This has been discussed many times, but nobody has really made a thread about it. Many people argue that only one spot remains on the Dojo to be filled by a newcomer:

I also think that the next character will be a newcomer, but if it doesnt happen, I wouldnt care as I know there will be more than 24 characters. Atleast I hope so.

there will be more than 24 characters in brawl, no offence but they have to hide some of the stuff from us so its a surprise and makes it more interesting the final space for a new comer will be a 3rd arty character i just know it.

what are you talking about? when they started putting out newcomers they were ina small box but then it expanded. and so did the veterans box. for all you know they could just expand it more! plus they certainly haven't given us all the returning veterans yet. theres no captain falcon, no luigi, no, jiggily puff, no mewtwo, no, marth or roy, and no ganandorf(even though he was a copy... but they said he was in the works for his own move set). so its definitely not the last space for newcomers.

I really doubt 24 to be it, one less number of characters than Melee, plus if you consider Samus and Zero Suit the same character (which I do), that would mean we have two slots left. I think at a minimum 30 would be the number, especially since characters like Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Ganondorf are bound to return. I think Sakurai is just keeping all/most of the unlockables a secret until the Japanese release or close up to it, thus why we haven't seen a character in almost a month.

Hmm 12 veters, 11 (maybe 12) new comers, 12 music updates, hmmm.....
You know what i think? All the other veters like Capt and Ness (I think) are
gonna be unlock ables. so that makes like 20 veters (No clones plox) and about
15 new comers (diddy kong, DeDeDe, Megaman, Ridly etc) So it adds up like this

And to the last poster on the first page, shut up. Of course I didn't say that last time the rows were full you *******. Last time, there were obviously more characters coming. Characters that had been around from the start and were obviously getting updates. The only characters that are left are 2 secrets from 64 and All the secrets from Melee.

Of course he would benefit. In case you didn't notice, Sakurai likes causing speculation within the community (that's how you generate hype).

There is no way there will only be 24 characters total, and Falcon will be a starter, not an unlockable again. Just give it time people, we still have several dozen updates.

No disrespect, because you have been respectful to me. I know there will be more than 24 characters, but I'm thinking only 24 will be revealed on the Dojo to prevent MASS spoilers once you get the game.

_____I think that there will be more than 12 newcomers, they will probably have > 25 characters because that is what melee had, and It seems they would want to have more, more really appeals to the casual crowd..

why would there be more than 25 or 24 starters? duh there will be more than 24 characters in the game but he isnt going to show them all yet or anythime soon. i think there is a certain amount of characters that he will reveal on the dojo he's not gonna show every single one right now. just like in the past games there has to be an element of surprise i dunno why people think it will be different here in brawl.
