This tournament will be the first Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament that I've hosted, however, I've hosted tournaments for other games in the past, as well as participate in tournaments of all sorts of variations daily. The tournament will be hosted at TG Games, which is a gaming store, so please respect the rules of TG Games as well as the customers of the store. Any objections of the stores rules will result in you being asked to leave the store as well as a possible diqualification of the tournament (depending on the store's consequential action.)

Prizes/Payouts

Singles
1st - 50%
2nd - 25%
3rd - 15%

Doubles
1st - 60%
2nd - 30%
3rd - 10%

Rules

* 3 stock

* 8 minute timer

* Items off and "set" to "none"

* Team Attack / Friendly Fire on. This only applies to Doubles, but it doesn't change anything as far as Singles goes, either.

* All matches will be best of 3, the finals and semi-finals of both Winner's and Loser's brackets will consist of best of 5.

* The stage selection will operate using randomly selected stages from the list of stages below. If a player and the opponent can agree on a specific stage to be played on, that stage may be chosen with the consent of a host, co-host, or TG Games employee. Any stage not listed on the list of stages below will not be turned on using the random stage switch, and therefor will not be used unless agreed upon by both players.

* You are responsible for your own controller. If you fail to bring a controller, there will be Gamecube controllers and Wii Controllers supplied. Any malfunctions or controller issues are your own responsibility, regardless of whether you borrowed a controller or not. This is why we ask you to supply your own controller to prevent this from being an issue, but in a last resort / worst case scenario, we will be supplying Wii Controllers and Gamecube controllers. If this is the case, we ask that you treat these controllers with respect as they are not yours and we were kind enough to lend them out.

* If a controller malfunctions or creates any issues, the match can be replayed among agreement of both players. If both players don't agree, the match is to be continued as is.

* Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects. If neither player was responsible for the action, the match is to be replayed.

* Stalling is not allowed.

Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 200% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.

* Any suicide that is made (Kirby, King Dedede, Ganondorf, Bowser) the match is ruled by what the game determines as the result.

* If a game goes into sudden death by any means, the winner of the match is determined by a one stock match using the same controller ports, the same characters, on the same stage.

* Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.

* Life Stealing is allowed. This applies only to doubles.

* No assisting or informing other players as they're playing. Giving a player an unfair advantage or notice is not allowed and can result in a forfeit of your next match, or you being asked to leave the store.

* I may (or may not) also be participating in the tournament, but it will in no way be any different then as if I were to not participate in the tournament. If there's any issue with the way the tournament is being held or a dispute of the match, inform an employee or a co-host of the tournament.

* If there's a problem or situation inform someone whether it be me running the tournament, or an employee of TG Games.

* Participants placements will be completely at random on the Double Elimination bracket.

* If you sign up for Doubles without a partner / teammate, you will be assigned one. If you're not assigned one by default, your teammate will be chosen among agreement, or at random.

Other Important Information

* Be responsible and respectful.

* If you do not bring your own controller for the tournament, we will have Gamecube and Wii Controllers to supply. We ask that you treat these controllers with respect as they are not yours. Do not lose or damage these controllers.

* Obey and respect the TG Games store rules and policies. Customers of the store will be walking in and out of the store, so please respect the employees, customers, and hosts of both the store and tournament.

* No smoking indoors.

* No alcohol or any other illegal drugs.

* You are responsible for your own objects. TG Games as well as the hosts of the tournament are not responsible for any lost, stolen or broken property.

* Failure to follow any of these rules will result in you being asked to leave the store, a possible disqualification based on the store's handling of your actions, and not refunded.

Set Format (Orders of Procedure)
1) Controller ports are determined by the player on the top of the bracket. (Remember, bracket placement is completely at random.)
2) Players choose their characters - Player on the top of the bracket chooses their character first, followed by the player on the bottom of the bracket. Double blind may be called with the agreement of both players and the consent of a host, co-host, or a TG Games employee.
3) Stage selection will be chosen at random, from the list of stages on the list. All stages not on the list will be turned off on the random stage selection. If both players can agree on a stage to be played on, that stage may be used with the consent of a host, co-host or a TG Games employee.
4) After the match, repeat the set format procedures for match two alternating the players for each number of procedure on this list. (When it gets to match number 3 and 5, orders of procedure will take place in a rock-paper-scissors fashion.)

Two questions. Are you willing to change the stage list in your rules because Jungle Japes, Pirate Ship, PictoChat, Pokémon Stadium 2, and Norfair are going to hurt your attendence since they are terrible stages for tournaments.

Also, what type of tv's are availible? If there's lag, and people aren't allowed to bring their own tv's as setups that gonna kill attendence as well.

the stages wont really kill attendance. while some may not prefer it, if ppl want a tourney they'll go to it. also note that theres a biggish tourney in north nj, so this will likely only attract locals

On the same date? o_O

I tried planning around all of the larger tournies..

TV's are setups that people bring. Unfortunately, it's what I have to use to rely on. The stage lists are counterpick and what not, and I'd be willing to change them, but it's not extremely likely.

Keep in mind, among agreement players can change the stage to one of their choice. As long as both players agree to particular ways and consent someone about it for legitimacy, everything is fine. But without agreement, it's those randomly by default.

I said hurt his attendence. Stages like those prevent me from driving 2 hours to lose to bull****.

Also, what tourny is in north nj on that day? I wasn't aware of anything close to me coming up.

I don't really get how this argues against my point....it just helps it. Having the option to gain a huge advantage on someone based on the rules of the event is a pretty big deal. Nobody is going to AGREE to sacrifice that to play on a more fair stage when they have an easy win right in their face

Then I could always agree to a counterpick setting instead if multiple people are there that understand it and are willing to and can help assist me with a system to make it work...

Also, what tourny is in NJ on that day? I was looking for it myself.

The maps don't bother me at all,I'm deff. going to this,you guys should go too.
Not very suprising based on your join date and posts unless thats an alt account.

I have work on this day so I won't be coming. Still, if you plan to attract decent attendence my comments should be considered instead of marking them as mindless hate for dumb rules.

Not an alternate account. Just a friend of mine that I recommended to Smashboards since he'll be attending the tournament as well. Trying to refer a lot of other members, too.

I'll probably be at this assuming something stupid doesn't happen within the next week.
Great! I look forward to seeing you, as well as meeting you!

this will actually be my first tournament so I'm really looking forward to it.
Hopefully it meets up or surpasses expectations then. I'm trying my best to host it, and just locally it's getting a lot of hype. Brawl discs have even sold more in the store now, too. xD

I saw people buying Brawl from the store it's being hosted at just for the tournament. So it should be pretty large, and a lot of noobs as well as experienced players will be entering. Makes it even more exciting, especially since it'll be Double Elimination, too. If you know anyone that'd be interested in coming as well, spread the word. Invite them! ;)

The more players, the better. Prizes go up, as well as competition, and friendships. It'll just be a much better time. haha.

Ohh man, my first offline tournament, im siked!

and when it says Players choose their characters, in the description, and quote: "Player on the top of the bracket chooses their character first, followed by the player on the bottom of the bracket. Double blind may be called with the agreement"

Does that mean if someone were to pick Pikachu, would i just be sh*t outta luck?

It means you choose your character, then the opponeent chooses there character or vice versa. You can choose whichever character you want... So that for matchup purposes you can't immediately change your character to a counterpick character (if that makes sense?)

And Double Blind may be called because both players can choose there characters at the same time (without knowing who the opponent is using). In other words, both players choose there characters without the opponent knowing who they choose at the time they choose.

thats not a glitch, it happens to fast fallers at low% because the momentum of the move leads into the other hit. The only thing that should be banned is metaknights cape trick.

That explains why I was confused. haha. What really had me was that I looked it up on Youtube, and I could have recovered with some of those characters.

Thanks for clarifying that, though. i appreciate it.

It's really not as bad as what people make it seem. It's not as difficult to recover once you're aware of the technique. It could either be an easy gimp vs some characters, or it could be a recovery awareness. The videos I've seen were against computers, whereas if I were the computer, I could have DI recovered or even recovered even without that DI. The computer's recovery wasn't timed at all and there was little to no DI at all. But then again this only applies to what I've seen.

I'm keeping this date. This works fine for me. If it's not large, then we know it'll be larger for next time, right? Which means it'll only get better as tournies progress.

Sorry, I would've been going to this event were it not for a tourney I'm going to that's a 5 minute walk from my house the week after (I need the cash for that, I'm poor :( ). I'll keep an eye out for the next tourney you hold, considering that it's not that bad of a drive, a straight shot on I-81, and hopefully I'll be there!

Ahhhh, makes sense. Well, if you can make it by any chance, feel free to show up! We'd like the competition!
I've been "training" all this month for this event.
Good to know! The more competition the better!

So what time will competitors actually ARRIVE? Like, would it be ok if I were to come at 1:00 or so?
I was actually hoping to have the tournament much sooner then when it is starting to be honest.

But the owner wants a particular employee to be working at the time of the tournament. So I'll be starting the tournament at the start of the shift of an employee that's pretty cool, and very easy to get along with. You'll like him. Everybody should.

But I'll be there an hour or two before the other employee's shift is over. Who I heard is also pretty cool, and only works on the weekend, so I've never met her. But others have told me she's pretty cool and laid back, too. But since she only works the weekends, she's also unaware. So... The owner and the other (my name is Corey as well :laugh:) Corey (one of the cooler employees of the three employees that I met hired at the store.)

So whenever you show up is fine with me. I'll be taking control of everything and making sure everything runs smoothly. Anytime after 12 should be fine.

I won't be going to that, I have job orientation tomorrow. :ohwell:

Just got hired the other day. I start Sunday, and have orientation tomorrow. I'd love to go, though.
