Is the hype for this movie a meme or something...?
Part of it is memes, part of it is that it's actually got some pretty well-respected people working on it, so there's that feeling of "oh **** could this actually be good?" going on. Also it's a fun trailer
Partly but Greta Gerwig is also a genuinely talented director and screen writer. They seem to be genuinely nailing it.
The teaser got a genuine laugh out of me, so it's possible it'll actually be at least decent.
I get live action Scooby-Doo movie vibes (i.e. it's accessible to kids but tries to entertain adults; the trailer parodies/pays homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey, of all things, ahaha), except it's Barbie, which is extra hype because she has an even bigger multigenerational appeal; if you didn't play with them growing up, chances are you know someone who did. I've watched and enjoyed most of the animated movies, and this looks like a fun time, too, but in a more cheeky way, and unlike those movies, this one actually has marketing, a budget, an award-winning director, writers and producers, and an all-star cast. I just hope it has original songs that are catchy like the animated movies. With regards to it being a meme or not, I think this quote is relevant:
They don't normally go this hard for something like Barbie (even though they should), and that's why it seems like a meme. That and, well, it's super campy. I think most folks are laughing with it, than at it, if that makes sense. It has a certain charm to it
That's a part of it but Barbie is actually a pop culture icon with a huge fanbase so it's no wonder an exciting trailer made so much noise.

I'll be honest I still would like to see more legacy CN characters before we triple dip in AT and SU but Marceline is pretty cool
That's the other big thing. Legitimately, I don't think we've gotten a completely unleaked character reveal since Garnet, who was shown off in the game's own reveal. The idea that they'd prioritize someone who hasn't been leaked now just seems...well, made up lol.
I do agree with this, I want to see more older CN shows make it in, but Marceline has been high on my list for a while and the devs clearly have a lot of love for Adventure Time so I can't complain if it happens.
I mean it's possible they e decided to hold off on them until next Halloween season for thematic purposes
