Let me put it this way.
One thing that breaks this is the date.

See, Sakurai generally waits a good few years before making the next Smash game.
This is next year, which means two things.
1. This is a port (preferably to arcades).
2. They've been developing "Smash 6" during Smash 4.
Though, I highly doubt Sakurai is making them build three different games at the same time.

Another thing is evidence.
Sure, they say it happened. But it's not like anyone else has said it.

As much as I like the idea of a new Smash, there's just too much against it.

Can't make any sense of this. I think perhaps an updated version, or something entirely new.

Not gonna hold my breath on this though. Might even call it a fake report thing until it might resurface again.

I hope for Namco X Nintendo if it is true tho.

A Nintendo rep declined to comment (nothing out of the usual as Nintendo are known to never comment on rumors or leaks regardless if true or not).

In my opinion, I'll start worrying about this once the Super Smash Bros. Direct concludes. There's a possibility of getting the answer there.

Could be a very delayed Apirl Fools joke, because I doubt that Sakurai would make a sixth game straight after 4 and 5.

I wrote this idea in the rumour and leaks thread, so I'll repeat it here:

What if they are doing a Melee remake? Considering how much coverage, hype and momentum that game recently got again, even after 13 years. Releasing a meleeHD remake/update with:
New HD-graphics. Remastered soundtrack. Some re-balancing. Improved training mode (never understood why you, for example, couldn't use the c-stick in melee training mode). Online play, matchmaking & rankings. Some glitches fixed (like battle field ledges). Upgraded AI for cpu's. One version that is the exact same in every region. Save replay-function (with a "share on miiverse"-feature, ofcourse). Balance patches and possibly future dlc content (characters, stages and possibly skins I guess).

Releasing that for the WiiU could probably net Nintendo a nice profit. Melee still pulls big viewer numbers at events and why wouldn't Nintendo want that to be and evoleve on the WiiU instead? Free commercial for the console and the game itself would probably generate alot of sales too. I mean, Sakurai is probably done with Smash after smashU & 3DS (atleast for a good while). I'd see Namco be willing to step in too remake/update and balance melee. Since one of their higher ups (tekken leader iirc) talked so fondly about it and how he discovered it's amazing competetive sides + all the coverage it got last months/year. I think its a lucrative project to take on for developers. I mean, Melee is still so active even though it hasn't received one balance change in all its years and it doesnt even have online play. Melee had more than 100 000 viewers in the evo(?)-finals last year, I think it would be better commercial for Nintendo if they played a WiiU game while all those people where watching. Wind Waker took Nintendo about 6 months to remake, so it's not that huge of a project either. Starting now or when Smash4 is done and releasing 2015 should be more than possible for a big development team.

Lastly, This is absolutely not something I consider likely. But it is possibility if the job-add was in fact real and not a misstake. In any case, if the add was real and not just a mistake, this seems to be something Nintendo want's to remain secret until they reveal it. Most likely it could just be plans to develop DLC-content. It is atleast very very very unlikely that it is a "real" smash 6 (aka a completly new itteration of the series) thats going to release 2015. One year after Smash4 WiiU & 3DS.

This is a rumored "Smash Bros. 6" topic. Take Melee/PM talk elsewhere.

Anywho, I don't really think the Smash 6 is anything in reality. Could be simply a mistake.

Melee remake ain't happening.
I used to be 100% sure about this too. But because melee has gotten so much coverage from esport sites, gaming communitys and such I now only feel 95% sure it's not happening ^^

Melee got large viewer numbers (over 100 000 for finals) just last year and still has a big following (considering it is 13 years old, has no online functions and haven't recieved a single change during it's whole life). If Nintendo ever realised the future that might be for competetive gaming, they could probably turn a remake into a cash cow. Maybe not for this generation nor for a good while, but someday not to far into the future (melee is strong and has a very passionate community, but it can't live forever. A remake should come from and gain hype & momentum from the passion that still excist around Melee). 15 years is along time already. If it came as remake next year already, it would still be new to alot of gamers.

But still as said; highly, highly, highly (+100 more "highly") unlikely that this is whats in works and "leaked" from the job-add.

Don't think Nintendo cares at all on how much coverage or viewer numbers it got. And Nintendo has been well known to decline doing a "cash cow" (Like smart phone gaming, any petitions and fan campaigns, region-free, etc.) Not to mention since Nintendo has $10 billion in their bank account I can't see them wanting more money badly. Plus, last time I checked, Melee wasn't the 6th Smash game.

Maybe Nintendo is retiring the Wii U and trying to rush out a new, more powerful console, with "Smash 6" as a launch title.

Or maybe Nintendo is leaving the home console market and Smash 6 will be an updated port for Xbox One and PS4.

Haha.

I wonder if it may be a typo and they actually meant Soul Calibur 6 lol

Nintendo will not put their IP's on other consoles if they go down (they've said this many times before) and they are far from being done.

If Nintendo ever went down and put there games on another console, it would be game over for the opposing console

Perhaps one of the versions will be held back (most likely the 3DS one) to prioritize the second version (Wii U), which would push back the 3DS one to next year while the Wii U version is still released this year. Then as the 3DS version comes it will be expanded and updated so they'll release a new Wii U one?

That would be really weird to be honest. Hopefully Smash 4 isn't just being pushed back till next year. Mario Kart 8 will definitely help the Wii U but I don't think Nintendo can afford waiting until next year to release Smash for the Wii U.

Yeah, I'm hoping updates and expansions please. I don't think I'm up for speculating an entirely new game, especially since the previous ones aren't even out yet.

Am interested to know what this is though.

Not sure what this means... it could be a DLC or expansion pack, but Nintendo hates those.

It's not anything to worry about.. so why am I worried??? :urg:

They seemed pretty big on them for Awakening. I can't imagine them missing the chance to add a ton of stuff to this game that will likely last for many years. It's the first time they actually can do updates/patches/etc. for Smash, so I hope they don't miss the chance.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Sorry. XD
Now that you say that, that seems more likely.

The sad part is... what if this really is about Smash4 and they're delaying the game until 2015?

I just couldn't.

There's a Smash Bros Facebook? How... ?

Anyways, thanks for putting my fears to rest, hopefully the game comes out sooner rather than later. :p

While that'd be highly unfortunate, it could be worse. I'd much rather wait until 2015 for these games than buy them this year, but then get news of a Capcom-style "Ultimate Edition", or something to that effect, being released later.

They're both awful to think about, but I'd find it much easier to swallow my patience even further than to be swindled out of a complete game.

This smells like bad news to me. It really does. Either we're getting a whole new Smash at the end of the year or something is getting delayed. And all ahead of the direct tomorrow? Mmmhmm... I don't like how this feels. But we'll see after tomorrow if this is something happening or did that site just mess up.

If Smash is delayed tomorrow then we definitely know what it was referring to. : /
