I felt this was pretty cool to post etc. because Max is a pretty wonderful guy and it's awesome to have him be very supportive of us.

We should totally try to get more into conact with him to help with production stuff to educate players outside the community about Smash/Melee. :)

I'm gonna try to do that tonight.

This just should totally encourage us to make stuff to help people in general!

I like Max and his videos, however I wish he as a bit more educated on the game itself. Nothing against him personally, but his channel gets a lot of views and whether he likes it or not, he does color a large amount of people opinions about games based on what he talks about and shows. I'm not saying he needs to be a top level player, but from some of the melee vids he was putting up I don't think he knows about any of the techniques that kind of make melee as hype as it is. He obviously knows he is missing something(he has said as much), but it might be prudent for some of our community heads to talk to him. The guy has a lot of clout in the public eye(read youtube) of fighting games.

It'd be nice to have a video showcase of melee that shows some of the advanced techniques that's not a tutorial. Just to get people outside the community interested in playing competitively and show them what smash is all about.

I'm thinking of making a basic Sheik tutorial for beginners, just have to plan stuff out. <_<

I think this might a good time to revisit those advanced how to play videos. You know, updating what needs updating and make them a little more visually appealing. They're over 6 years old after all.

However it is presented, take into account the target audience, especially those on the fence. Chances are everything they've heard up to this point is second hand BS. If you want them to follow along, you'll have to transparently illustrate how Melee, when played at a technical level, is so much fun in the first place.

There's already work being done on a new Advanced How To Play series. No idea when to expect it to be finished though. I also think a video explaining Melee concepts with their traditional FG parallels would do a lot of good in dispelling misconceptions about Melee's classification as a fighting game. It should be targeted more towards people who want to enjoy Melee along with the fighting games they already enjoy as opposed to trying to argue with a bunch of trolls. Basically I think we should try to influence peoples' opinions about Melee without sounding like we are defending it, and certainly not putting it on a pedestal above other games.

You guys are too focused on techniques. What about advanced strategy? Max in the video said he never really understood the high-level metagame of Melee. There's very few videos out that point out strategic decisions and pre-planned spacing and positioning.

The video should be like

"When you see [show close-up footage of Fox drillshining a shield] this in a tournament, you're seeing shield pressure. Shields in smash drain while they're being used, so if they're employed for too long the shield breaks and that player is almost guaranteed to die. Here, the attacking player is trying to bait the shielding player to exit shield at a bad time, or bait him into trying to escape toward a bad position where the attacking player can punish" etc.

Will pretty much be a grocery list of elements within a high-level melee match. "Here one guy's trying to keep the other guy off the stage with option selects" "Here the two guys are playing footsies to exploit their range/surprise the other dude" and so on.

Someone should take a breakdown of a match in a traditional fighter, but instead of putting the commentary over the actual match, they should substitute Melee clips in to where it would seem appropriate. lol
