Link to original post: My crazy Sunday, literally AND figuratively.
Yesterday, two of my aunts, my cousin, and her nine-year-old daughter showed up at my house to visit. What's special about this visit is that it's the first time I've seen one of my aunts since she was released from the hospital after being treated for schizophrenia. The visit seemed to be going fairly normally, until she asked my other aunt (her twin):
"Why are you so jealous of me?"
After that, it just went into a downward spiral. She started ranting about family issues that were over a year old. When we tried to calm her down, she flipped out. She started screaming, then hit the kitchen counter and the walls multiple times. I grabbed my nine-year-old cousin and rushed her upstairs before she was traumatized. Coming back downstairs, I saw her storm out the door and out onto the road. In the rain. She continued to stomp her way up the street, and we all grew concerned for her safety. We called 9-1-1, and my cousin drove up the road and brought her back to the house.
Two police cars and an ambulance were parked outside for thirty minutes, but my aunt somehow managed to weasel her way out of being taken away by acting completely normal, as if she hadn't done anything. They left, and as soon as they were out the door, she said: "I really need to go home and relax."
We drove her home, though it wasn't without its share of craziness. She spouted out rants about starving children, politics, and eventually came to the conclusion that "she was put onto this Earth to help save this country." I just hope she doesn't try to run for Ted Kennedy's vacant senate seat.
