So I have been working on adding this into my game. Just a few questions on it.

First question: Is it easier to lightly press the L/R button to light shield or use the Z button?

Second: Other than the light shielding edge guard, what uses are there for it?

Last (for now): How do you DI to do the light shielding edge guard?

Thanks guys. This party game is really hard lol

To light shield edge hog (old-school "Marth killer") simply hold your shield (lightly) and angle it towards the ledge. It is better to light shield so you don't get shield stabbed by his up B.

Z gives you a "perfect" light shield (IIRC, the Z shield is the biggest but I could be wrong). It is easier to use Z when you want to light shield but the problem is that Z makes you grab. If you want to light shield with Z, you have to do an action first and hold Z before you can do any actions or you can whiff the grab and continue to hold Z.

An easy way to get a light shield edge guard vs Marth is to roll into the ledge. While you are rolling towards it (with your back facing it) hold Z. This way your Z-light-shield comes out instantly and perfectly once the roll stops and you are as close to the ledge as you can get. This is easier than holding L/R and your light shield doesn't decay nearly as fast so you can set this up early if you know when to use it.

Light shield is what kills Fox's shield pressure, Hax does it quite often and it forces Foxes to be more creative against his shield.

This. Light shielding causes you to slip and slide farther when being pressured and it allows you to exit easier. It's also good for when the opponent is waiting for you to leave shield, seeing as light shield lasts much, much longer than the hard shield. Also as Ado touched on earlier, the light shield is obviously much bigger which means less shield stabbing, important for characters with poop for shields, like GnW, Kirby, Pikachu, Jiggs, etc.

Thanks guys. It is super hard to practice it against AI so I figured I should ask so I can practice it when I can finally play against other smashers. I knew it would help with shield stab but not much more.

for the light shield edgeguard (marthkiller), fasterallers don't have to do anything more than hold diagnal away from the edge and release upon taking the UB hit

everyone else can do this technique as well, but you have to fastfall it after marth knocks you off

There are a lot of small uses for light shielding. Also keep in mind that if you lightshield on a platform, face towards the edge, if your opponent hits your shield you will slide off the platform with no lag and be able to punish immediately.

Well I am a Ness player. So I basically have to race him to the ledge? Seems like something crappy like port priority could kill me there. Maybe not but it would be the funniest of Johns.

@Sveet: that makes the DJC punish really easy to do quickly I can assume. I will have to keep that in mind.
