I'll be short and to the point, I didn't just like the first Transformers, I loved it. Yeah, it had a typical and predictable plot and Morgan Fox in it but it also had epic Giant Robot fights and some great humor, which pretty much made up for all of the movies flaws. And now it's sequel time, but how is the sequel? Read on and find out.
To it's two years after the first Transformers and humans are working with the Autobots to snuff out any remaining Decepticons on Earth. Meanwhile, Sam (Shila Buff or however you spell it) is moving onto Collage and finds a piece of the Allspark on one of his clothes. And by touching it he's suddenly had a bunch of knowledge and stuff like that transfered into his noggin, causing him to kind of act like that one crazy guy from Indiana Jones 4. And then there's something about some kind of powerful thing called the Matrix of Leadership or something to that end along with some evil overlord called The Fallen trying to take his revenge (or something like that) and while it isn't anything special you wouldn't think that the way the movie drags on about it.
My main problem with Revenge of the Fallen is that it spends way to much time on the plot and not enough time on what people are really there for, the Giant Robot fights. And not to mention that the film would be considerably better if Michel Bay didn't choose to spend half the movie trying to convince you that Morgan Fox's character is relevant to the plot. And the thing is, she isn't. All she does is just worry about Sam the entire movie and her character could have easily been cut from the script without anything changing. Actually, now that I think about it hardly any of the human characters matter. Like they have this new guy named Leo who also doesn't do anything but provide another character. The amount of Giant Robot fights is still disappointingly small. And it's worth noting that the Giant Robot fight at the end of the movie was a tad bit anti-climatic.
Okay, so... the humor of the movie. The first Transformers movie had some pretty good humor through in it. And this time the humor is back, with reinforcements. It's also mature humor, that is, if you consider sexual innuendos to be mature. But the thing is is that they've just overdone them this time around. Pretty much ever other line is a sexual joke and they also have weird sexual actions like a mini-con humping Morgan Fox's leg for no reason.
Okay, now that I've pretty much vented about everything I didn't like about the movie I will now talk about what I did like. Yes, the Transformers themselves are as baddass and awesome looking as ever. And when the movie wasn't trying to convince you that it has an amazing plot and that Morgan Fox has a highly important character it was freaking awesome. Well, the Robot Fights anyway, and all of the military parts. It's also worth pointing out that the brutality of the fights has been toned up, and for one last note: some parts of this movie strangely gave me Bionicle vibes.
When Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen gets rolling, it gets rolling. However, what could have been an awesome movie is dragged down by poorly done drama and attempts to develop characters that don't need developing. But this movie is worth seeing alone for the action. So I'll end on this: Michel Bay, for the inevitable Transformers 3, leave the Sci-Fi drama to Star Trek and just stick with the Giant Robot fights.
