MK ditto help

My friend has picked up on my play style lately, and I need some new ideas to change it up. We both play relatively campy MKs. I run into shield a lot, and wait for them to attack it or side step, then punish. Lately when I run in and shield, he retreats with SH fair, or MT if my shield is low. Anyway, this approach isn't working for me anymore at all. MT usually gives me some damage, up half the time he DIs up, and Dairs me out of it :(.

He likes to MT, retreating fairs>ftilt. He almost never grabs. And hes all about sidestep Dsmash.

I dunno, what are some solid MK ditto approaches I could use to change up my game sometimes? And how do I edge guard? Do I chase him off the side, grab ledge, or with for him to get up from the ledge? He usually recovers with shuttle loop. Maybe grab ledge and MT?

Are there no in-depth MK ditto threads?! All that paragraph of information tells me to do is out space them. I learned a little from that information, but it doesn't go into deep details about the match at all.

The best thing for MK dittos is experience. You need to learn what works on MK, how to get through Tornado, how to put pressure on MK. Besides that there isn't much of a match up because its a ditto. Provided you know all the tools against MK, then its all down to mindgames and spacing.

We're not pro level smashers. What are commonly used mind games you use? Especially ones that tend to work on intermediate level players. And what are my options after a grab? He usually DIs hard and away from me when I D-throw. Does Fthrow UpB work? And how do you put pressure on MK? Just SH Fair>Ftilt?

I don't know all the tools and all the mind games at my disposal.

use your shield, alot. if he sidesteps, just keep holding your shield until he uses the dsmash, then punish out of shield with a ftilt/grab. if he likes to ledgedfrop -> shuttle loop, then stand near the edge, wait for the first hit of the shuttle loop to hit your shield., then jump out of shield, and hit him with your own shuttleloop or a nair. punish tornados with dair, or upangled shield into anything. dthrow to fsmash will work @ higher %s if he decides to airdodge towards you after the dthrow.b

Thing is, there are so few combos in this game, so when you do a move, you dont expect it to connect with another move after one move.

If you dthrow, first time I may sh fair. next time i dthrow, i may wait for the, to touch the ground before grabbing. 3rd time i dthrow, i may shield and punish their attack. Its all about predicting your opponent and punishing. You have to mix it up, condition them, get in their mind.

You need to explore what you can do.

Eg after dthrow, you can do:

fair
dair
nair
ftilt
dtilt
grab
pivot grab
shield
Shuttle loop
Tornado
charge fsmash!
nothing!!

theres so many options, but you need to know which ones will work, based on past experience. What did your opponent do last time? what do you think he will do next? what would you do next if you were in his position? does he even know his options?

and as a final comment, I am a pro brawl player :) Ive won UK tournaments, although the UK isnt as big as the states obviously >.> UK is probs equivalent to 1 state in US.
