This is strictly for the Pacific West room. If you've already voted in another room, don't vote here.

As the title says, when it comes down to it, which would you rather play? Not which you play at tourneys because that can be different.

Let's all vote so there's no miscount! Also, let's try not to post unless what you say has not been said already.

THIS IS NOT A DEBATE THREAD. PLEASE, FOR THE SAKE OF SCIENCE!!

Think about it, and actual collective study.

I haven't seen anyone post polls on this before, and have it not being about a melee vs brawl debate.

spread the word, vote or die (>.>)

What's the point of debating if you can't use numbers as proof. We'll always be at a standstill otherwise. The results from each room will eventually be tallied together.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Of course, debating to force others to play a game over another in general is wrong, but if someone can't decide what game to run during a tournament and they can only choose one, they'd want the one that'll bring in more people. Seeing as these rooms are for competitive play, the question can fit the bill.

Dude, you could look at the sales for Brawl -- it's not an understatement to call it one of the most popular games of all-time. What do you think is going to get chosen for "competitive" play?

Just wondering, what would this poll accomplish?

yayhuz for Melee!

But P does make a valid point. Popular games (and/or sequels) are usually the ones chosen for tournaments.

Brawl tournaments bring in more people than Melee tournaments do, even if Melee is more popular with the people who frequent this board. Just compare the attendance of recent Melee tournaments to that of Brawl tournaments to see this.

If more people run exclusively Brawl tournaments, whenever a Melee tournament is run as a side event, no one will pay attention to it because they don't want to get worse at what people are playing more. I think the reason Melee is more popular, but isn't being played is because the initial reaction to Brawl was more welcoming, so tournament organizers don't want to risk experimenting right now.

I'm trying to prove a point with evidence. I don't see how that's funny.

I have to correct your hypothesis: Melee is not more popular. Not by a mile. Almost five million people have bought Brawl since it came out. Melee had seven million sold over seven years. Just compare the tourny results -- just because it might be more popular with the prior "competitive" community really doesn't mean, well, anything whatsoever.

I didn't know casuals regularly visited the regional boards.

Why don't we just watch the results of the poll. If both are close, there's really no way to tell, but if one is ahead by a lot, there's no questioning it.

Though it will accomplish nothing, I'm still interested to see the exact numbers

I don't understand how you can possibly use the result of this poll as an argument for what TO's should run in tourneys when you specifically instruct people to disregard what they want to play in tourneys when voting.

The fact of the matter is that Brawl tourneys completely overwhelm Melee tourneys in attendance. UCLA had nearly 200 people for Brawl last weekend, a number that no Melee UCLA tourney (indeed, hardly even OC's) reached. If that weren't enough, even if I grudgingly accept your false dichotomy of "Melee or Brawl," Melee and Brawl tourneys have been held on the same day, and Brawl as far as I know has always won.

The player doesn't decide what game would be ran at a tournament if only one game could be run. In some cases, people would rather play Melee competitively, but they play at a Brawl tourney because they have no other choice.

Plus, there are people who play Brawl that have never played Melee competitively. More attendance only proves that.

Still, it is a false dichotomy to say there are only two answers to "what I play at tourneys." There is nothing stopping people from playing both, just on different weekends, or even just finding a tourney where both happen. A few weeks ago at the NCB, we did in fact have both. Brawl's entry was 35 and Melee's 32. In these cases there is no clear way to answer "Melee OR Brawl" because it's not black and white. Your poll is only appropriate for people who EXCLUSIVELY play one or the other, so it can't be used as evidence for the community at large.

Plus, there are people who play Brawl that have never played Melee competitively. More attendance only proves that.
It doesn't prove that at all. That is simply one possible explanation out of many. The fact that Brawl attendance is nearly universally higher can have multiple causes with different degrees of significance.

I like Melee better myself and I'm pretty sure I could've played it last Sunday, but I went to UCLA VI, a purely Brawl tourney on my own accord. Someone even hooked up a Gamecube and started playing Melee after the tournament had ended. I can go to both kinds of tournaments if I want to, and I most likely will despite my strong preference towards Melee. This poll forces us to choose between the two when we could very easily play both.

Good thing this isn't a debate thread.

Wtf are you talking about man? People love the Melee on the side. It's badass.

But yeah, there's just more Brawl than there is Melee.
