STAGE STRIKING:

We will use STAGE STRIKING to start the set. NOT RANDOM (unless both players agree). Basically, Player A chooses one stage from the Starter list that he doesn't want to play. Player B picks a stage he doesn't want from the remaining list. Players A & B alternate until only one stage is left. This is the stage for the first match.

ADVANCED SLOB PICKS

Game 1 is played by Stage Striking to pick a stage and then both players/teams pick their characters simultaneously.

When Game 1 is finished then starts Game 2 and the counterpick system. The winner of Game 1 bans a stage then the loser of Game 1 picks the next stage for Game 2. The winner of Game 1 then picks his/her character and then the loser of Game 1 picks his/her character. Game 2 then begins.

The process for Game 3 is the same if the match gets to it.

You realize I'm a TO as well and more than competent to run another bracket? Considering we had exactly 8 teams and that took like an hour to complete. If you're showing later, just let me run the brackets.

John Wu is possibly coming with me to this event. If people would like to arrange money matches with him prior to going into the store on here, then he'd accept them. Though the store doesn't want us to do money matches, as long as money isn't exchanged at the store, it won't matter.

Reposting my old post for Curlz since he was curious.

A. (1)(a) Gambling is the intentional conducting, or directly assisting in the conducting, as a business, of any game, contest, lottery, or contrivance whereby a person risks the loss of anything of value in order to realize a profit.
Comma splices ruin most things, also statements that cover would even cover a person having a job, or anything. I'll talk to my friend that's a lawyer, and I'll let you know. Most states have a skillful competition rule.

Alright, here's the copy and paste from my friend:

My reading of the gambling provisions would cause me to say that a tournament would likely be fine. The code itself only speaks against gambling as a business. If the organizers are taking no money from this then they are making no profit and hence likely cannot be said to be a business.

Section 14.90 also requires 5 or more people in its organization and operation, along with 30 days continual usage, or if less than gross revenue of 2,000.

All that I've written at the moment assumes that any tournament is being held on private property, if in public than another part of the section would apply. At this point you would likely have to look into a permit for this matter and then tax considerations would be taken into account. Since poker is not considered a "skillful competition" by the courts I doubt video games will be either.

From what I understand though, skillful competition matters mostly for tax purposes, not gambling. Fantasy sports is considered gambling, but usually it has an attached amount it must be over for it to matter.

Again, the LA sections I've seen on gambling only refer to it being conducted as a business, friends putting together a tournament in which the organizers get no profit does not seem applicable. I'll look around some more and see what I think but that is my initial assessment.

Venue fee isn't a profit. It's to pay for the space, electricity and loss of business.

I might only be able to get three people aside from myself to come from New Orleans. Due to that, it would probably be better to run teams, and with a small crew battle on the side.
