Alright, I play Melee competitively and am looking into improving my Smash 64 game.

I have recently set up online play, I live in Australia, and I want to learn how to play Yoshi, Ness and Luigi.

I have the basics down for each of them, but I'm not picking up on how I can improve just by playing random player after player.

Is there someone out there who would be willing to play some matches against me, and help me improve?

will probably help

one way to start is to look up soe combos for each character on youtube, and practise them, thatll help with tech skill, then next start vsing level 9 computers and applying the combos, that'll start applying spacing, etc...

You can learn combos on CPUs or training mode. You'll just have to learn to adapt to people's DI.

Luigi doesn't have much besides uair chains to upB/downB

Yoshi and Ness are mostly about practicing DJC tech skill anyway (plus utilt combos vs heavies).

Random approach tips:

Learn to use Yoshi's DJC fair. You can jump away from them, then turn around and double jump back towards them and DJC fair. Bair and dash attack also work.

For Ness, use the horizontal DJC (either bair or dair), where you do the attack while Ness is moving backwards in his jump for extra distance on your approach.

For Luigi, don't approach (I'm not good with Luigi. I just spam uairs and hope I can start an upB combo).

Then you should start by trying what ballin4life said back there about the practicing your combos with CPUs.
Because many of the players here may have a hi delay for Australia.
trying on CPUs is a start for spacing and combos. xD

I did? Damn I'm cool. The only advice I got was from Judas:

Step 1: play the game
Step 2: dont ask me how to get better

He was the best mentor ever.

nah, its always about the questions. If you never question the game, you never improve past your past maximum. If you have no one to ask, you could be complete blind to a further grasp of the situation. Maybe not on the spacing or the basic movement................ but until opportunities are seen, they aren't explored. To just play against a genus player ins't enough, so feed back is important. Might seem blunt or a short cut, like they didn't earn the knowledge or something, but the amount of time someone puts into a question and the time they are aware what to look for, the faster/stronger they grow. Thats just my opinion....... I see now that there are all types and ways to learn the game........ but I still think a mentor should keep aspects a secret........

Damn I suck at sarcasm.

I do agree feedback is important, I had Kuromatsu for that thankfully. Though he was vague at times.
