I almost feel like the live service format was the biggest mistake. Like every other problem traces back to the live service format.
I’d say it was definitely their biggest mistake. the gaming community at large have turning against live service games for a while now and what do WB do? double down on them

It also would have forced them to make better roster decisions to start with rather than just being like “Oh we will get to that eventually” and then never doing it.

As a tribute to the employees of PFG, Daniel Ross (The Gremlins characters and Uncle Shagworthy) did the song “New York New York” as sung by the characters he plays in game:

This is both a beautiful tribute to Gremlins 2 as well as about the best honorary send-off to Multiversus possible.

Blaming it on live service is silly when this game only got so massively successful to begin with because of it. Tony just mismanaged the game and was too focused on the "economy" and a stupid amount of grind while also being a poor shortsighted director. The entire reason the beta shut down was because of mismanagement.

Well, I decided I might as well finish the battlepass, and I’m quite close to its end now (even if I’m not that interested in the rest of the stuff in it,) and the event for Two Crows Rick is returning so I’ll probably want to do it this time, since I missed it last time and it’s probably the last event skin that I really particularly care about.

I have almost 2.5k free Gleamium that IDK what to do with. There’s no reason not to spend it, although it barely matters anyway since, in the long run, I’d be playing Beta+ and/or Infinite that’ll have all the skins anyway.

MVS is the only platform fighter that I can just log into and play chaotic doubles and have fun and have people to play against. I know it kinda feels like it’s already over, but yeah.

As the final curtain closes on MultiVersus, I find myself looking back on an unlikely source...

Does anyone remember when Space Jam: A New Legacy came out, and they let us vote on what the tie-in game would be like?

What I really wanted out of that game was a platform fighter a la Smash, but that wasn't one of the choices. And yet, MultiVersus has the following:
  • Playable appearances of Lebron James, The Iron Giant, Gizmo, Shaggy, Rick and Morty, and Arya Stark, among many.
  • Each stage can be seen as a different planet.
  • One of the final characters was Lola Bunny, co-star of the original Space Jam.
  • Loads of missed opportunities for characters, especially among the Tune Squad.
In other words? They made the game I truly wanted, and they still found a way to mess it up. A real damn shame.

I did some digging in the offline mode and here are some notes:

Before I start, to enter offline mode I disconnected my Xbox from the internet. Reconnecting put me back into online mode. After the shutdown, offline will be the only option.

1. As mentioned, minigames and modifiers have been added to Local Play. Yes, you can stack modifiers, perfect for when you want nothing but complete chaos.

2. For cosmetics acquired before the shutdown, you can change Skin, Banner, Ringout, and Emotes for all players from the Local mode character select screen. Announcer Packs, Profile Icons, and Badges still require you to go to the Fighter section of the Main Menu. Everything not gotten will not appear. Strangely the two Mythic Vista Arya variants appear here anyways.

3. For Rifts there are a few things to note. First, Rogue Rifts are available at all times and no longer have daily plays, but they no longer give awards. Second, all “Bring another player” missions now auto complete the next time you play a mission where it wasn’t cleared. Third, as mentioned, if a skin tag matches a mission requirement, then all skins with that tag will be available regardless of ownership. In addition to all released skins, there’s a few others (see the spoiler for the full list):
Credit to Discord for this list:
so the unreleased offline rift skins include:
all previously released elusives (including ranked skins)
most of the unreleased ValentiNeon variants (jason, ppg, raven, marceline, aquaman, jack)
all unreleased Platfight t-shirts (bugs, joker, velma, wonder woman)
new 52 aquaman
both unreleased mythic vista arya skins
Gizmo's Winter Wonderland skin (known as Giz-Snow)
Freddy vs Jason
Cat Burglar, Lights Out, and classic Tune Squad for Lola
Spacesuit Morty
Comics Raven
Sleepytime Shaggy
Golfer Taz
all of the valentineons are rare, the platfights are elusive, and the rest are all rare except for cat burlgar and both aryas, which are epic
Finally, for levels requiring you to own a specific skin to play, then any skins you didn’t obtain will be labeled as a guest skin, allowing you to play the level.
One month warning before online services shut down and Multiversus ends. If you wish to play offline, log into your platform(s) of choice before May 30. I recommend the Steam version as by using parsec you can simulate an online environment with friends.

If you have any Gleamium left over, buy yourself a bundle if you can, all bundles are on discount (except Raven’s White Raven bundle, no idea why this never went on discount). If you bought a founder’s pack and have yet to convert your character tickets to Gleamium, do so now. The Prestige store items are all 50% off too.

Remember, all characters and perks will be available for use offline. Cosmetics will only be what you earned or purchased, except in rifts where missions that have a specific requirement allow you to use all variants of that type regardless of ownership. See the post I made above for more details. Note that the two Mythic Vista Arya skins are an exception and will be available in all modes.

I plan on making two more reminder posts, one a week before the end, and one on the last day.
