My only gripe with the direct

The announcer gets really annoying after awhile. I couldn't stand it. When there is extra emphasis on sentences that don't need extra emphasis like. "It has a microphone!!!" Yeah the dude has a good voice and does a good job at what he does but I would prefer somebody just explaining things normally.

Other than that. Hype!!!

Dude, that was freaking hilarious, it was so ridiculous and over the top that I couldn't help but laugh along the whole way through.

"BOY, IS IT SWEET TO LINE THEM UP LIKE THIS!"

"HIGH DEFINITION!!"

"SIMPLE ENOUGH, RIGHT?!"

"On the gamepad there's a MICROPHONE!!!"

Dude pretty much made the thing for me.

It was pretty funny. I was watching it right before my nightclass in a hallway and had to keep altering the volume because of the random cresecendos bahaha

It's probably because you have a different sense of humor. He was only doing that to be funny, rather than because he doesn't know how to speak properly.

I thought it was funny, especially with the emphasis on random things (MICROPHONE!!!). I hope there's an easter egg in the game somewhere where he says funny things. In Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, there was an easter egg in the options menu where the announcer would say happy phrases if you turned the announcer volume up ("Congratulations! You just turned up the awesome!") and bad phrases if you turned it down ("Are you kidding me? This is my only job!"). Something like that would fit this announcer well.

I thought it was obvious that he was trying to make every little detail sound over the top with his "announcer" voice, and personally I loved every minute of it because of how cheesy and ironic it was.

Fair enough though if you did understand it was meant to be that way and were still annoyed by it. Personally I just like ironic humor like that.

That all being said, I don't really think this needed it's own thread...

My only gripe was not being able to hear this guy sell this game like a champ for 5 more minutes! 5 MORE MINUTES! (announcer voice)

ISN'T THAT EXCITING!?

His voice added a nice touch to the direct, exciting and hilarious

Don't know if anyone here is old enough, but im 99% sure that was the same guy as the narrator for the Space Quest games by Sierra.

You knows he's only like 22 or 23, right?

I can see why not everyone dug it, but the announcer voice just made the direct way more interesting for me, even when they revealed stuff we already knew or wasn't as exciting. I could listen to that voice read the ingredients off a cereal box and it'd still entertain me.

The announcer wasn't so great, but the alternative would be Iwata, with his engrish. It's good that Nintendo is having native speakers for each region.

PYROSPHERE (epic ridley entrance)----------is a stage inspired by the Metroid franchise...

While I never connected the dots, the Announcer is the Direct reminded me of this English teacher I know hear in Japan who teaches English just likes this. Even with an emphasis on the worlds.

"What FRUITS do you LIKE?

How are YOU TODAY?

Maybe it's him....though this guy I mentioned above is in his later 30's.

How could you NOT like the LARGE HAM of the narrator?

Seriously, it was CLASSIC.

I didn't use to like the announcer that much until this direct popped up him in full force. Now I think he's my most fave announcer after the Melee. The guy is such a large ham and knows it but still does it to have us with such big smile on face.

Besides, isn't Smash mostly about hardcore stuff that looks silly all the same?

Best part was:

"Consider them like a trial version, and if you like them... YOU CAN BUY THEM IN THE ESHOP!!!!!!!!!"

I really liked the announcer. It reminded me of that Spongebob episode with the training video.

I much preferred him to, say, Sakurai's previous translators.

Yeah, although Sakurai personally narrating the Ridley bit would be hilarious

nah the announcer is new in the scene. I cannot recall his name, but he is fairly young.
Xander Mobus. He's 22, so he's still new into voice acting. This was his first major role.

He also happens to be a fan of the series and has played the original game.

Anyway, his performance in the Direct was epic. Hamming it up, making mundane things awesome.

He must pretty good because I thought he was 50 years old by the voice until I found out what his actual age is.

OP smells bad. We'll never get a Direct like that again. It was perfect.
