Matchup Chart Project 2015 - Calling Luigi Mains!

Hello Luigi boards,

I'm Zareidriel. Over in this thread a guy called Assassannerr made a matchup chart, and asked people to help fill it out. It seems like it would be a cool thing to have. With once glance you could have a rough idea of a matchup. It won't be perfect, but for our first go at it in 2015 we're aiming for "somewhat functional."

So here's what I'm going to do. Go to every Character Discussion board, and ask the folks there if they wouldn't mind contributing. To submit one vote, you'll have to fill out one of these:

Mark each character with a + for a match where Luigi HAS THE ADVANTAGE
Mark each character with a - for a match where Luigi HAS THE DISADVANTAGE
Mark each character with a number 0 for a match you feel is very even.

NOTE THAT I AM ONLY TAKING VOTES FROM MEMBERS WITH Luigi IN THEIR PROFILE BAR. It can be as either "Wii U Main" or "3DS Main". But if Luigi is in neither one of those slots when I count the votes on Friday, Nov 13, it won't be counted.

(Yes, for the avid democrats out there, that means you can vote for one other character as well.)

Like I said, they won't be perfect, and each board will probably be a little biased toward their own respective character. But the results should be interesting regardless.

If this thing is successful maybe we'll do a revised version in 2016.

Assuming Miis can pick their specials, Gunner is definitely a - matchup. They have more reliable spacing projectiles than Samus (grenades and fair cover both grounded and aerial approaches) and hitboxes that aren't as wonky in general. I'm not sure if there's any other character that can wall Luigi out as hard as Gunner can.

Swordfighter should be a + but I haven't played the matchup or even seen it before so I can't really say for certain.

Taking Yonder's list (which is very good) the only changes I'd do would be Gunner (to a definite -) and Marth, Cpt Falcon and Roy to a +. Those characters are very susceptible to cyclone gimping as soon as they're offstage and sent far enough that they can't get back using their jump alone. I've had games against players that I felt were definitely more skilled than me that I should've lost, but won just because of cyclone destroying their character pick's upB recovery.

Note that the scene where I live is most likely nowhere near as good as the US' so my opinions might not extrapolate properly, just thought I'd try to contribute what I could.

(These matchup opinions are based on how exploitable butterfeet is to disjointed/heavy attacks, how easy they can combo weegee, how easy weegee can combo them, and whether or not they beat out weegee's neutral options. Some of the match ups are put as 0 due to a lack of extensive knowledge on the matchup.)

Awesome, hopefully this stirs up some nice debate in our matchup thread!

It's really interesting to see how close our opinion are as Luigi mains on these matchups in a very quick nutshell. There's very little discrepancy, with maybe 2 different opinions out of 5 for each matchup. It's not a ton of verdicts but still, it's cool.

Then again, the whole chart might get skewed if Monkeyarms voted, I know his views on matchups are completely radical to everyone elses...[Ganondorf stomping Luigi for example, who I think is Luigi's best matchup]

I have no experience against the Miis, so I can't say much about them.
