the heat will be 'fine'

the NBA regular season is pretty much a joke anyway; more than half the teams make the playoffs

**** MD/VA. I have no region. no really...
Lakers lost to Barcelona:). still the favorites though. Obviously every team is super rusty right now(except Orlando. They look scary as ****). I'm looking and Thunder or Lakers to take the WC or Celtics, Orlando, or Heat to the EC. If heats chemistry improves dramatically they may take it. Some of these teams players have played with each other for years. I don't think they(heat) can emulate that chemistry in one season so I doubt they can take it all this season. In the future though they probably will

las vegas, does not agree w/you. they aren't the only ones but they are the best handicappers in the world (in before appeal to authority). going against vegas doesn't necessarily make you wrong, but when you are making predictions that contrast strongly w/theirs, like you are wrt the heat, it is highly likely that you are wrong

also, you are talking like the playoffs start tomorrow-- there are like 7 months.

anyway blah blah chemistry. lacking chemistry they played like crap and still came back from a 20 pt deficit and were down 3 w/~ 1 min left to play. nothing short of being uber results oriented to say that they have "an outside shot." wade and bosh didn't shoot like 7/27 solely b/c they lack chemistry or b/c of good d. variance exists, people play poorly sometimes, not to mention the absence of miller.

every team has issues, but you only note the heat's. the celtics' age/injury situation is as big an issue as the heat's chemistry. the fact that the magic are nearly a one man team relative to other contendors, and that dwight howard's offense can be erratic, is as big a problem as any the heat have. kobe coming off knee surgery and getting older + bynum injury are issues for the lakers

edit: fwiw, i'm not arguing that the heat don't have wrinkles to iron out offensively. just that it's bizarre to say they have an outside shot

odds and % chance to win nba title from bodog

heat: 11/4 ~36%
lakers: 5/2 ~29%
celtics: 15/2 ~12%
thunder: 12/1 ~8%
magic: 13/1 ~7%

odds and % to win eastern conference

heat: 20/27 ~57%
celtics: 7/2 ~22%
magic: 9/2 ~18%

these lines include juice so the heat/lakers are a little closer to the celtics/magic than the #'s say but these two are still head and shoulders above the rest. to argue that the heat shouldn't be favored over the lakers is one thing, to say that they are fringe contenders has little basis. celtics did something similar recently and did so with worse players

lakers' chemistry was certainly on display today. prob gave up at least 15 wide open 3's on blown rotations

congrats pocky!
sorry phil!
