MultiVersus General Discussion

I have to admit, Multiversus hasn’t really motivated me to spend money on it, despite how much I’ve played it.

I get plenty of nice skins for free, and things I really want enough to pay money for are uncommon enough that I can save up Gleamium for them. I currently have over 2.6k free Gleamium, which is enough to get Wedding Garnet (although I might wait in case it goes on sale) and the next battlepass. I was thinking about getting Unicorndog, but then they revealed it’s in the pass, so there’s no need to spend any real money on it.

IMO part of the issue for me personally (not necessarily for other people) is just that I like a bit of personal customization and Multiversus skins have none, you just buy the skin and that’s how it looks. There’s a reason I hoard skins in Fall Guys so much (every full skin there has a top and bottom half that can be mixed with any other skin, so the possibilities are endless!)

That being said, Suicide Squad getting an offline version after its final content update does give me hope that they'll do the same for Multiversus. So that's at least somewhat comforting.
I didn't know the SS game had an offline mode update. That's really cool! I hope they do the same with MV

Honestly the game could just stumble along if WB wasn't an unreasonable AF company. I've seen projects just continue and do fine. That's the problem, doing "ok" it's not enough for triple A companies.

I still remain hopeful, but we will have to see
I'm gonna try to remain hopeful too. If Cyberpunk 2077, No Man's Sky and Sea of Thieves can turn things around with both their reputation and success then I see no reason why Multiversus couldn't either. I think the best way to start would be to let all of the launch characters be free to play from the beginning like what Marvel Rivals is doing.

Doubly based if they decide to offer Gleamium for those who already bought everyone.

Totally not saying that because that deal of buying all pre-Raven characters at a lower price is the only thing I spent real money on

they mentioned the 2nd slot is gonna make people excited, i wonder who would make everyone happy and if Lapis fits the mold.
I was thinking the same due what Lapis Lazuli voice actress says about recording lines for a game, we could a water theme season with Aquaman.

So…

The Winter stuff is out but Marceline doesn’t have a page on the fighter list yet. However her bundle is out plus she is playable in the rift.

Also there’s a daily login where on the final day, you get 3k Fighter Currency. As the currency is retired, it is effectively a free fighter of your choice.

Random thing I noticed is that all characters now have a tag that's just the name of the character (Reindog and all of his skins have a "Reindog" tag, Batman and all of his skins have a "Batman" tag, ect.) Some characters' character tags are shorter than their character's full name (Steven Universe's tag is just "Steven," Lebron James' tag is just "LeBron," Marvin the Martian's tag is just "Marvin," ect.) I'm not sure when they added this, but I assume it's just so that it's easy to tell what character a skin in the shop is for.

On a side note, it's kind of amusing when a character has the same name as their franchise. For example, PPG has both a "The Powerpuff Girls" and "The Powerpuff Girls™" tag, as does Samurai Jack and Tom & Jerry.

When you got things like The Batman Who Laughs being a Joker skin, it's definitely justified.

Rift requirements for stars are as follows:

A Festiversus variant OR Marceline

The Festiversus variants are the Ugly Sweaters from two years ago (except Superman), Gizmo’s lights, and all of the new variants from the current event.

So apparently the Jason skin can be earned on any difficulty, the changes are much better the higher the difficulty.

Hmm, i wonder you can technically grind Insane and then increase your odds or the odds increase are just limited to Looney?

it could also be Daffy too since i've been convinced on twitter that season 5 being on february would mean promoting the day the earth blew up plus him being a long requested character helps the argument from the leaker.

Wow, the subreddits about MVS are next-level toxic.

Like i get being critical of the game, it has very definite flaws. But those subs, R/MultiversusTheGame especially, seem to be wishing that the game dies soon. How can you be THAT miserable

I just ignore that sub. Criticism is fine, wishing the game to shut down, costing people their jobs, is not ok.

Being a fan of this game is such an exercise in misery. Like damn, what did it do to get people hating it and wishing for it to die THIS much?

So I'm confused, there's only three "Knit-Bucks" you can earn? It sounds like the daily login should be giving you Knit-Bucks too based on what the description says, but it's all BP points and fighter currency of all things.

It's best to ignore them. Just use the sub for info like upcoming Twitch Drops, dates for upcoming events and characters and whatnot.

Sure, there's no telling where the game will head. But one, most other live service games didn't start good and it took a while before they got better or found their standing ground. And while the game still has it's problems with the microtransactions and oversights, the gameplay has been getting better IMO.
And two, if it stops, it stops. The world is still moving forward and there are more important things than what happens to a videogame. Rather than waste time constantly talking about the chances of something happening and looking at other people doomposting, it's best to focus on other stuff instead and just keep an ear out for when something happens. Just keep playing the game as intended and do other stuff when not playing instead of just waiting for the worst to happen.

It's likely the Knit-bucks were going to be the event currency like Cybucks and whatnot, but it got changed and they forgot to fix the descriptions.

Honestly, I just get my MVS news from this thread.

SneakyLink SneakyLink keeps us up to date so thank you to them.

As for the negativity, I'd say it's best to just play the game and ignore online discussion around it.

I've got more criticisms than positives to say myself but I can only imagine how tiring the doom posting and hoping for the game's failure has gotten for people that use social media.

I don't use Twitter/Reddit so I avoid most of it but the little I do come across is already annoying whenever it does pop up.

Starting next season, all voiceover work will be English only.

Other languages will still be available through subtitles.
Interesting. Blizzard games are having a similar issue where the newest updates of some games in certain dubs are just not dubbing new material. I wonder if it's an AI voice related issue

EDIT: You got a source on this claim btw?

In response to all the doomer talk. I don't want it to shut down but If it does then it had it coming lmao. Devs did everything but apply and address the big stuff that everyone wanted to see since Season 1 or earlier. Instead spending resources on multiple half-assed mechanics and changes they clearly weren't ready to do. Ranked still not fixed, took until Season 4 for some new modes, hitboxes still suck, next to no playtesting, etc. etc. The pointless Shield mechanic that didn't fix anything still doesn't even have bare minimum **** like Shield stun or non-invisible bug LOL.

Just gimme Aquaman at least before it's over. He's so cool. Wicked would be nice too, not holding my breath for that one.

A bit of a shame as someone who play in French, Mojo Jojo was already not dub and it was kind of weird hearing everyone speaking french but him when fighting on Townsville hall.

But aside from personal experience, this news sounds very bad to me. If they're cutting budget to the point that voicing in other language than English is impossible, it's hard to be optimistic for the futur of the game.

It could also be more voice actor issues rather than budget issues, particularly the voice actor strikes. It's been happening with Fire Emblem Heroes lately, where the number of characters that are having their ENG voices come later(resulting in them using their JP voice until then) are happening more frequently. And the voice actor strike is certainly not exclusive to ENG voice actors.

Considering we're still getting english VAs, I doubt it's a voice actor strike. The game has been cutting corners for a little while now, it's more realistic to just assume that VA pricing has gotten too expensive to be worth the extra hassle. Especially when MVS isn't as popular in other regions so there's no real gain. English speaking audiences has consistently been Multiversus' #1 focus, it took until Relaunch for there to be any Asia servers at all.

It really is frustrating because like, there's a lot to like and I also want to see the game succeed, but it's also hard because every single wound is entirely self-inflicted.

Shields are half baked, you could feel the inward grimace in the latest Into the Verse when one fan asked for a hitbox visualizer (they clearly Know), the season four Battlepasses (ESPECIALLY this second one) have been raked over the coals for their low quality with almost nothing worth the purchase, the servers are still awful, the season three-era authentication bug is STILL present for a lot of people (hi it's me), blast zones are still wonky at best, it's not a question whether or not a character will have a day one infinite, but instead how many, and in an era where Marvel Rivals is embarrassing all other live service games with its free to play model, this game's "answer" to the obnoxious and predatory character grind was...a different obnoxious character grind. Even if Rivals's system of "every character is free forever" was somehow off the table, Multiversus couldn't even commit to having the beta roster fully unlocked with no strings attached.

Inexperienced developers and corporate greed combining to make a problematic but still pretty fun (but again, super problematic) platform fighter that fails to live up to its potential. Died 2013, Born 2022. Welcome back, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Yeah I've been playing with Marvel rivals since launch and comparing with MVS, it's truly night and day. Sure, cosmetics are still overprice I guess, but Marvel rivals have free characters (even post launch), and unlimited time to complete the battle pass if you buy it, which reduce fomo a lot.

The fact that a game based on Disney properties and develop by Chinese developers respect more their players than WB says a lot.

Honestly PSASBR wasn't terrible, it's just that stupid system of having to kill with supers that ruins it. I mean the roster isn't phenomenal but the core gameplay would be a lot of fun if it was just rungout based or had health meters.

I'd say Multiversus is around roughly the same level of quality. With some tweaks it could work a lot vetter

For now, we shall wait and see. I assume all the things happening (season delay, voice changes) are WB changing things behind the scenes. We will see what happens in the New Year.

While I’m here:
