Ledgehop Aerial Selection

Hello there. So I've picked up Falcon and have been practicing techs, but I lack competitive experience with him. My question is not about how to perform ledgehop aerials; I can do all of them (though I still have trouble with Nair).

I want to know people's opinions on when to use each one. Is it situational, or is there value in mixing it up? Here are my assumptions just on analyzing the moves:

Nair: Starting combos; opponent is dashing toward the ledge?
Fair: Opponent standing on ledge, lagging from a missed edgeguard?
Dair: Opponent standing on edge and may shield, ledgehop past and dair to prevent shield grab?
Uair: This to me would seem the most versatile. It has a bit of priority, so perhaps it could be used against an approaching aerial. And because of the hitbox, it should also be able to reach under a taller character's shield?

Thank you for your input.

I almost always use ledgehopped Nairs. Opponents will usually shield the first kick, and forget about the second kick, or the second kick shield stabs them. It also has a really low start-up time and also a really low L-cancel time.

I only use ledgehopped Knees for edgeguarding. Like if I'm edgehogging, I'll force a Marth to upB to the stage, and then I take advantage of the lag time and ledgehop Knee. Or if I know that a ledgehopped Knee won't kill him, then most likely a ledgehopped stomp to knee will kill him.

Those are just my two cents. You should play around with it more and see which works best for you. Watch videos in my thread too! The link is in my sig. :)

Thanks for your help. I watch lots of videos on that thread; it's great. From the videos I've seen, I would rank the frequency as: Nair>Fair>Dair>Uair

That's why I made the point about the Uair. I guess I will have to use it and find out it's downside.

What about Bair?
its good for Edgeguarding, its just harder with Falcon

and you are one mistaken person.
U-air Edgehop beats Dair easy.

U-air is the safest edgehop to do because it comes from under your opponet.

I don't main Falcon...as one might be able to tell..., but I play as him every now and then. I prefer the Uair and Fair ledgehopped aerials. The Uair is usually for a safety precaution to force the opponent off of me or for them to take the defensive. The Fair is when I'm trying to take the offensive, or if I'm sure it's going to connect. I hardly ever use the Nair or Dair...

You should probably just avoid ledgehopping. When you're on the ledge with Falcon, you shouldn't be thinking about how to combo your opponent. You should be thinking how to safely get back to the center of the stage. Jumping directly from the ledge is good for this as it doesn't cost you your jump (I wouldn't recommend this with any other character, but Falcon's is very good).

Zoso, I had no idea you quoted me. *tear*

Personally, I actually do a wavedash back to knee, its a bit of a mindgame, but it works most of the time. However, Falcons ledgegame is not so good, stay in the center of the stage and try not to die.

for some reason i always use the Fair ledge hop, i dont know why, i can do the rest except the Nair, any tips on how to do it ?
Really, it's just practice. I do it two different ways, depending on which ledge (left or right) i'm ledge hopping from. From the left, I use down to drop, then immediately X to double jump and A at almost the same time, and then forward to land on stage. From the right, I lightly press the control stick to the right, and then press A and forward.

It really is all up to you to practice it.
