I think Rainbow Dash as an aerial cross-up based character would be very fitting.

Nightmare Moon would make an incredible Zone-based character since she can just send her mystic hair to attack people LOL

Otherwise I don't have any good ideas.

oh right, the fighting game.
the ideas are dandy and all but we're really going to have to start off by getting sprites and dumping them in mugen, or get the characters in some other engine of sorts because that really is the hard part.
