From the Marth boards:

Anyway, the Ness and Lucas match-ups will be changed. Marth has an infinite on both of them which is good for damage racking and setting up for a kill at higher percents.

The infinite is just grabbing them and hitting them till they get out then re-grab and repeat the process.
I'm looking around now for any post preceding Emblem Lord's of vid evidence or someone else's corroboration.

You can, apparently, escape by jumping rather than the normal input spam. However you will get nabbed by an aerial, most likely.

Thought I should tell everyone (in the Ness boards. . .).

If the Marth is constantly grab attacking you, it becomes impossible to break out by jumping out.

Dtilt? I dunno, I've never played anyone who knew how to do this.

And from what Ive experienced, I can escape pummels with a jump. If you do jumo out, try to airdodge and maybe that'll avoid the aerial.

If we cant jumo out, just hope he takes an accidental break between the pummeling to let you escape aerially. Or if not, try dtilting before he can re-grab you.

It's not impossible to escape, period. If you jump break, you will escape 100% of the time, I've never seen it fail. The problem is, you can't make it happen on purpose, as far as we know.

People thought this was an infinite before they remembered that you can jump out of grabs instead of slide out.

I thought that if the last button you pressed was a jump, you would jump escape?
Nope. Try it. You'll ifnd you jump escape only rarely. Marth can usually get in a free 30-50% the first time he uses it in a stock. If you're unlucky it can go up to 80% before he gets to the edge of the stage and then he can throw into aerial.

Ok, just wanted to clarify somethings.

It doesn't seem like Ness can jump out if the Marth just hits the A button as fast as he can.

Ummm, it's not a true infinite since Marth moves forward for each grab. Sooner or later he will come to the edge of the stage and he won't be able to re-grab. But Marth will usually be able to get in around 50% to 60% in damage, but that's just an estimate and stage dependant as well.

Anytime Ness gets out of the grab, he is set-up for a free hit from Marth. Marth can hit him with pretty much anything. So if Ness is around the low 100's then he is dead since he is a bit light and Marth's d-smash kills fairly well and sends opponents straight up. If Ness tries to DI away he may end up setting himself up for a tipper smash so I wouldn't advise doing that.

I mean...from what EVERYONE is saying getting out isn't consitent. Plus it seems like Marth gets a free hit even if they jump out which still isn't good, but better then getting infinited of course.

You can vary the length you slide out with a sliding break by holding a direction on the control stick. You cannot force a jump break if they're grab attacking you (ie it buffers a grab break). The distance you slide if DI'd fully away doesn't seem to be enough all the time, but is sufficient sometimes for some reason. You are in stun until marth grabs again, meaning dtilt out is impossible.

Ankoku and I did research on this 3 weeks to a month ago, this info's reliable.

Even if Marth hits as fast as humanly possible, you'll still jump break and get out. It's possible Marth MIGHT be able to grab you when you jump break, but it'd have to be pretty ****ing perfectly timed. Again, this is just because it's never happened to me.

There is in fact a way out, which i just found.

First let's start by saying how the infinite grab works.

The easiest way to get this done, is to be shielding and grab them, your finger is already on "R" or "L" depending on what you use, ( i use L, no difference at all from R). Once i got them in, i just keep tapping "a" and ness/lucas is stuck.

If you do this in training mode in slow motion, you will notice that ness/lucas does a weird little landing that delays their recovery, giving marth the extra time to get them back in the grab.

The way out of it is this. I got a friend to do this to me as i was lucas/ness and if you count the amount of knee's marth gives, you can eventually know when he stops and lets go. When the last knee is done, you jump out.

this is how you get out of the infinite grab. it is that easy. especially at lower %'s since the number of knee's is lower

There is if they don't pummel you.

I'm thinking that it's the same if they are pummelling you, except that if you buffer a jump break during a pummel, you ground break instead. So if you know exactly which button press will be the last one, jump then.

Interesting thing that we haven't tried, though. If he's going to get a ridiculous amount of damage anyway, perhaps we could do something drastic to prevent it.

He will only be able to pummel you a set number of times, so if you wait until he's pummelled you and the grab's about to wear out, use a single x press to jump out, but do it after the last pummel animation is finished. that might be what the guy on the previous page meant.

It's crazy enough to work, why not try it. This would mean that marth wouldn't net significant damage on these kinds of shennanigans, which is awesome.

Edit: my idea doesn't work, lol. Don't try it.
