This game looks awesome. It didn't look too hard to control and to make it even better, you can lock on to enemies. A shooter like this should take full advantage of the Wii's remote.

*waves* Hey Nite!

On-topic: If you watch the high-res vids of this, you'll see that the graphics are noticably improved over Metroid Prime 2. But that part doesn't really worry me; I still am amazed by the particle effects and water/atmosphere appearances (especially the safe zones in the Dark world, those look incredible) in MP2, so having that on slighly more powerful hardware 2 years later will still make me say, to quote Iwata, "Wow." Besides, MP2 only had the 2 year advantage on MP1, and look how much better it looked.

As far as the controls, no multiplayer is confirmed, so I just want the control scheme to fit the single player game as perfectly as possible, much like MP/MP2. I can't wait to physically "launch" the grapple beam, and manually opening door locks with the nunchuka sounds like a great diversion from and addition to the rest of the gameplay. And, with the (confirmed) addition of multiple sensitivities for the Wiimote, I'm sure aiming with and without the lock-on will have a 5 minute learning curve, tops.

I'm just happy that the actual Ridley is in the game, and not his cyborg form. And I hope to god Kraid is in it! What I think would be coolest is if they had Meta Kraid just like Meta Ridley.

Multiplayer would be great, but I thought I read somewhere (possibly IGN) that there would be no multiplayer, have to wait for confirmation I suppose.

Utilising the Wii-mote is going to be incredible from what I've heard and watched in terms of gameplay and personally I can't wait to sit down on my couch and start aiming around the screen, should be awesome fun.

I wouldn't be suprised if there's no multiplayer. Aside from controll issues, thye probably wouldn't for all the idiots who complained about not liking it (including reviewers who marked it down because it had the multiplayer, idiots)

Chill's probably right,
besides the 'Wii' name is suposed to invoke the feeling of cooperation, and more than one person, take a look at the i's for example. it also sounds a lot like the work 'we'
It's a release game as well, so it should support the name

That would make sense, I am I was no fan of the Metroid Prime 2 multiplayer but I didn't think less of it for being there, I mean I love Metroid Prime Hunters multiplayer and I'm sure if they worked hard enough they could make some form of multiplayer for the 3rd... but I guess we'll see, I want it but if it doesn't make it into the game thats okay as well.

As of now, they're not going to have any multiplayer.

"IGN Wii: Will Metroid Prime 3 feature an online mode?

Kensuke Tanabe: No, we have only single-player. I have also produced Prime Hunters and for that game I tried to use the Wi-Fi Connection for multiplayer. For Prime 3, I would like to concentrate more on the single-player so I decided not to implement multiplayer for Prime 3. As you know, Wii will have Connect 24, so we are thinking more about the possibility of using that functionality so that the player can get something."

Of course, anything could change between now and when it comes out, and I'd like to see an updated version of the multiplayer that doesn't stink. >_>

Yeah I thought I'd read it somewhere, but I do hope they have another attempt at it in some way instead of just giving up, not much of an attitude to have after all.

Make the levels bigger, add ALL the wepons instead of just light and dark. have All the visors and make the leveld design complex. the last multiplayer on MP2 sucked D.

Not to forget Wi-Fi and bots lol, then I'd be happy. Come on Retro, give it another try, learn from your mistakes.

Otherwise this game is looking incredibly good though, and I can't wait to get it for the Wii.

Plot Information Revealed

The Galactic Federation is in crisis, its computer network, Aurora Unit, frozen by an alien virus. Though Samus Aran is the main charcter of Metroid games, other bounty hunters are there too. Who caused this? Dark Samus. The Wii FPS gives the heroine new powers via an injection of the toxic substance Phazon.

That's the story line. ;)

Great, so she's part human, part Metroid and Part radioactive ooze. So when does she get an injection of Chozo/space pirate blood?

EDIT: Woah, very cool video. Samus using some sort of lightning shooting morphball? Dropping bombs from her ship to open a blocked path? (Finally she actually uses her ship) Going on a flying fox via grapplebeam? This is looking like the best yet.

She had Chozo blood from when she was a child :p . That is why she's able to use some of the functions of her suit, like morph ball. How do you know the Phazon in her is permanent?

That video was awsome. I can't wait for the game to come out.

Edit: That lightning shooting morphball kind of makes me think it's Samus in Hyper mode, and I think that last part was a phazon meteor.

The hunters' char designs look almost 100 times better than the MPH hunters, as D. Samus' redesign looks better too. The E3 demo also showed that they'll apparently be friendly, at least some of them. That demo itself was awesome, especially the ending scene when Samus started shooting right into Ridley's mouth. There haven't been any other boss fights like that in Metroid so far, have there, with the falling part?

Oh, and the Metroid blood is in Metroid Fusion, which is supposed to happen after this, so she can't have the Metroid blood yet, and continuity would dictate that the Phazon isn't permanent.

Where that boomerang came from
I'm also questioning their choice of control schemes: I've played games with mouse and keyboard that have the same sort of box, where if you move out of it, you begin to turn, and they never feel right. In reality, would you move your gun at angles to your view, but not change the way your head is facing? Of course not - your aim would suck if you tried to shoot out of the corner of your eye. This also makes quickly turning and blowing an enemy's head off pretty frustrating. I guess the reason for this decision, thoug, is that when playing with a Wiimote, you won't really turn around to turn around in game. You will have to motion to some degree while still facing your TV screen. Since you can't pull the Wiimote off your table to re-orient it like you can a mouse for continuous turning, you get this somewhat clunkier aiming system.

I bet you tilt the controller sideways to turn, hold R to aim, press A to shoot, and tilt it forward and backward to walk/run.

R and A uses re probably correct, but you use the control stick on the Nunchuk to move.

There was something I read about the Red Steel controls a while ago that dealt with the camera and Wiimote aiming, I can't remember what it was, but it sounded like it would fix this problem. It was basically what was suggested for all FPS type games before any games were really announced, so it only seems natural MP3 would use it also. Dang, I wish I could remember what it was, something about lag or eliminating lag that occurred with the camera in older console FPS's when trying to move the recticle.

Major Update

Retro Studios finally spills the beans on MP3.

Corruption is a direct sequel to MP2. The goal of the game is to wrap-up the storyline that deals with phazon, which was featured in MP and MP2 as the cause of what happened to the planets Samus visited. The player will understand the fate of Phazon and why it is so importrant. Samus will be corrupted by the Phazon hence the title.

The idea behing the game is Hyper Mode which was introduced in Super Metroid at the end of the game. You will be able to enter Hyper Mode at any time once you aquire it. The game mechanics will switch to a different health bar once youenter Hyper Mode. Once it empties, you switch back to Normal Mode.

Because the game controls will be different, the game will focus a bit more on shooting since whether than exploration (though it will still be there). Most players will find it easier to shoot anyways.

While backtracking to pick-up new items is vital to the Metroid franchise, Retro Studios is focusing on making backtracking more enjoyable and less of a nusense. The game will unsurprisingly a little less difficult to promote to a wider audience and newcomers to the Prime series. Difficulty will still play a part of the game, however.

As opposed to small sections in the series, environments will be much bigger because of the systems capabilities over the Gamecube.

The other bounty hunters in the game are also directly tied to the story.

Corruption has been confirmed as a launch title.

Samus will visit multiple planets again like in MP2. Samus will be stopping corruption from Phazon on a vast amount of planets through which you must explore.

There is a new visor called the Command Visor that allows control of the ship. Not for flying from planet to planet but to come to Samus and maybe blow down a wall or something. You will be able to travel back and forth between planets as much as you want for exploring new areas.

The command visor, scan visor, combat visor, and x-ray visor will be all of Samus's visors. The stacking of beam weapons from Super Metroid is returning instead of the c-stick switching.

Metroids will play a much better role in MP3.

Multiplayer will not be used in MP3 IN THE SAME FORMAT AS MP2! The WiiConnect24 brings different functions to the game.

Though MP3 is the last game in the Metroid Prime trilogy, the franchise will continue to be expanded like MPH on DS.

Retro Studios will continue to produce new games after MP3 is done so look for new games produced by Retro Studios soon.

For such a small company, they have an extremely talented team. :)

The fact they said that before, yeah.

And mega cool for the command visor. They showed a clip of Samus' ship doing a bombing raid on a wall to make a hole for Samus to get through.

Basically, whenever you got a new weapon, it'd have the same effects as your old one.

IE: Your beam shoots through walls and then you get ice beam, you then have an ice beam that shoots through walls.

Bettin Dark Samus absorbs enough Phazon and transforms in Metroid prime again, also, the fact Ridley is back makes me want to have this game even more!

There are voiceovers now, and new hunters too.

Man, I can't believe it has already almost been two years since MP2. Time's been flying by. I'm surprised that Retro Studios can just keep pumping out these quality titles out every 2 years.

I'm very interested in the new things that Corruption will introduce/re-introduce. I love the idea of utilizing the command visor to control your ship. Also, it's good to see the return of the X-Ray visor, as it was one of my favorite parts of Metroid Prime.

As much as I liked the weapon switching in MP, I felt that it limited the use of later-obtained weapons. I found the Anihilator almost pointless to use in MP2, as opposed to the plasma beam from the original MP. The "weapon stacking" concept, first brought about in Super Metroid (which still remains as the best Metroid game ever) sounds like it'll suit Corruption a lot better. It'll make it so you will actually be forced to benefit from beam-upgrades throughout the game. I think if they kept in the weapon-switching, it would make things feel redundant. Retro's decisions not to repeat themselves (i.e. not making Samus re-obtain her armor...again) are going to be significant in ensuring the best possible closing for the Metroid Prime series.

I love the Metroid franchise. However, after Corruption, I definitely want to see the next game taking place after Metroid Fusion. Right now, I'm dying to see what new endeavors that Samus is going to take on with her newly acquired suit, and if she'll have further opportunities to utilize her X-absorbing powers.

Yeah totally agree with this guy.
Also the said MP3 was gonna be the last of the PRIME series, so im hoping another 1st person metroid game will be out 2 or 3 years adter mp3.

I'm hoping any Metroids after Corruption will be done in 2D, and get back to the elements that gave Metroid its feel.

I'm glad they brought back beam-stacking, and all. But part of what defined Metroid was being alone on an alien planet, with only silence and a will to survive as company. [Well there was the Green Koala Squad and that ostrich but you get my point]. Bringing the hunters into the single player will probably turn it into more of a Halo-ripoff than a true Metroid. And it's sad, because even Prime took on a Resident Evil-like undertone. Sometimes I'm against the universal sharing of ideas because it monotonizes a lot of things that once were unique.

Anyway, the new gameplay mechanics seem fresh. I was playing Prime the other day and desiring some of the vary same things I read in the interview. Like how Samus can travel to several planets in one game. And wishing I could combine my plasma with my spazer [wave]. Kinda weird huh?

Let's just hope the rule of threequels holds up this time.

1 word: WOW. I really like the way you can do things with the Wii controler. Pulling blockades away, pulling switched and even pulling items from enemies! And wow, I really got goose bumps when I saw Samus looking up at the generator when Ridley came down... If this one wouldn't be better than MP1 or 2, I'm gonna scream.
