for the sake of this thread, MvC2 is alot like melee in that..many n00bs think that they're good, but actually have no idea of the advanced tricks, terminology, and indeph skills involved at proffessional play. Please take into consideration that you actually may just suck at this game, and not know it =D.

For a quicky reference for people not farmiliar w/ that sorta stuff, there is a tier list.

Top Tier: Storm, Sentinel, Cable, Maneto(pretty much NOT debatable)

Some of the less arguable Upper characters of the High Tier: IronMan, Dr.Doom, Psylock, Rouge, Tron-bonne, Cyclops, Blackheart....cont. on and on...w/ moreso debatable orders.

Top Tier Assists: Tronbonne(Projectile), Psylock(antiair), Dr.Doom(antiair), Commando(antiair)
And with any fighting game, you have charactes who are below the mid point, and otherwise known as "bad characters" such as Zangief, ShumaGorath, and Roll.

There are a few main team strategies.

RushDowns: magneto, Storm, etc.
Involves usually aerial dashes diagonally into grounded oponents w/ unfinished blocked combos, and triangle jumping to other side, and sometimes incompletely as to trick them into blocking the wrong way. Spamming assist usually that trip the oponent, such as Psylock to overwhelm them w/ aerial and low attacks at the same time, since its nearly impossible to block.

Campers: Cable, Spiral Iceman, Megaman, etc.
Usually accompanied w/ another projectile assist or full ranged anti to protect them overhead. Commonly Dr.doom's rocks, Sentinel's Rockets, or commando's antiair. Continuously running and jumping away while projectiling and desynching their attacks w/ assist projectiles to force the oponent into a turtled position for chip, until they can find an opportunity to jump out(which usually ends up w/ them getting shot out of the air)

CrossOver Teams: Rouge + Tronbonne's projectile, Storm + Akuma's antiair(lame example actually), etc.
Ground assisting(tron's "projectile" satelite attack) while short jumping and airdashing over the oponent's head and attack from the other side while falling to the ground. This particular situation causes the oponent to be knocked back and forth between the 2 for insane damage. Difficult to block, as well.

TrapTeams: Strider + Doom, etc.
Strider opens is super where the droids rotate around his body, you run up and begin hitting the oponent, building up more super.......right before it ends, you make dr.doom come out and hold the oponent 2 more seconds w/ rocks....during this time, you pull out the rotating-droid super again and start comboing them again before they can leave the ground and continue to build up more and more super...right as it ends...Dr.Doom' s assist again, etc.
Even if the oponent is blocking this the entire time..it matters not...its a semi-infinite loop of chip damage that they can't break away from. Very fun to watch, lmao.

and then u have "balanced teams" a projectiler, a close range fighter, and a speedy character.
Sadly, these teams don't work against the above mention. =)
especially if your using mid-low tier characters.

Now that that is out of the way...here are the characters I play mostly

Spiderman, Collosus, Blackheart, Dr.Doom, Ken, RubyHeart, Dhalsim, Venom.
In my city, i'm mostly famous for the first 3.
Currently, for the first time really playing, i'm going to learn Iceman(this shouldn't really take too long, lol)
i'll BS w/ other characters occasoinally, but for the most part, i just play as characters that are my favorites. You get more respect in style that way anyway, but if someone challenges me and beats my low tier teams w/ Storm, Sentinel, and Cable...their GOING to fight Blackheart + Dr.Doom and get projectiled to death, which i really don't like doing, but they asked for it, by picking on Dhalsim and Venon, lmao. XD

I know this info, I'm not that n00bish at the game. And I'm sure everybody else isn't.

I am going to EVO. And if you know about Marvel, you'll know thats the best tourneys ever.

I wanna play Justin Wong there.

I play Storm A, Sent A or R, Psy A. Occasionally I play Mag A, Sent R, CapCom B.
I like team Combofiend alot. Then there is MSP and MSS which I also use.

i see you like low tiers, throw in Sent in 1 of those groups and watch sparks fly.
You just reminded me of my old team, Mag A, Storm A, SM B.
I even had an infinite with SM.

I'm am the 5th best at my local Arcade, and if i get my PS2 fixed i can play at home again.

Quick question, do you know any good Dhalsim combos?
I find him so hard to control.

Haha, atleast we dont have to spam the other thread now XD

Not all SF suck Zenith, Kens antiair is awesome and Akuma is a good stand alone fighter.

Dont flame me if I sound like a noob, but I have played many other people who dont suck.

Whens EVO?

If you register online now its $30. But if you go and pay at EVO it will $45. Plus $10 for each tourney you want to enter. You don't have to play in the tourney you can hang in the Bring your own Console (BYOC) lounge. Itz 2 WHOLE DAYS, so you will never be bored.

They have the following games:
Capcom vs SNK 2
Marvel vs Capcom 2
SF 3rd Strike
SF 2 (I think)
Mario Kart DS (Confusing)
Guilty Gear XX Slash

Iceman?

I haven't seen any high level play of him.
The best to think of it is that, ALL OF THE TOP TIER IS MARVEL.
So ppl who play Capcom chars all the time are slow and can't rushdown.

The only low tier I know of that could hold a good rushdown is Hayato w/ a Sentinal R assist.
I've resetted so many combos with them. But it is hard to fight a rushdown w/ Hayato, almost impossible.
Hayato is like the only low tier I actually like besides Gambit. Gambit's infinite = CHEAPNESS

JTB: Ken is s*** on expansion (I prefer) with Sentinal.
It's funny to watch someone come up to attack a floating Sentinal like Magneto and end up getting wheel kicked by Ken.
Bison also kick a**, and he too works good with Sentinal.
Don't forget Sentinal is the best character in the game, so if you throw him in any team itz automatically good.

Storm A, Sentinal R, Hayato B = Ultimate rushdown

Well, there is a certain technique that people use that involves a Marvel and a Capcom character.....might be Strider and Dr. Doom.....ring a bell?

I only play Strider in MvC1. And in MvC1 I'm the king at my local arcade.

I know this JTB. Itz just that when I compare getting rushed down by a Mag playing Sent, I can survive, but when getting rushed down by a Mag playing CapCom, itz a whole different story.
I know a Marvel & a Capcom player can work well.
Cause I have knowledge of Team Scrub & Team Santhrax.

If Sanford were to read this thread he'd say "You guys are fagets when it comes to Marvel"!

"Please take into consideration that you actually may just suck at this game, and not know it =D."

ah, very sorry..i did not mean for that to be interpreted towards you, Zenith. I was trying to just keep it as a wall to scare awway n00bs from this thread.
Take...TODAY for instance, one of the casual arcade n00bs, who thinks he's awesome w/ Jin, and fills the rest of his roster w/ characters who don't require technical combos for high damage(blackheart, juggernaught, etc)....everyday he always shocks me w/ his NEW information on the game, like i don't know sh*t already.
Today, he told me the ultimate 2 characters together are sentinel and blackheart. And he told me that he went on shoryuken.com and told everyone that Jin's anti air is the best for sentinel. Then he told me that people were arguing w/ him, and that they just didn't understand Jin enough. I try to carefully explain that jin's antiair isn't near top tier, because it can't be comboed off of like others..but he goes "no man, actually you can combo off of it"
and list some lame example like catching them w/ an aerial hyper viper afterward....and its at that point, where i just gave up...

I use Sentinal, Storm and Akuma. Akuma isnt big in competitve play, but he has tons of chain combos with that lightning spin kick. Storm is my speed, she is an air combo beast. Sentinal is my heavy hitter, his rocket punch almost hits as hard as some specials and he just doesnt die.

I used to play this game but judging by a lot of the footage I've seen and the matches I've played, it's much too broken for my taste. It's kinda sad to know that only a small fraction of the cast is useable at high level play. As a result, I only play this game for fun and not competitively.

i agree, thats exactly why i dont play as much as i used to......you are forced to be the top tier characters in order to do damage at a tourney.

well....we have a code of honor at my arcade.
If your oponent is using a low or mid tier team, or using only 1 high tier...you don't overwhelm them w/ high/top tiers.
But as an accepted rule that i made, if the oponent racks 5 wins in a row, than you are allowed to be as cheesey as you want. But if they top tier-ish team wins...all oponents can be as cheesey as they want back, etc. But if they lose to a mid tier team, you can't be cheesey until after 5 wins.

Its a reward system for being kickass w/ the non hightiers. Something i boast myself in =)

At the moment, i've been doing some serious owning w/ venom on almost all my teams.

At least you can still find ways to enjoy the game. I think that agreeing to use non-broken characters makes fighting games a lot more enjoyable.

Well itz official guys, my new best team is Team Cyntrax.

I've been in Vegas for the past 3 days and I played SOOO many Marvel players, some n00bs, some not.

I can tell you this much tho, I am temporarely retired from Magneto, until I can do his infinites on an arcade stick. I play Storm instead.
My Storm's tech is awesome, I rarely get hit.

My favorite thing to do is pull in a Sentinal R assist and grab em if they block. So many ppl fall for it.
My cable is somewhat solid, although I pull out Sentinal's R assist too much.
Just try to rushdown my Cable.

Yesterday, I set a high score of 2,000,000,000 at my arcade.
Too bad since the scores get reset everyday since they turn the machines off.
And I did it with Team Cyntrax (Cable cheapness).

Does anyone here know some good infinites or resets?
No1 is yet to mention any of those.

You either have to go to arcades or go to wherever they might be hosting a tournament. SRK might have that kind of information.

I just saw that youtube video and for the Charlie infinite, I wonder how the hell he did those sonic booms so fast. I don't remember charge times being that short. =\

Yeah, that's what I was wondering too. I'm not sure about that because I haven't seen too many matches that use him. But I can understand why he might be high up there because he has really annoying keep away tactics that can force the opponent to take lots of block damage.

I play strider/doom/ironman

Obviously when playing at tournies and stuff I'll go MSP instead of the aformentioned team (I don't like sentinel even though he seems so crucial, I'm a combo *****).

I quit this game a while back when it became really easy (Infinite setups, guardcrushes, etc; also all arcades that had MVC2 went out.)

If you reached the level that I got to its all mindgames from there (A reason why Jason Wong is so strong in the MVC scene)

It's Justin Wong. Not Jason. But yeah, if you don't pick at least 2 god tier characters in your team, all the mind games in the world aren't going to help you.

Also, from going to many tournies and seeing many fights and looking at many stats......if u do not pick 2 of the 3 charatcers listed below....you shouldnt compete in tournies

Sentinal
Magneto
Storm
Cable
Psylock
IronMan
IceMan

its the truth.
uhh captian commando? he is used a lot more then most of those people listed, his captain corridor asist *****.

Maybe above IronMan and Iceman. But the other characters probably see about the same amount of usage overall.

Team's Scrub and Santhrax use Capcom's assist. While rushdown and mixup charcters will use someone like Psylocke. Or to a lesser extent, Tron. But you see her a lot less compared to either Capcom or Psylocke assists.

Yeah, it's similar to like... picking link versus shiek.
No way. Link vs Shiek, at least Link can compete. It's hard sure, but it would be *NOWHERE* near fustraiting compared to a lower teir agianst a god teir in Marvel2.

commando is only good as an assist only.......

he is horrible as a fighter. i think psylock is far better....setting up mag for his infinit or cable for his 3X HVB.

Commando's assist isn't very good either... it comes out and he has an INSANE delay.
