U guys having weekly tournies now?
Not tournies. We just get together and play Super Smash Brothers at the VUE. Literally we just meet up there at 5PM and play some Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl. Some people bring setups, I bring one Melee and one Brawl setup cuz that is all I have. And we have a 40 square foot projector to use on Tuesdays. It's pretty amazing.

I'm thinking about incorporating some small tournaments into the weeklies though. Such as: Brawl Home Run Derby Competition this week! Winner will get something... I don't know yet, but it'll be something cheap, and stupid. I wanna find a tiny, imitation bat if possible. I think it'd be great lol. And of course, we'd keep the event records on the website for kicks.

It's actually doing pretty well. As well as I can do by myself. My main seems to be Fox. I still can't get the timing down for grabs for some reason. Seems to be the one thing that befuddles me. I can wavedash now :) and I can L-Cancel. I think I've played Brawl so long that the reaction and timing is never going to be perfect.

Coming from a former brawler...youll get it. Adjusting from melee to brawl is easy (besides accidentally trying to Wd) Adjusting from brawl to melee is whats difficult...Itll all come in time though

I still have to say that I enjoy certain parts of Brawl more than Melee. The controls aren't as stiff in Brawl. If I'm sprinting I can use the C-stick to attack, and I can sprint then immediately shift into a smash attack by using the C-stick. In melee I can't use the C-stick unless I let off the joystick. Since I like to run away and then immediately turn around w/ MK and forward smash, and a lot of my style of play in Super Smash Brothers includes sprinting than attacking, Melee poses huge problems for me. I literally have to use an entirely different style of play in Melee. Although, I may not have the timing down for doing smash attacks while sprinting in Melee. It just feels like they don't even exist.

Glad to hear you're getting your wd and l-cancelling. L-canceling is still my biggest problem. My timing is sometimes off and I still don't do it every single time I hit the ground in certain situations.

If you like to run and then smash in brawl, a good way to do that in melee is to just sprint wherever you want, and then to just wave dash either forward, backwards, or even straight down. From their you can immediately smash whatever direction you want.

To the best of my memory (and I just texted Cyner, he confirmed this), you'll dash attack if you c-stick while running in Brawl.
Also in Melee you can go straight into an upsmash out of a run by hitting up-A with good timing, and you can do a down or forward smash sooner by holding down to crouch (and therefore stop the run sooner). And if you're still dashing instead of running you can pivot a smash (or anything really) but the timing for that is pretty hard.

Trust me there are ways of doing it, it just takes more effort.

In brawl, when you smash straight out of a run it does it for you, but there is a slight delay on it. That is there because it seems like it almost slows you down automatically then does the attack. You have to compensate for the time and c-stick slightly before your actually in range of it.
melee, on the other hand, you can't smash out of a run as you have noticed.....unless you use a dash cancel or WD appropriately. Jump Canceling to UpSmash is the fastest, but you can crouch cancel the dash to any smash attack.

Watch the first 5 minutes of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFmGIOcWdsM&feature=fvw

Better yet....watch that entire 3 part series. It explains just about everything about advanced melee skills very clearly. Really helped me out when I started switching over

Edit: I lose in the helping race
and yea i just popped in Brawl Spaceballs is right it does a dash attack not a smash. But it does do that delay i remembered too.

I meant you can dash attack while using the C-stick in Brawl (I was careless and didn't re-read and edit lol), what I'm saying is I have to press the A button in Melee, which goes totally against my muscle reflex. I'll keep trying and practice against you guys tomorrow! ;) I still play Brawl all the time so I guess I haven't dedicated myself to mastering Melee yet.

And tasty, I'll definitely watch those videos tonight.

I don't have to highlight, the text is a different color than the background.
But I was planning to be there anyway, now I'll be there WITH A VENGEANCE.

It's 5-6 straight hours of Smash Brothers... there are no excuses for not being there. If you're great uncle dies, you still better be there. If the apocalypse hits you'll just have to die playing Smash Brothers. It's really the best way to go... :reverse:

This is mostly for Ambix and Cyner: I left my cell at home today because I couldn't find it and was running late for work. So if you're trying to call or text me I won't get it until around 5. So if you need to tell me anything, PM me or post it here. Otherwise I'll just expect to see at least Ambix at my apartment around 5ish so we can leave for the VUE.

Tonight was awesome guys! I had tons of fun getting murdered in Melee! Haha! and Ambix, sorry about your headache! That sucks! I hope it goes away quickly.

P.S. I just want to say I got a lucky Usmash on Ambix, and killed him once! Oh yeah, I made progress :) lol.

I will also hopefully be purchasing 2 27" or bigger CRT TV's this weekend so we will not have 3 extra, useless Wii's/GC's sitting around.

It went away this morning.

Also the nietzsche argument I brought up last night was from a chapter called "On the teachers of virtue" from his book zarathustra.

Finding the non-shitty translations of nietzsche is a pain in the ass but this one should do: Obscenely long google books link

I don't recall what exactly I said last night but hopefully I wasn't taking it horribly out of context. The argument had to do with your relationship with your own thoughts and consciousness. I.E. if you were in control of yourself you could "overcome yourself" which is part of his concept of the "overman". The "overman" is in complete control of his own thoughts and doesn't have the same relationship with guilt so he can sleep peacefully. He argued that a lot of the christians at the time slept soundly because christian morality was basically a drug that enabled them to not take responsibility for their own thoughts.

I really wish I could have remembered the whole chapter at the time instead of making some vague reference to it. It would have been an interesting conversation and I would have looked less like a jackass with migrane johns.

Also there were no pics of that upsmash. Therefore it never happend D:

Fun fact. Ambix is the name of a mid-boss in xenosaga and that game draws heavily from nietzsche philosophy. There were a crap load of religious references in that game too.

That game was amazing. I only played the first episode, but it was one of my favorite PS2 rpg's. And what era is Nietzshe from?

The 1800's.

The subtitles of all three games are actually titles of books written by nietzsche.

(Der Wille zur Macht) the will to power, (Jenseits von Gut und Böse) beyond good and evil, and (Also sprach Zarathustra) thus spoke zarathustra.

Hey guys, last night (10/26) was an awesome night of lots of brawling and meleeing! (Yes, meleeing is a word... as of now)
Things are looking good and we look forward to next week. One issue however came up last night that I need to mention. As you know the place we use has a policy about language, however Jordan and I have not been very picky on that as we know that sometimes it slips out. Last night some of the guys playing brawl were getting carried away with the language however (don't worry, the melee guys were all good boys ;) ). We aren't mad, but dropping five 'f' bombs in one sentence alone is a bit excessive. The real problem is that we could lose our privileges to use the facility if it gets any worse. From what we could tell it wasn't anyone from the tournament, you guys are all good. However as we add new people to our cult...er... league, we ask that if somebody new is getting a bit carried away that you respectfully ask them to tone it down. All in all, everything has been really awesome, and the language wasn't really an issue, but we just thought we would remind everyone. Jordan is technically an employee and supposed to enforce a non-language policy, so it puts him in a tough spot if he has to answer to his supervisor for excessive amount of language being used.

In short, everything is awesome, just a reminder. Jordan will eventually get around to setting up a MemphisBrawler forum once he gets off his lazy butt and doesn't have tons of school work or work work. We are in no danger as of now of losing the place, but I just want to make sure that it doesn't become an issue later on since those kinds of surprises are not optimal or desired.

P.S. I will be working on my Metaknight drawing so that it is not mistaken for a Mortal Kombat character or a black sheep. These types of confusions are not desired when trying to make a funny comic. (Though it probably makes it funny that it didn't look anything like Metaknight, if anyone wants to teach me I will only charge $10 an hour for you to teach me ;) , jk)

So tomorrow is our next Tuesday, and we now have 2 extra CRT TV's kept permanently at the VUE. So hopefully we shouldn't have such a TV problem this time... We might have one less Wii, because Talon has managed to kill his! How he did this, nobody knows.... Hope to see everyone tuesday!

And sorry about the double post.

You can still give me $10 and I'll still be your friend. :)
Hey, if I wanted to pay for friends, then I'd join one of those Fraternities and slap Greek letters all over my shirt. Then I could pay $300 a month and have lots of friends... But I haven't done that have I? So don't expect to get paid either!!!! lol :)

Sweet! No Super Saiyan Mode allowed... Talon you'll have to tone down the Fox Speed... and guess what?!?!? I BOUGHT A WII TODAY!!!! YES!!!

btw, I ordered a Power Save in the mail if you want to use mine. It will be in by Friday. That way you don't have to play 450,999,993,399.67x10^7 brawls to get Jigglypuff and such.

The characters weren't my concern. It was unlocking random stage select that would be a problem for me as I don't have time to play the game as much as I'd want to. Oh and no sir...Fox's speed will only burst the limit.I'm a speed demon by nature. And Rob will be anally probing a lot of life forms this upcoming tourney. lol

So, just so everyone knows a few employees/players from GameStop will be at the VUE on Tuesday and at the tournament Saturday. Were looking at a possible sponsorship with them. Nothin different than usual will happen. We'll just have extra people there lol. I'm pretty excited about this personally.

Whatever you do if they sponsor us,go by your rule set.Gamestop has some pretty god awful rule sets that have been looked down upon a few times. You should just stick to what you're used to imo. Can't wait for Tuesday. The last warm up for the week with fellow smashers.
