A nine-year-old boy was forced naked into a home oven after his father caught him rummaging through his wallet.

"I'm going to burn you alive," the father reportedly told his son before closing the oven door at their townhouse in New York, US.

Court papers say the 52-year-old father did not light the oven with son Christopher Moss inside, but the boy suffered burns on his hands when he was forced to hold them over the burner's open flame for two minutes.

The child was also hit with a spatula and dragged across the floor, local news website silive.com reports.

The Wednesday night incident left the boy with second and third degree burns.

But his father James Moss claimed the harsh treatment was justified after the boy tried to steal from him.

Moss has been remanded in custody, charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Honestly... people these days. What is a 9 year old going to do trying to "steal" money. Buy some candy? I don't think putting him in an oven would justify anything. Whatever happened to just saying no? He was probably just curious. Tell him not to do it again and put the wallet somewhere else if it was that big of an issue.
