Mario Universe Mario has NO CONTINUITY?! SAY WHAT?

I'm not sure if it was actually said, but realistically, 90% of the game series out there have no actual continuity (including Mario and the Legend of Zelda). For those series, the fans just try to piece them together into their own timelines because it feels awkward not to have a canon one.

I'm not sure what's awkward about it. Why can't the games exist by themselves and be connected by its singular gameplay philosophy. Does a hamfisted interconnected canon universereally affect the games at all, let alone improve them somehow? I mean, it's Mario of all games.
