HOPEFULLY BETTER WORDING WHERE IT COUNTS
While I was watching some videos, I noticed something really odd.
I mean, I'm sure everybody else has seen it, but there is a very small delay each time somebody uses a smash attack to hit somebody. It also goes for Twilight princess... there is that little .3 second stall after you hit somebody with any smash attack. Now, I know what you guys might be thinking... so what. But Then I was watching a bit more carefully.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4RsofG52POk&feature=related

Watch Meta Knight. When Meta Knight Smashes Mario, He stalls for about .3 seconds, and THEN He flys away into the abyss. You can clearly see this if you look closely. Remember, Metaknight is the one doing the smashing.
00:36... Around that area. That was a longer Stall than Usual.
Is it not possible, for somebody to smash someone, and in that stalling time, maybe a Fox can come behind them and Drill shine them, and do it all over again? That kind of stalling can be used for a lot of things... And I just thought that it was something for somebody to note...
Or Maybe I'm just stoopid. -.-

Here is another example, when Giga bowser Smashes everybody... Just another Stall.

Are you talking about that final up slash he does at the end to Yoshi? He also hits Mario's fireball at the very end of the slash, so that may have caused the small delay to go again?

I know it's just a demo, but I think we should take a closer look.
Cause, I saw it on the brawl videos too, it's even more evident there.
And Again, it was evident in the Twilight princess.

lol i hope i'm not giving you a hard time.
here are my explanations:

1. There is always some kind of lag after attacks and it varies between characters and which attacks they do. maybe this is one of meta-knights "slower" moves.

2. moves are slower when they are hitting an opponent vs nothing.

3. its a demo.

did u see metaknight do the same attack faster or something in a different vid?

No no no... Just... I've seen them smash, and it go perfectly, Smash BOOM HEADSHOT. Then they fly off. haha
But sometimes, it stalls. I think there is a method to that.
In fact, it is most of the time when they Smash hard, and then it stalls.

ok that time i could clearly see that he lagged once he hit one of the other characters.
thats probably it, or maybe because the game can't take an evolving giga bowser and hitting two ppl.
haha i'm just coming up with excuses for it now.

Does that mean that every character has a Sweet spot...?

no of course not, i think the lag with bowser and the lag with metaknight are for different reasons.
bowsers reason may be because there was a whole bunch going on at once and the game couldn't take it or something like that.

and metaknights may be because it was a tipper or a sweet spot. (w/e you want to call it)

Theres this thing in all smash games (and quite a few other games, though not as noticeable) known as hitstun (only in smash, dont know if it has a name in other games). Whenever an attack connects with something, both the attacker and whomever was hit become frozen for a set # of frames, which is different for each attack and is usually longer for stronger moves. Giga's attacks have alot more hitstun than most attacks since they are so much stronger. Also, hitstun occours twice in the one forward smash because the attack hits two people.

Hope that explains it.

Aren't these just stun frames? I think this is in Melee as well, noticable with stuff like Samus's charged shot.

Ah, freeze frames.

Freeze frames make hits seem more dramatic and powerful. The stronger, more priority, and more knockback, the more freeze frames you get. Just makes the game feel more epic and makes our community's speed-freaks/super competitors wig out a bit. Also helps online fighters stay synchronized.

Hey Guys

This is something present in every fighting game. It's called "hit stun" or "hit lag". It is present in Melee, and it is what makes Smash Directional Influence possible (check the Melee boards if you don't know what that is). The window of hit stun frames induced by attacks in Brawl is considerably greater than it was in Melee, hence that mysterious "pause". This was confirmed by Gimpyfish in his E for all impressions thread.
Basically, Smash DI will be much easier to learn now.
