I've wanted Impa as a clone of or replacement for Sheik since Skyward Sword, and I think she has a pretty good chance of being a Sheik echo. And if they used her Skyward Sword design, we would have representation from every 3D Zelda game!

Except Twilight Princess, which is fine.
They could choose the Hyrule Warriors Impa too, though she would be weird without the sword... Unless they make her an Impa/sword fighter mix echo. That would be cool. But I like Skyward Sword Impa more, that design is just too good.

Not really related, but we haven't seen Sheik's Final Smash yet, right?

So, this is the first time I'm posting on Smashboards. I've been a long time player since the 64 days and have stayed on maining Zelda since Melee. Skull Kid has been one of my most wanted characters for the longest time; dating back to post-Brawl, and it shattered me to see him as an Assist Trophy in Smash for 3DS and Wii U. With his absence in Ultimate so far, and with the Moon appearing as a new Assist (along with the return of Great Bay) - I wanted to present my few findings on why I think he's a contender for Ultimate. One of these do mention a leak, so take that as you will; but the rest are genuine thoughts.

- He's currently absent from the many Assist Trophies shown off since the game's reveal at E3, even with returning trophies being shown off; albeit them being wanted fighters (e.g Waluigi, Lyn, Ashley, etc). The same can be said for Shovel Knight and Bomberman; albeit new assists, they've been desired as fighters too - but have been assigned the role of assist trophies.

- Dark Samus had left her position as an Assist Trophy to become Samus' very own Echo Fighter.

- The Moon (as of 8.8.18's Direct) has been revealed as an Assist Trophy for the Legend of Zelda series, alongside Midna
from E3; another wanted fighter who didn't make the cut.

- They've been highlighting the return of the Great Bay stage quite a bit in the footage they've shown off SSBU the past few times.

- Skull Kid was also a Mii Costume (among the likes of K.Rool and Chrom who reached enough popularity and demand to become fighters). Of course, Ashley was a part of these, but lo and behold, she got stuck as an Assist. Geno himself is yet to be seen, and with the Rathalos being introduced as a boss and assist - and Monster Hunter having Mii costumes last game...well, who knows?

- All these newcomer trailers have had a subtle (in the Belmonts' case, not-so-subtle) tone of darkness to them, with veterans getting brutalised in a number of ways (Ridley impaling Mario; Death from Castlevania reaping Luigi's soul, etc). There's a certain title in the Zelda series that can fit this strange sense of macabre atmosphere; and it's Majora's Mask, so if we have the possessed Skull Kid taking out Young Link in an upcoming trailer, it won't be out of place.

- Young Link is back. His artwork on the Smash painting has since been moved with the addition of yesterday's new characters; but whom exactly is he focusing his vertical slash on? His eyes seem to be focused somewhere else. This isn't super important, but I thought it was worth noting.

- Whether it's a lucky guess or an accurate leak, user 'Loz18' was directly on the money about K.Rool's trailer following a cutscene script of 'Heroes VS. Villains' and has also claimed that he knows of two more newcomers, one strongly implied to be Skull Kid himself. He's among a few of the 'leakers' who have been pretty good with their information; having called what the Direct last night had shown off. (But really, anyone can take shots and speculate...)

- Going back to the Moon being an assist trophy, people may wonder what Skull Kid's FS would be. There are a good number of cutscene related Final Smash moves this time around, and it would seem rather fitting that Skull Kid would have a transformation scene involving the mask taking complete control and becoming Majora's Wrath for the duration of that cutscene/attack. Young Link's FS hasn't been seen yet either; and with Link now using the Guardian Arrow, and Toon Link keeping the Triforce Slash, could we have a cutscene-centric Fierce Deity transformation and attack for the little Kokiri boy?

As of writing, there's technically NO representation for Majora's Mask yet, in terms of characters (sans music tracks, the Great Bay stage and the Bunny Hood). Young Link and Ganondorf represent Ocarina of Time (although Young Link could be argued...); Link and Sheik now represent Breath of the Wild and Zelda now dons her A Link to the Past attire. Skull Kid could change that, and perhaps give Young Link an alternate where he swaps his Deku Shield out for the Hero Shield bearing the Termina insignia. There has been talk of alternate costumes (with Mario having two and Ridley having his Meta form although it hasn't been selectable in current playable builds) - so I don't see why a shield swap would be so hard.

I hope that wasn't too much to dig through. Hopefully some people find some reason in all of that. Consider me a supporter for our possessed imp friend.
Not bad, not bad at all.

Thank you for not mentioning furniture :p

Not really related, but we haven't seen Sheik's Final Smash yet, right?
It was in the demo, it's a flurry of strikes with what I believe is a kunai. It has a Sheikah symbol on the final blow.

I'm really hoping the Astral Observatory theme is in this game.

I support on principle alone because Majora's Mask is my favorite 3D Zelda game and Young Link is disappointingly based on his OoT self rather than MM, but also because Skull Kid is an interesting character!
However, to be honest, I support more for his reveal trailer than actually playing as him lol, given just how well made the trailers have been so far and how they capture the character tones and personality, I just know Skull Kids' hypothetical one is gonna be amazing. He's unique and great to me more for the atmosphere he sets and his way of carrying himself than fighting ability.

I still need to get out there and buy a copy of Majora's Mask 3D. I have been trying to get the game at a discounted price online, but had no luck. :l
I'm hoping they do a Switch collection of all the games they've remade, because I want to play MM again, but I just can't bring myself to look at the 3DS screen anymore. And MM3D was a really good remake!

Unfortunately I lost my copy of the 3D game in a move and was devastated when I realized I couldn't find it. I'm planning on buying it digitally in October for Halloween.

Also I added a link to the Impa thread in the first page

Question, how would everyone feel if we formed an alliance with the Impa support group. Really both should be in and most agree that Skull Kid would be unique and Impa an echo.

I don't know what this means but they seem up for it!
A good idea! I also see a lot of Geno fans alliancing with Skullkid on gamefaqs now that K Rool and Ridley are playable.

I have it on my 3DS. In fact, I started a new playthrough yesterday after reading the "leak" mentioning Skill Kud. I haven't done much yet, though. So many games '~'

I've never been a Geno supporter (neutral to opposed, depending on how I'm feeling), but I honestly think we're getting him this time, and that he'll be the last big reveal before the game comes out. With ballot picks clearly being chosen this time around, and with them already having a partnership with Square Enix though Cloud, and the Mii costume, I think he's in for sure this time. Hell, I hope so for his fans' sakes. They've waited long enough. And it would be a lot of fun to see the interaction between him and our masked boy!

Would you prefer Geno and Skull Kid get seperate reveal trailers or do you think showing them together as a double reveal would be more awesome?

I agree with this. The reveal trailer is just as important because its like the character's first impression. The worst is to be turned off from the character. It'd be weird playing as a badass Skull Kid but trailer was poorly done. Don't give him a trailer at all in that case.

I think Geno has to get his own. A double event would either overshadow the person who's not Geno, or steal Geno's thunder, which are both bad options. I think we get Skull Kid next time, maybe one more in between, and Geno last. Skull Kid can probably feature in Geno's trailer just for the puppet/puppeteer joke, but I bet someone as important to the community as Geno will have his own trailer.

Sigh

I really don't want Geno. I think he's the epitome of bad idea.

As a Mario character, I feel he's a bad choice
As a Square Enix character, I feel he's an absolutely awful choice.

Skull Kid may only really be important in Majora's Mask, but at least he shows up in other games too. Including the spin-off games. Something Geno has never bothered to do, even when Square was making it.

And Majora's Mask is a far more notable game in gaming culture than Super Mario RPG. The game didn't even release in Europe or Australia until the Wii.

I just wish people would stop associating the two. I've said I'd be OK with anyone if I got Skull Kid, but I still wouldn't exactly be happy about a pick like Geno and the way people severely overrate.

The most recent direct suggested Square is going to be as stingy as always and U can't see them ever wanting him in Smash when they have franchises like Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider, Crono and secret of mana, something Sakurai has said is a necessity.

I'm just really tired of this absurd obnoxious overrating of such an insignificant characters chances.

Anyway, went to the old Brawl topic, man I'm glad I wasn't for those times.

I'd love it if we got both Skull Kid and Impa. If Impa got her Skyward Sword appearance I'd be fine with it but, I prefer her Ocarina of Time appearance.

Unless I'm forgetting something, we never got any double reveal trailers for Smash 4 (not counting E3s, which were in separate trailers anyway) unless they were from the same franchise like Lucina and Robin. Plus, the connections between Geno and Skull Kid are flimsy. If Skull Kid gets revealed alongside anyone else, it'll be another Zelda character.

In regards to music and there being 3 zelda tracks hidden.
Remember the second ending credits theme done specifically for the MM3d remake? It flows into many popular Mm themes. Something like this would awesome!

This sounds gorgeous. I forgot how much I love Majora's Mask.

We need some songs besides Termina in!

I’ve definitely wanted Skull Kid in for a while, but I kinda assumed he’d never get in. But I saw a pic that was probably major straw grasping but my excitement at the possibility is really high. If he gets to be playable I probably will go nuts lol

Geno is not a bad idea, though it is fine to not want a particular peep in the game. A bad idea is a Xenoblade 2 character.

If Skull Kid is revealed at all and his reveal is in October, my answer is no, because I believe the end of King K. Rool's trailer is a perfect set up for Dixie. So Dixie's trailer would play at the beginning, and Skull Kid's at the end. If Dixie is not playable and Geno is, then I think having a direct revealing two puppet-like fighters would be kinda cool.

So I thought I would just put this idea for a Skull Kid trailer out there.

The trailer opens in a deep dark forest, the camera would then focus on a new echo fighter Impa fighting someone.

*Impa Splash Effect*

The camera would turn around slowly, before out of the darkness Majora's Mask comes into sight first, with Skull Kid seen wearing. Skull Kid does his iconic laugh.

*Skull Kid Splash Effect*

A remix of Skull Kid's final boss music would play, while showing off the move set for both Impa and Skull Kid (Including Final Smashes).

The trailer would end with Skull Kid Taunting with Tatl and Tael floating around him. The screen would then fade to black

I was thinking what Skull Kid's trailer might look like.

I was thinking you'd see Young Link fighting different Smash Bros characters (can be anyone) and Young Link notices everything around him get darker (kind of like with the Inkling announcement). Young Link hears a very familiar noise. It gets louder.... and louder... and LOUDER. As Young Link turns around he starts to hear giggling. Out of the darkness Majora's Mask appears with Skull Kid then emerging followed by the Splash Screen.

He can fight Ness.... and then Ness gets pulled into said darkness and get's heckin slayed by Skull Kid, maybe even turned into some freaky soul-less marionette thing. Gotta keep that body count up lmao xD

If Skull Kid is in the game I'm betting his Final Smash is telporting everyone to the Termina clock tower... and then MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

And before you bring up the assist trophy, Rikki is in Shulk's as well as being an assist trophy.

We're all in agreement that his splash page should be

"Skull Kid Brings the House Down!"

right

No. "Skull Kid brings a terrible fate" is better and is a nice nod to a certain quote from the game.

Considering Richter makes a reference to his infamous and famous "Die, monster! You don't belong in this world" quote, it wouldn't surprise me if they reference the Happy Mask Salesman's quote in Skull Kid's trailer/splash picture. They could also pick one of his quotes, too.

I feel as though Skull Kid is very likely to be in the game. He is definitely my top pick right now. He is also a very slept on character. I believe this because not too many people have talked about him lately. After the last direct, his chances have only increased with the moon becoming an assist, replacing Skull Kid as the assist rep for MM. He did very well in the ballot and could have a moveset that shares few similarities with any fighter. ZeRo was even saying last night on stream that he thinks Skull Kid will be in the next reveal. This is the best shot he has ever had at getting into smash. Majora's Wrath would also be a sick final smash.

I've wanted Skull Kid playable in Smash for over a decade and seeing all the revelations of the past week have made me hopeful for his inclusion. By no means do I think he's definitely in but I have more hope now than I've ever had for him.

I was thinking his splash quote could have something like "unmasks" in it somewhere, but "brings a terrible fate" is wonderful too.

If we're talking trailers, they've gotta include Young Link's Final Smash (presumably Fierce Deity at this point). Assuming Skull Kid's FS is Majora's Wrath, the two of them squaring off is too good to pass up.

During all these years it was really difficult to choice which tloz character I'd like to see as newcomer in smash, now I understand that the best choice for me is Skull Kid indeed (granted, I'd like Urbosa with thunder moves too)

Even if now it's a bit late, count me as supporter too!

Okay I really want him in too but uh

Isn't that a little extreme?
Maybe, but with all of the evidence he has going for him makes me believe. I also did some research last night and found out, each Zelda assist trophy is from a different title, now this is small but if skull kid was still a assist don't you think they would chose another title in the series to keep this assist trophy representation thing? this is not the best evidence and is a rule that could be broken, but if Sakurai is looking to represent the Zelda series as a whole he could've chosen a different one from a different game in Zelda and it would be redundant to have two MM assists when there's other zelda games to pull from, I am confident that the moon is replacing him similar to how knuckles is replacing shadow.

I like this, I'm into this, bring it on!!

So far the Zelda representation is all over the map, all over history, and the 3D games each having their own rep would be astounding! Well... So far we don't have anything for Twilight Princess, which is hilarious since two Smashes straight had four characters in TP style... so, I'm okay with dropping Twilight Princess for now in favor of literally every other 3D Zelda. OoT has three-ish reps with Ganondorf, Young Link, and Sheik, WW has Toon Link, and Breath of the Wild has regular Link (and sorta Sheik... but nah, I wouldn't count that). Zelda reps the 2D top-down games, LBW, LttP, Spirit Tracks. and so that leaves us with Majora's Mask and Skyward Sword that have yet to be repped in Smash bros with a playable character... soooo!

Skull Kid. Majora's Mask 3D just released prior to Sakurai's design documents for Ultimate, and likely the character roster. Which is great timing, and I know he's a popular character too and probably did great on the ballot (with MM3D releasing around the time of the ballot, fresh on the minds too). And the cool thing about Skull Kid, is that he actually has three games to borrow from. Coming from OoT, he could bring in a flute, maybe skull mask, or his other friends. From Twilight Princess, he could bring in his puppet pals... creepy thing could be used for a fun attack after the Skull Kid blows a horn full of leaves... But of course, the main rep here will most obviously be Majora's Mask, with his appearance hopefully based on it wearing said mask. And Majora then all of a sudden becomes the main player here, hopefully with some sick and sadistic attacks pulled from MM... Chief among them, Majora's Wrath as his final Smash! And heck, we still haven't seen Young Link's Final Smash, maybe he too could give us some more MM representation with that too.

As for Skyward Sword. Well, I think Skull Kid's announcement could easily be packaged with a few Echoes, one of which should be Impa, Skyward Sword style, as an Echo of Sheik. Which to me would be perfect. And then we'd have the ultimate 3D Zelda lineup in store for this game. Sorry Twilight Princess, heh.

Midna with Wolf Link would have been a great fighter to represent Twilight Princess, but Link, Toon Link, Young Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Sheik, Skull and Impa, plus Midna/Wolf Link... That would be too much, for me anyways. Poor Midna lost her chance, but hopefully we get Skull Kid.
