Everyone knows that Brawl will be EPIC, and we'll probably play it for years. But a question I wanted to ask is, Is this the last smash bros?

I'm sure it's been answered somewhere else, but i've been getting mixed messages.

If this is the final brawl, how would you feel about the end of the franchise and how long would you really play it? If there was going to be another smash bros, what do you think they would put in that?(characters, gameplay)

Discuss.(And answer my question)

Well, I hope it's not...

If nothing else, SSB is a HUGE money maker for Nintendo. I'm sure it's responsible for single-handedly selling tons of Gamecubes. They'd be foolish, on an executive level, to end it.

I predict that there will be one SSB for every Nintendo console, ever. Even if it gets watered down to another low-quality Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat knockoff, they'll keep churning them out, and we'll keep buying them.

Do you really think that Nintendo would end one of the highest (Or the highest) selling franchise just because Sakurai is leaving (I'm not actually, sure, but I think he is leaving). I'm pretty sure they'll be more, though, just not lead my Sakurai. Right?

I hope it's not either, but sadly even if this is not the final smash, it will surely be Sakurai's last which is why I believe Brawl is gonna be the ultimate smash

Lol, Sakurai already left.
He's with his own company, Sora Ltd.
Nintendo asked him to make a new smash bros for the wii, and he gladly accepted the offer, seeing as the alternative would be someone new making Brawl and not the Sakurai we know and love.

well it wouldn't really be bad if sakurai didn't get to make any more smash games

i agree with the above in that there will be a Smash Bros. for every Ninty console, but i do also think Brawl will be the peak of the series.

What a shame. I'm scared to see what would happen with the series without Sakurai in it. He's pure genius, the Pokemon Trainer just pushed that fact right into my face.

Super Smash Bros. has always been the only series that never has disappointed me... I'd be well, sad, if a future Smash game disappointed me.

This series can't end, but it might end in someone else hands...

May destroy the series, but who nows?

I don't see Smash ending for a long time. Smash will come out every 6+ years with each new Nintendo console (regardless of whether or not Sakurai leaves). Although it seems like Sakurai may stop making Smash after Brawl, I have a feeling he may work on the next game after seeing how much of a huge success Brawl will be. Sakurai HAS to be seeing how much hype this game is getting. Maybe he'll stick around for a few more entries in the series.

Smash Brothers won't end, Sakurai said that he only wanted to include a few third party characters PER GAME (can't find exact quote), this infers that there will be more Smashes.

Even if Sakurai quits, it's not the end of the world. I mean Zelda had a new director and that series turned out fine without Miyamoto.

I doubt this is the last smash, but it might be the last one Sakurai works on. If it is the last one though, I'll never stop playing it. I'll always go back to it and continue to play it. I can't see myself ever getting tired of any of the Smash games so far.

Will this be the last Smash Bros game?
- This might be say.. the last "Smash Bros" game thats known as that. It might be changed to a different name later on. But I say this is a great game and they will continue to WANT to make more of it if it sells so darn well. The next game might come out on the next console as one has come out for every console so far, even as far away as they were.

Will this be Sakurai's last game?
- Um.. I can't really answer this, I haven't gotten or seen any information on this. I've only seen other people saying something about this. I forgot what they said exactly though.. Can't help anyone here.

my sources are the many forums and sites that threw the idea around during the 'lol Nintendo Revolution!' period.

No ****, everyone thought Revolution was going to fail because everyone thought it was just going to be a regular system, then after they announced how it was tailored to little kids and old people it exploded.

They didn't stop with Mario Party 3, regardless that it was much, much, much less epic.
I'd expect Smash to keep going as long as Nintendo does.

I doubt it will be the last...

Wouldn't they be making a bigger deal if Brawl were the last smash brothers?

He would have at least mentioned once that this is the last game in SSB series...

Woah, this kinda made me feel week. Brawl being the last? I highly doubt that, though I do believe that if there were another to be made after Brawl, it would indeed take a long time to brew it up.

I have slight doubts that this will be the last Smash Bros., but sadly, everything must come to an end sooner or later, so I wouldn't be disappointed if it were indeed the last game. I would play it for years, I'm sure of it. I don't know what kind of gameplay the next SSB would have though as I don't even have a Wii and know almost nothing about THAT kind of gameplay, so I'm kinda lost there. And I also don't have a slight idea what characters the developers would put in since it all depends on what they do with Brawl.

Well, other than video game consoles developing to virtual reality, how are they going to continue any of the big three lines? The answer is that as long as they want money, they can find things to improve. Not everything may be as big a jump as from the PS to the PS2, but everything will always have room for improvement (at least as long as you are alive, anyways), even if it is just investing billions of dollars into graphics, or memory, better online play, whatever. The same goes for the biggest video game series Nintendo grasps.

If they stopped making the games, it probably would not be because they ran out of ideas, more likely because the games stopped selling well or because Nintendo went out of business.

I personally am not so scared at the thought of not getting another game after Brawl (although one more would be good). Look how long Melee has lasted us, and predict how much longer Brawl will. We can continue playing both games both competitively and casually with our friends until we grow out of this part of our lives. Finally, it is true that unless something goes horrendously (sp?) wrong, we will almost definitely be recieving more games after Brawl, so don't even bother worrying.

Visiting from above.
Nintendo makes too much money on Smash to discontinue the franchise it wouldn't make sense.

HOWEVER, this will likely be the last one directed by Masahiro Sakurai.
