Marth's DownSmash

After playing around in training mode for a while, I noticed the incredible amount of power this attack has. It has great celing KO ing potential against Floaties like Peach, which will kill her in the 70 - 80% mark and rest happy Jiggs, who will die around 40% from a fully charged Dsmash. It even kills Marth around 80+

There is one problem though, the spacing required is extremely refined to get the "perfect" tipper. This may cause confusion as 2 of the hitboxes in the Dsmash make the same sound, while one is a lot more powerful than the other. It requires the same spacing as a tipped dtilt, which is just less than the Fsmash.

Another problem would be the low shieldstun. Prepare to get owned if you miss/hit the shield. It does, however, hit low on the shield and shieldspikes pretty well.
Lag is the major issue with this move is the duration and cooldown time. It has a very low startup lag to make up for that though. I think it's the same as the dtilt.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is to find out what setups I can use to combo into the dsmash. I have 2 so far, the first being a mid/weak hit fair (depending on %) to dsmash (or Fsmash, depending on DI) which is inescapable either way, just that the Fsmash can be DI'd at 80% but the Dsmash is a guaranteed kill. Then there's the Dtilt to Dsmash, only for people who like to DI towards you. This works a lot better when your opponent is off the stage though. Much like the dash attack.

If you are good at tech chasing or following rolls/spotdodges, you can nail these pretty often. M2K used to use this a lot more, but Marth doesn't really need to kill off the top. His edgeguard game = teh awesome.

I actually use Dsmash every once in a while, but is it just me or is the range small? I can't seem to hit too much with it. After I spot dodge, I like Dsmashing depending on what my opponent is doing.

i use it occasionally with techchasing against certain characters. It actually has pretty good range (seems pretty close to the range of dtilt). But the cooldown lag is what really keeps me from using it more.

Marth's DSmash is actually 5 frames, making it two frames faster than his DTilt. It's only beaten by his jab and his FAir in speed. However, the second hit ends on frame 22, and the animation ends at frame 64, making the ending lag 2/3 of a second. Useful to respond with, but very risky to miss/hit a shield with.

I usually have trouble killing peaches, its probably my worst match up cause I don't play cort/lil enough *only peaches in CT that re note worthy aside from V* so when I play them I'm in a state of shock and confusion. lolololol

anyway to what I was saying I down smashed V's peach and it died.

so if they're really high in percents bam.

what i love the most is to tip a returning samus who missed the sweetspot. Charge the down smash and tipper her. You have a big chance of getting an early kill (early talking about samus of course).

I have even killed the fast fallers in high % with a well sweetspotted downsmash.

This thing kills, sadly is too laggy.

DSmash as an edgeguard... I might use that sometime. I had felt that it was too laggy to be put to use, but as an edgeguard it seems great, especially since any opponent expecting the FSmash would DI upward.

D-smash is a pretty fast attack, and it's useful as a surprise attack or when you can guess where someone is going to roll. Tipped sends them upwards, up close sends them off to the side.

yea it is a good attack, but i would rather fsmash or counter.

and edge guarding just down tilt because if u miss the lag will let them get back on the stage

hey, I use Dsmash a lot hahaha, most are mind games, I dont like to finish combos with it since the killing tipper is really hard to get, and the Fsmash tipper is eassier
here Ive got a video o me playing, I think I land all my Dsmashes, and my oponent wasn't noob at all, he ate my mindgames of techchasing, or waiting for him to get onto the stage.
