Moving to LA

Greetings again to all the Cali players!

I'll be moving to LA for at least a year to finish my degree. Not sure how busy I'll be with the workload yet, but I know that I'll have a lot of free time before classes begin and was hoping to meet up with any members of the community interested in playing smash (or tennis, poker, whatever sounds interesting).

I don't know the area well, so I'm not sure who is close by to my place. Players are certainly welcome to stop by, and I could probably travel to someone elses place if I can take a bus to get there.

I don't have a car yet, so I probably can't travel that far. Still, if there are any tournaments or smashfests nearby I would come if possible. Perhaps I can take a bus or get a ride with another player, in which case I would obviously offer gas money. Speaking of which, are there any events that take place near LA or in it?

I'm up for either melee or brawl. Looking forward to seeing some of the players I haven't seen in ages (like DSF and Hugs) and meeting most of you for the first time.

Oh right, I'll be here on the 24th of August, which is less than a week from now.

Heh, well I'm not sure what qualifies as "playing" brawl, but melee, poker, or tennis would all be fine by me. Perhaps we could have a melee fest!

Out of curiosity, how close do you live to LA?

prioritizing brawl over melee, basically.

i am 30 min from LA with no traffic, 40-45 with traffic.

the LA-area has (as you would expect) the most melee players, with 818 and lucky/mango in the vicinity, although most people don't drive so you'd be better off with a vehicle. i do drive, but obv gas is a problem + who the hell likes to go to LA.

how proficient are you in poker?

Okay cool, well in that case it shouldn't be a problem heh.

I'm moving to Westgate Ave, which is really close to Santa Monica and also pretty close to Culver City. It's very close to route 405 too, which is a plus for long distance travel. Hope I'm close to at least a few players!

If Mango and Lucky are nearby, it would be great to play against all of you guys. I'd offer to host an event myself, but the house is small and I doubt it could fit more than 8 people (and even 8 might be tough).

As far as poker goes, I'm pretty new to the game but I still have a decent understanding of the math and odds. I've only played online and once at a casino, but I'd be up for playing more.

Mango and Lucky are neighbors that live in Norwalk. I live by K-town and West Hollywood if you wanna smash sometime.

I'd be up for either game, especially when I first arrive and don't have class work to worry about. How would I get in contact with Bardull and Ajax? Speaking of which, is there any listing of the Westcoast players and where they live?

ResidentWaffle, sounds good to me. West Hollywood shouldn't be too far. Would it be possible for me to take a bus there? If not, you are certainly welcome to stop by my place, and I'm sure I'll have no difficulty getting there once I have a car (but that might be a while).

Made it in recently! Not a whole lot to do until Thursday, so if anyone is interested in some smash feel free to PM me. I will not have an intermet connection until wed, but a library nearby is free. Still, I will only be able to logon twice a day until then. I will probably attend axis. but I would really like to meet some of you and get some practice in beforehand.

You can try mapquesting, if you'd like. I'm really close to UCLA. 1253 South Westgate Avenue.

Yeah you aren't far at all. I think you could take the rapid bus all the way here for 1.25.

Hey, I'm from the Torrance area. Something like 20-30 min away?
I'll try to make a thread later putting a bunch of links for nearby smash activities in the Southbay and surrounding areas. I think it'll be convinient to have one thread that sums up a smash popular area. (my focus will be on Melee though)

Just curious, what kind of degree are you going for?
