First of all I do apologize for this thread this is not a thread that most will support and will come at me with insults, Steve got confirmed so grats to Microsoft but steve leaves a Problem sadly the majority of fans are people born after the year 2000 not before 1990, there many characters out there that are more awesome and have a solid fan base, Now that steve is in the possibility of seeing meme characters have increased....

this video is to show a numerous characters if perhaps some know or have not know then you can see the diffrence, my point is this would you preffer characters that appear on this video or you would preffer this?

Sadly for the exmple of Jonesy this character is a Mainstream one and for me is a insult to the characters that appear before this, Games like Apex, League, And Fortnite have taken the Mainstream spot, since Nintendo have all the characters chosen at this point then nothing to do but wait, again this is not a rant thread i want to show you what a culture is from another.

I choose proper grammar.

Anyways, I'd argue that there's still a place for characters like Jonesy in Smash even if he doesn't quite have the same legacy behind him like a bunch of those other choices. Just because you don't particularly care about the character doesn't mean they're a complete waste of a slot or robbed a more "deserving" character of their spot. Games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and League have their crowd and shouldn't be exempt from representation just because they're "too mainstream".

thanks for the Comment, like i said Nintendo calling the shots but wish to ask you would you be dissapointed a character from a let's say a underrated series you love so much did not get in and that this one from a mainstream one, mostly filled with people like ragers, toxics and pretty much that game is know to be cringe, how would you feel?

That's is something i feel to be honest and that's one of the main problems with crossover games, i would also like to ask since this might be the last Smash game and the very last DLC should Nintendo take over the DLC like adding a season 3?

i know im asking much but is kinda not fair my honest opinion, we all want our characters in from no matter what series but when you get this feeling of being robbed by something that appeared not long ago is what hits me.

I'd be pretty disappointed if my favorites were passed up in favor of more recent mainstream choices, yeah, but I'd also understand the reasoning behind their inclusion and how they'd appeal to a wider audience.

At the end of the day, Nintendo, like every other company in the world, are looking for ways to make the most money and they don't owe us any particular character.

Now In the upcoming days mostly on reddit you will start seeing people spamming fortnite on the official smash community, the effect Steve has is officially a nightmare, once again I want to express that the main problem with crossovers is the community's wishes and for a unwanted character nobody was expecting feels not good, like not good.

Even though 4 spots remains now.we.meed.to stand by and hope is not characters like jonesy, please nintendo make right choices.

There's no evidence that Steve being in Smash will lead to more characters with wider audiences. Remember, this is the same man that, one pass ago, added Joker (very new, amazing RPG that he loved), Hero and Terry (only super popular in certain regions of the world), Banjo-Kazooie (highly requested character with a complicated relationship with Nintendo), and Byleth (an eighth Fire Emblem character when many people were fed up with the series' representation in Smash). And three months before yesterday we got Min Min, a character that comes from a mediocre three year old fighting game. It's pretty clear there's no correlation between Steve and more mainstream characters. If anything, Steve deserves to be in just as much as anyone else in this game-he's an icon of gaming, like it or not. Could Jonesy be added at some point? Yeah, but that doesn't mean he will. Sakurai's made it clear with Byleth or even Pirhana Plant that he won't put a character in Smash for popularity alone.
Now it's entirely possible Nintendo will want to capitalize on Steve's popularity (depending on how well his DLC does, which is probably VERY WELL), and ask Sakurai to add more characters like him. But honestly, who else other than Jonesy should you be worried about? Tracer or some other OW character, as popular as it is, Overwatch is also a very fun game that has rich stories and dedicated fans who fall in love with the diverse cast of characters. If you ask me, just sounds like any other franchise worth a Smash Bro. If Jonesy got in I wouldn't mind it very much because I know so many people would be ecstatic to see him, especially the younger crowd. From what I can tell Fortnite has a rich history of countless events that are seamlessly intertwined and lead one into the next, so the players are never bored. It also has fun gameplay with a lot to learn, but anyone can pick up and play. I don't see a reason to be upset about it, really. Would I rather have Madeline, or Eggman, or Dead Cells, or Phoenix Wright? Sure. But don't say something's bad for the sake of popularity-I wrote off Frozen (the movie) for years because of that, and I regret it, because looking back it's a great movie.
For now I wouldn't worry too much, the other fighters have already been selected, so if Sakurai's co-workers wanted to capitalize on Steve's success, well they have to wait for another game. And if Jonesy does get in, remember, this game already has 82 characters, so to complain about one of them in terms of their popularity is kinda pointless. Fine to feel upset about them getting in, but at the end of the day, Smash is already huge and the more the merrier. This is a crossover of gaming icons, and given Fortnite's popularity, I'd say they deserve a spot solely for that, even if it's not who I'd choose. I'll admit, I had a lot of fun when Fortnite hit its stride, and I even occasionally return from time to time when I have nothing else to play.

This mindset is laughably bad and extremely flawed.

Basically what you’re saying is that Smash will spiral into meme-filled chaos because of Steve. That isn’t true and your points are ridiculous.

Minecraft isn’t just extremely popular, it’s extremely influential. It introduced millions of people to videogames, and even game development. It’s even being used to promote creativity in certain schools. The game is also very fun, and a cultural phenomenon. There are countless indie games, and even some more mainstream games that were influenced by Minecraft.
Who gives a **** that it was made in the 21st century?

You’re allowed to be disappointed, I personally am not, but it’s ok if you are.
What’s not okay is denying the influence of a game, because it’s not old enough
This games been around 11 years, that’s actually pretty old when it comes to Smash! And dismissing everything it did as “just a meme” is not only an insult to your own dignity, its an insult to the games industry

Besides, games like Fortnite or Rocket League haven’t been around as long as Minecraft, and haven’t influenced as many games as them. There’s about an 8 year difference between the release dates of Minecraft and Fortnite. That’s the same amount of years between, for example, the first Sonic game in 1991, and Sonic Adventure! It’s a long time!

And then there’s this idea that the rest of Smash will be filled up by “meme characters.” Bull****.
The fighters of the first pass were all over the place, from different genres and time periods. We have no reason to believe the next pass is different, heck we’ve already seen variety in the second pass. Have you forgotten about Min Min?

No dude i have not forgotten min min, i see smash not as a game but as a tool to revive dead games, its the main reason i'm salty, this game can help revive a series, and fortnite is the community behind it that they where celebrating not because of steve in it but because it send them a message, anyways this is my opinion no need to get salty or anything but nintendo is ignoring awesome characters for the meme ones or should i say it this way the spotlight are games that are making money and always in the front.

Fortnite having made a collab with MARVEL AND DC is more than enough to wake a huge fanbase and this is what worries me the most, nintendo yes there the ones that decide but there looking for what series matters and those are sadly the ones everyone is playing the most and fortnite is one of them.

i'm only a gamer that was born in a great time and having to see opportunities taken away by something new that came out is yes the reason im salty and i apologize for that again and my behavior but yeah is not fair.

Yes. Because Mario, Kirby, Sonic, Zelda, Xenoblade, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, etc. are all dead games, amirite?
No. Super Smash Bros is a party fighting crossover videogame for the Nintendo Switch. At it's core that's what it is. And a clash of gaming icons, so yeah, I'd argue characters from more recent and very popular games do (and should) have a decent shot at getting in.
