It's good to learn which pikmin does what throw. He has two pikmin with throws that can kill. Purple pikmin can Uthrow to kill and the blue one can back throw to kill. It's a good idea to learn which color will do what throw so you can DI as well as possible.

Edit: Also, after you play enough Olimar you can distinguish between his grab animation and his smash animation. It really helps you get a level head and a plan once you can tell what is going on.

I think it's 60-40 to 65-35 Marth. He's got too many options in every situation. If our shield is worn down AT ALL, one downwards DB will pierce it. You can DB every time we land, DB to rack, and even DB to kill. It's annoying. One of our hardest matchups.

Pivotgrabbing and throwing purple pikmin work well as defensive, spacing weapons until the Marth realizes that he can be patient and wait until Oli gets backed into a corner.

hmph I've been fighting and increasing amount of marths with my olimar, I cant really rely on camping against marth so I usually go offensive now in this match, Marth range with his sword is something that makes it harder for me to grab him with my olimar. An offensive Olimar is just as hard as a safe happy campy one, spacing is a must. Once you get Olimar off the stage its time tp gimp, just dont get hit by a Fair if the olimar is close to the edge while you edgehog, I've gotten a few kills because of this. Overall I say ethir 45-55 or 40-60, marth in has the advantage. Just dont play to risky

why dont you play evasive and pivot grab once he lands?

or you know, wait for him to get in the air and run up and spam usmash.

or you know, spam in general...
well if those things worked all the time it would be advantage olimar, if marth sees you backing off waiting for him to land he could just DJ backwards and avoid the grab, and his Fair will outprioritize your Usmash and its faster, you don't have time to run in between Double Fairs.

oli's shield is great, you're dumb xP
marth can do a wall of fair and never really get touched
FH fair to a retreating fair to DB will most likely **** any oli.
oli can shield through the entirety of DB, even the down one, and retaliate anyway he wants OoS

i say 60-40 to MAYBE 65-35
i played mikeHAZE a lot this weekend and they were all close matches as long as i avoided a dumb gimp.

is there a certain direction you aim your shield? cuz everytime i shield DB i end up getting shield stabbed every time.

i actually never point my shield when dealing with DB
oli's shield is just that good
plus you can roll behind after the first 2 slashes of DB and jab him

Oh man, i hate fighting Olimar's... until you get them off the ledge it's increadibly annoying. Just be sure to keep an eye on which types of moves he's using, whether it's the Side B or the Side Smash. It's quite bothersome that Marth is all about spacing and a lot of Olimar's moves can just barely outrange his. But yeah, like stated before aerial approaches are always nice. And remember when you're gimping olimar that although he won't latch onto the stage he can still hit you with his up-b for a little bit of knockback so if he does be ready to jump back on and watch him fall to his death.
