Marth vs Fox

So, uh, what exactly should I be doing here? Falco I can deal with, I can even deal with ****ing Sheik, but as soon as Fox is on the stage it's over for me. Basically, I try to DD camp and space out fairs, dtilts, etc, but I always end up getting grabbed, shined, comboed, etc.

Basically, I'd just like if someone could give me some approach tips, since that is where my game is really suffering. Also, recovery I guess, but I can figure that one out on my own more easily.

You don't have to actually approach, but just make the Fox feel your pressure (with DD, dtilts and Nair/Fair well spaced), and make him commit.

Then you grab him.

I've been reviewing my game, and compared to good players I don't really punish from grabs enough. Also I guess I commit too soon and stuff like that. Thanks for the help guys.

Just make sure when you DO commit, overshoot your approaches. The last thing you want to do is whiff right in front of him.

yeah the biggest part of this matchup is applying pressure as OverLord said with dashdance, dtilt, well spaced fair & nair. when you apply pressure you increase the chance of your opponent to make a mistake, creating an opening for you to start a combo/grab.

as fox i dont feel pressure when some noob marth starts dash dancing in front of me

this guys gonna go out and start randomly dash dancing in front of a bunch of foxes ROFL

u should be getting a grab. the hard part is setting up for that grab, and to learn how to do this, just play with marth a lot and know his moves

also if they jump near ledges u dont even need grabs

We assume he's not gonna do it randomly.

I guess he has a brain, right..?

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

have u ever played melee with other people before?

even smart people can be clueless on how to play the game

if u read op and think he understand the matchup AT ALL then u must be dumb as ***

im gonna go ahead and not make the assumption, seeing as he sounds like he doesnt really understand the game yet

but go ahead and assume, and by doing that, give him potentially bad advice. w/e

LOL

Telling him how he is supposed to play the match-up in current metagame is nowhere a bad advice.

I treat people with respect, so I give the best advices I can, assuming I got in front of me a person who knows how to use his brain.

Learn a bit of humbleness man.

You are assuming he is a noob without even ever played a match against him. That's not paying respect.

He could probably be better than you think, but maybe he plays often against players on a higher level, that make him have problems in some match-ups.

I can't manage to know the exact skill level of all the smashers in here, so I'll just answer their questions the best way I can, and if they still got problem, they'll come back and ask more, maybe with a more particular or specific question about their problems.

He asked for advices about approaching Fox, and we all answered what we think are the best options he got as Marth. If he can manage to take advantage out of pressure and dashdancing, and get the most out of a grab, he will probably get way better in the match-up.

Against Fox, grabbing is your best friend. Learn how to 0-Death CG and gimp using fair, dair, and dtilt.
