and work on your technical skill without playing someone else. Never let a loss discourage you, it should be your motivation.

That will burn him out. Practice is good, BUT if he's not getting any better from the practice. It only allows bad habits to be formed and the practice only making your skill decrease more. Practice should be short, and to the point. Work on what is essential at that time and don't burn yourself out on that one thing. Never try to fix something that doesn't need to be fixed, if you're doing it right don't try to find another way to it, because this will create problems in stressful matches when your instinct is now between two methods. You may think I'm saying don't practice but that's not true. I'm saying know what you need to work on, get it done, and be done with it. If something else is faltering at the same time, only work on each specific thing. Bouncing back and forth only takes makes your mind flip between the two. Therefore you don't get the needed done, and you are still having to practice it again later. Practice makes perfect, but repetition makes it instinct.

After practice work on repetition. That's how I learned to DR, and DT so quickly. That's how I learn to do all my techs.

Just thought I'd let you on on my little secret there.

Just another day.
...You're not implying that I somehow made you worse, right? =(
If that was the case, then somehow I would've made him bad too, and I doubt that. I told him to post here for advice cause I'm not available to help him out as I used to (when I had wifi...). I'm hoping that you'll find some things and problems that other people will see better than me (as I'm not a good teacher), and can correct him better and faster than me.

No you made my Yoshi much better than it was before. But now it has just dropped dramatically. Big helped me out with the basics and that what got me in the semi finals of the gamestation tourney the day after I got brawl. I beat and impressed european importers :p

Chaco, by frequently I mean more consistently. If you don't practice a couple of times a week at least, you won't get much better. It doesn't even have to be for a long time, maybe even just 30 minutes, but it needs to start feeling natural. I understand the burning out thing if you practice for hours a day, that is just too much.

Short daily practice sessions are best, that way Yoshi's tech and metagame become more natural.

Also, don't ever let your emotions get the best of you mid match. If you start losing, don't get angry at yourself, you'll lose focus. Just concentrate on your opponent and stay calm. Don't complain and don't ever think it's Yoshi's fault you are losing. Just have a good time :)

Thats kinds exactly what I said minus the first paragraph. But my main message was unneeded practice can mess you up, you'll form bad habits. That's what I meant by be to the point. In other words short sessions, not grueling long ones.

I go through the same thing, I actually picked up Luigi, Zelda and Link during one of my Yoshi downtimes. You'll come back to yoshi. I do not practice much by myself at all, I much rather play vs someone and try to apply what im trying to practice in a match situation and see how it works vs various opponents. Another fun thing to try is get some friends to play as Yoshi who normally dont. they will try to mimic things they do with their various characters and have different insights about the game, I've found out some neat strats by doing this.
