Get ready Texas. Monsters Arcade is holding a Super Smash Brothers Brawl Season!

Season Winner Grand prize is MLG sponsorship by Monsters Arcade!

Details:

Season Tournaments will be held monthly at Monsters Arcade of-course. We will have dates announced for the series at least 3 months in advance as to work out any conflicts. Next Tournament dates are:

May 22nd and June 19th

Each individual tournament will have a pot payout and the season will have a pot payout at the end of the 6 month period. Breakdown is as follows:

SSBB Singles $20 total per person.
-$5 Venue Fee
-$10 Tournament Fee
-$5 Season Fee

SSBB Doubles $15 total per person
-$10 Venue Fee ($5 per person)
-$15 Tournament Fee (per team)
-$5 Season Fee (per team)

(If you enter both seasons of singles and doubles your total will be $37.50)

Tournament fee will be split at the end of each tournament with a 70/20/10 split.
Season Fee will be split at the end of the season with also a 70/20/10 split. The first place winner will also receive MLG sponsorship for the 2011 season !!

Venue fees are only paid once for those entering singles and doubles.

To be able to offer this we are looking at at-least a 24 person attendance so come on out and support the Texas Smash community.

We will be using the HOBO ruleset:

Random/neutral: Smashville, Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi Story, Pokemon Stadium 1

Counter-pick: Lylat Cruise, Brinstar, Delfino, Frigate Orpheon, Jungle Japes, Rainbow Cruise, Castle Siege, Halberd, Port Town, Pictochat.

Banned: Everything else. If both players agree to play on a banned stage....its ok

1. Each match should be a 3 Stock battle with a 8(or 7) minute timer

2. Items are set to "off" and "none"

3. Set format (In Order of Procedure):
Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
Opponents start the stage striking procedure
Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counterpicks of the set
The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
The winner of the previous match chooses their character
The loser of the previous match chooses their character
Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

4. All sets with the possible exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above is recommended for any "finals" matches)

5. In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors

6. No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.

7. In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.

8. If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.

9. Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.

10. By entering the tournament you agree to have any tournament matches be recorded if possible, and be uploaded without the need for consent by the players in the match.

Tournaments will be a Double Elimination bracket. And all brackets and points will be updated online as they become available.

Points:
1st - 12
2nd - 10
3rd - 9
4th - 8
5th - 7
6th+ - 1

We also have an area designated for people who bring their own setups. We have a limit of 10 that are available so if you want a spot please register at our forums.
www.Monstersarcade.net/forums

Finals will always be played on our setups for recording purposes and so their is no dispute over whose display will be used.

I hope to see you all here and if you have any questions dont be afraid to ask on our facebook, forums or call. THX!!!

Yeah, they really need to cut back on venue fee.

Especially if the payouts are like that, with minimal entrants, your really gonna win nothing.

5$ sounds more reasonable.

This is not sponsored by MLG.

I think the OP means that the winner will get free travel by some organization to go to MLG events. However MLG has nothing to do with this tournament.

Sorry guys i shoulda been more clear. I represent Monsters Arcade. We just opened and we wanted to do something big for the smash community. $10 is just our regular price for a day of play, but i understand the smash community is used to paying less.

So how bout this, for our first season lets make the venue fee $5. I will apply this to all 6 brawl season tournaments as-well.

We just really want folks to come check the place out and hopefully run smash seasons every year. Not incredibly concerned with making money at this point in time.

Dao, P4, and Leaf attended our last one so if you have any concerns about how we operate feel free to ask them or you can contact us personally through our facebook or our forums.

Or call us at 281-397-8511

And yes we are not an MLG tournament but we really want to sponsor a few guys to send to MLG events in the future. We are talking about plane tickets, lodging, and entry fees.

I will update all event posts with the new pricing.

if you guys get a blazblue machine then ill come in a heartbeat

also, thanks for being responsive about the venue fee

We are talking about getting a CS machine but honestly with the console release so close we cant really see ourselves doing it. Rest assured though we will have a release party for it just like we are doing for super street fighter.

Naw, most smashers are just cry babies. The same people will travel across the nation spending a lot more money but will complain about said venue fee in there own city. Whobo 2 basically had a 35$ venue fee.

Ur an idiot...whobo was a anime convention...one of the biggest ones that happen at that.

Majority of smashers went to Whobo 2 to play in the brawl tournament AKA you had to pay for that badge just to play in the tourny. All that badge did was let you walk around the building, not like you got a free copy of Persona 3 FES or something.

Whoa, I just opened my bag and found an extra remote/nunchuck. I guess this was the one you were talking about, and I must of accidentally taken it since I have one myself. This community isn't full of thieves so if there a possible way you can make it to HOBO and I give it to you or should we wait till next month?

Tetsuo, once u get some more brawl events under your belt, i was wondering if we could combine forces and do a regional event. This will help both of us in more ways than one. I will explain more if u are interested. Just PM or something.
