****, as it turns out, the budget of Michigan is failing. Government workers are being laid off, only 1000 policemen are expected to be on duty, and schools are closing. Yippee. The article says that my school system will be running fine for a month or so, but schools in Lansing are just going to shut down soon, incidentally.

On the negative side, food inspection will be nonexistent. I always did enjoy eating meat that was lying a pile of **** for days.

Thoughts?

But that is pretty lame. Your school will stay open for a month and then close., or will you be moving into a different school, or what? Also, that food inspection worries me. I have a bit of a phobia on what food is, how its prepared, etc.

Either way, I'm sorry to hear this. I hope it gets better up there.

EDIT: You aren't alone. France seems bankrupt also... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/09/24/wfra124.xml

(Link fixed now, thanks)

Let's just hope I don't have to go to a different school, lol. None of our lawmakers want to raise taxes, even though it would benefit the economy.

Doesn't the federal government step in in situations like this? I mean, if you were to theoretically have a good government? I can't see a situation like that getting better on its own.

We're already in a large debt to the federal government. The solution is there (raising taxes for fundings), but not one politition (sp) wants to be blamed for that. I'll check tomorrow's paper.

UPDATE: http://www.lsj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070930/NEWS01/709300712

"I am a State of MI employee, and proud of it. I *EARNED* my job as a supervisor and I supervise the greatest group of individuals I have ever known. They work hard every day, with limited staffing, so that the citizens of our great State get the service they deserve. We never got back our so-called 1-in-4 employees after the last early out, and have had to do much more, with less.

We are a GREAT TEAM and proud to serve, and this is the thanks you give us. Sad, very sad!" ~comment

Your government > my state's government.

Trust me, no matter WHAT happens, you still don't have to live with the backwards laws, restrictions, ordinances and just all around horrible education of Louisiana. Like the fact that you can enter a bar at 18, but have to be 21 to drink. A lot of bars got shut down or close to it for serving minors a few years back. All bars do it, but most are smart enough to bribe the police.

Ah, my cousins got today off school because of this. It would have been cool for them with Halo 3 just released if it hadn't been so lame at the same time.

As awesome as not having to go school is, not having a good education system sucks.

Mine is pretty ********, we have to wear uniforms, and it's hot everyday [3 cheers for wet sticky uniforms!] and most classrooms don't have fans or AC and the lab equipment is probably as old as the school itself.

It's sad that governments in this day and age can't get their act together.
