Btw, I dont know if I should love or hate Japan, They are such sexists, and if you read some things about Japan that is not made by Anime/Videogames/Manga Fanboy/girl, you can clearly see that they are racists, there are no-gaijin/women places.
True, there are places that say no-foreigners, and there are some Japanese people that are sexist, but you can't define a country by those things. There are still KKK in America, but I don't think the US should be defined by a few extremists.

Even on a personal level, people shouldn't be defined by their flaws.

I was born knowing English. One side of my family is Spanish, so I've picked up on that too. Also, I'm taking Spanish classes at my high school.

Nekochan ga sukija nai desu kara totemo koroshi.tai. Soshi.te nekochan ni kakawarazu boku wa nihon o houmon shiritai. Anata mo desu ka? Nekochan wa suki janai dehoshi desu. Nekochan dame dame desu yo.

I think I have that correct. I never used "ni kakawarazu" in a sentance before. Note: I used periods because they cencored the word "shi.t" which is not what it is in Japanese.
♪I'm turnin' Japanese I think I'm turni' Japanese I wouldn't think so!♪

How exactly were you trying to use "ni kakawarazu" in that sentence...?

And it should be "nihon wo houmon shi.tai"
Translate this: " Nekochan wa suki janai dehoshi desu"

I don't mind making a thread on Japanese if people want...seems like some people would want that :)

I was trying to use it as "regardless of "x"" I purely dictionary usage so I am pretty sure it wasn't exactly correct. As for "nihon wo houmon shi.tai", In never heard "wo" used before in a sentance. How does "wo" work?

"Nekochan wa suki janai dehoshi desu"

Another thing I just tried putting together but most likely fgrammatically incorrect. The negative form of "suki" to like is "sukijanai" so do not like. I used the -tehoshi form but because it's negative, I flipped the "te" with "de". So, basically "I want you to not like the cat." Since -tehoshi signifies I want someone to do something for me.

Not sure if this is a topic but....

Anyone speak Japanese? Maybe we can turn this into a Japanese language thread.

Anyways, I have taken 3 years of Japanese and plan on expanding it out of the classroom.
I speak Japanese, but can't type if my life depended on it sadly. I think the only word I know how to type are Shinjuku, Osaka, and Shin Goku Satsu.

download it?....
It's not worth it though anyway. Any computer software that helps you learn a language isn't as good as the real deal - a living instructor.

Living Instructors cannot be at your disposal at everything, neither they Have infinite patience or teach it free. We really need a good JApanese learning site.

Sadly, our home computer does not have any Japanese writing packs installed so I cannot write in Japanese.

Yoshi, that would be cool. I would love to help out if you would like some. I am semi-fluent but I do (as you saw) make mistakes.

if you're talking about writing the characts just google quickkey, there ya go

if you're talking about having the character sets to read anything instead of seeing a bunch of squares that's also easy and free, just do a quick search on microsoft's site

on a side note anyone have any wisdom on spanish verb conjugation to make it an easier pill to swallow?

Here's a guide i made a while back for NF:

How to type in East Asian Languages
For Windows

Start> Control panel> Regional language settings> Languages
Click the box that says install east asian fonts, click ok
Put in your windows installation disk, and let it install, then restart

Then

Start> Control panel> Regional language settings> Languages
Click Details
Add
Choose a language and click the box that says Keyboard Layout

To change languages~
Start> Control panel> Regional language settings> Languages> Details
On the bottom click Language Bar
Select "Show Language Bar"

You can now change the language you wish to type in by selecting the Language bar that appears on your screen. For Japanese, Click the icon that appears next the JP (it should be blue). Select instead the red icon (IME). This makes typing in Japanese as easy as typing letter by letter.

How to View Foreign Fonts
For Most Browsers

Most browsers should come with Asian fonts already installed. If you find that you might not have them, go through the above procedures until you do. To find out, go to any Page that has different characters, ie, a Japanese or Chinese website. If all you see is ?? or squares, you need this:

Open your browser
(Some browsers may differ on which tab the Encoding info is on)
View > Character Encoding > More Encodings

From here, it all depends what you want to see, so if you want Japanese, select the first Japanese encoding, for Chinese, the first Chinese encoding etc.

You can also select the Auto Detect function so that your browser automatically picks them up when you go to a page with foreign font.

A sticky would be helpful

日本語が出来る人は、コンピュータのかん字が小さいから、読むのがむずかしいと思いますか。

Anyone else who can read Japanese, do you think reading kanji on a computer is difficult because they are small? Some of them start to become very hard to read. For example the kanji for benkyou suru is impossible for me to read at this size, I have to press the space bar to have the thing come up just to be able to read it.

私は一年半ぐらい日本語を勉強しています。来年の九月東京のしんじゅくに日本語を勉強しに行きます。

だれか日本で住んでいたことがありますか。

for the spanish folk here: is there any sort of glossary out there for the sort of lingo you'll see in message boards/chat rooms/etc, basically shorthand like "hi how r u 2day" and terms associated with "internet culture" that get fairly widespread use online? or at the least a handy little cheat sheet to go by, that'd be fine and dandy

Try this: Wikipedia's list of Internet Slang Phrases.

I use it sometimes, too. Although there are "meanings" for some of the abbreviations that are obsolete, it's still a pretty handy guide.

Oh, I thought you meant that you were Spanish and that you didn't understand some of the English lingo. Sorry for answering the wrong question.

Ok, nevermind my previous post.
