I felt as if this thread was necessary... In order for the people from the greatest region to discuss the greatest movies ever made.

Btw LOTR > star wars

Edit: please excuse my non pluralization of Rings in the title of this thread for I cannot type :<

"There is only one return and it's not of the king, it's of the jedi."

LOTR blows. All they did was walk in those movies. They were all waaay too boring. It was like fighting Spammer in Brawl.

As opposed to cringe inducing dialouge such as, "In my opinion, the Jedi are evil!" OMFG GTFO scrub

Btw Return of the King came BEFORE Return of the Jedi. The books were published in the '50s.

Yes, but in star wars there is sound in space. as a physics major, this has always bothered me. Also luke's a *****, and his dad's an emo.

but to ridicule both movies.

Actually Return of the Jedi was first. That **** happened not just a long time ago, but a LONG, LONG, time ago. And in a galaxy far away, so of course it'd take forever to ship to the U.S.

'50's? Pshaw.

LOTR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Than Star Wars. :p :p :p :p

And Yes, The Lord of the Rings was written long before Lucas was even making movies.

Why are they great movies? They are epic masterpieces. If you don't think so that's fine, but almost 20 Oscars and well over $3,000,000,000 in ticket sales beg to differ. The original Star Wars Trilogy is the only film trilogy that could even be close to LOTR though, i'll admit that...

shadowball said everything that needs to be said... the only way that star wars beats it is if A) you add in the prequels (which most die hard star wars fans don't consider part of the series) or B) if you add in merchandise sales// spin-offs but you can blame that on Lucas and the fact that he can't get enough money.

LOTR was an awesome movie no doubt about it, beautiful, but my heart will always belong to Star Wars lol. Sure they sometimes look like fairies leaping around with glow sticks (quoted from my uncle), but they are the most bad*** leaping glowing fairies ever in existence lol. I don't know what it is that makes me love Star Wars so much, maybe because I grew up with it? Or maybe because it has cool aliens and stuff, and force powers. Or maybe because its kind of cheesy sometimes  . And I actually don't mind Jar Jar Binx lol. But yea LOTR was amazing and I love it and can watch it multiple times, I just don't have the same love for it as with my Star Wars :) .

So for me - Star Wars > LOTR

Even with the prequel trilogy LOTR is still better than Star Wars. The sheer depth of the history behind the LOTR makes the attempted history behind Star Wars look like a bland attempt to copy. (I'm talking about the billion novels that take place before the prequels.) Now mind you, I have nothing against Star Wars or fans there of, I just say that LOTR is better. Lucas has probably said the same behind closed doors lol...

That's your privilage to like SW over LOTR, we need no fan-boy battles here. (Sauron would do nasty things to the villians in SW though... and no, I don't mean the giant eye. I mean the immortal demon necromancer that is Sauron...)

Hmm would a light saber work on Sauron? Nah I suppose not since a light saber wouldn't be able to destroy the ring. Well if all else fails we can just send Jar Jar to talk to him, mwahahahaha.

:rotfl: The Sith or Jedi wouldn't be able to do anything to Sauron unless fate was helping them the same way it was helping Isildur when he got the Ring. The Force wouldn't work on Sauron or anything like that, and don't bother bringing the Death star into this. Illuvatar or the Valar would rip it out of space before it could fire a shot.

Not really. Star Wars: "The Force" and a bunch of dudes jumping around with laser swords. How is that not "magic"? Magic is Yoda being able to jump around when he's got arthritus most of the time. THATS stupid.

Star Wars, as Family Guy put it, is "long, long ago in a galaxy far away and yet somehow still in the future".

The Lord of the Rings has superior characters, a superior history behind it, a superior plot, superior villians. (An evil politician is Palpatine... SOOO original!) So what if they aren't flying in outer space making noise and therefore breaking the laws of physics in the process, or speaking far over-used lines? They have lasers!!!!! :p lol in a way you're right. Star Wars is so inferior that you shouldn't compare them. :p :p

don't bother bringing the Death star into this.
Lmao, never thought of that.
At least we don't have Gollum, he's way more annoying than Jar Jar lol. Well in my opinion anyway lolz.

aw not even close... gollum's struggle with the ring is one of the most important parts of the story. Without gollum Sam and Frodo just **** around in the mountains forever until they die...

True, but I was talking about on a scale of annoyance. Jar Jar isn't present enough in Star Wars to cause an irritable affect for me lol. But Gollum, god, I wana kick that stupid thing. Even his character as Smeagol grinds my gears lol.

Did any of you watch the old animated movies of LOTR way back in the day? I used to watch those all the time. Man I remember sittin on my dad's bed watchin those. *feeling nostalgic* Gollum looked like a frog back then.

You are supposed to pity Gollum lol. The poor addicted hobbit...

The Witch King of Angmar. Now THERE was an annoying villian in the animated movies. He sounded like an old lady...

Yea maybe I'm just mean when it comes to Gollum lol. At least better to take out the meaner side of myself on a kind of pathetic movie character rather than anyone irl.

I can barely remember the Witch King of Angmar from the animated movies.

Grindhouse wasn't just Tarantino, however.

And you know what? Peter Jackson is just a lazy fat guy. Seriously, have you seen the old commentarys and interviews during the production of LotR? Jackson is normally seen sleeping on a couch.

He's a terrible director.

you know absolutely nothing about movies first off... Secondly if Peter Jackson spent most of LotR sleeping on a couch then he should be considered the best director alive cause if u could direct a movie that was as involved as LotR from a couch then you are a god. Image what the man could do standing... Peter Jackson may be fat but that has little to do with his skill as a director. I don't think that he is the best director ever nor do i know who i think is but still he did a **** good job of the movies hes made and deathproof was a steaming pile of ****.

edit: lol sp

Once again, 20 oscars and 3 billion dollars beg to differ. BTW if you were working 15 hours a day for 15 months of shooting I'd think that we'd ALL be pretty tired.

FYI, PJ lost a lot of weight when he was making King Kong so he's no longer "fat"...

Mind you, I liked Kill bill but these movies are **** compared to the 12 hour masterpiece that is the LOTR...
