When I see alot of the new stages in brawl, I see some sweet designs and alot of action. That's fine and dandy, Sakurai deserves to show off his immense talent. But when I look back at melee, the main stage I and everyone else around me used was also the most simple: FD. So far we have a ton of sweet stages and many have several battle ares within them, with lasars shooting at us to bridges blowing up to stages crumbling to clouds..but only one stage set up for a good old fashion brawl, in smashville. I hope that this is not the only FD stage of its sort, becuase like FD, only one option for a simple brawl could make the scenery boring after 6 years. I hope that Sakurai realizes this and make some more worlds that keep it simple. Thoughts?

I agree. I love New stages, and most of the ones we've been shown look like party stages. Don't get me wrong, I love it and look very forward to exploring them. But my friends and I are the same way about FD. It's the best stage in melee. I'm sure there will be plenty of stages of all variations, but when you're feeding the masses with a new update everyday, I'm not sure how many flat platforms I would show.

Stages that are like Final Destination and Battlefield are overated. Sure, we should have some of those, but most stages should have some sort of twist, and the awesome innovation shown in the stages like Delphino Plaza and WarioWare amazes me.

And besides, I'm sure that there are plenty of basic stages. They just want to show the exciting ones, because most people get more hyped for those than for Final Destinations.

I'd actually say it's pretty balanced so far. We have a few very unintrusive stages, a few stages which change their setup but don't appear to have hazards, a few stages that have changes that would start to actually effect gameplay, and then a couple that are pretty crazy.

I'm not worried at all.

I always prefered stages that change it up a bit. When you strip away items and play on a flat stage it kinda strips away what makes Super Smash unique and the fight turns into an arcade fighter like Street Fighter or Mortal Combat. Remember the enviroment is your friend not your enemy.

no >.< i dont see the point in adding 48 stages that are exactly the same with a different background. its just boring. I prefer the complex stages there more fun. 1 or 2 simple stages is ok but most stages should be more complex or it would take alot fo fun out of brawl.

You may think exciting stages are fun, and they are because they are hectic and keep things moving, but I really do prefer the Final Destination-esque stages over those. It is more fun for me to fight my friends and others on stages with little obstacles and nothing getting in the way of our battling.

I'm just the opposite...I think it's boring...flat, plain...nothing special.

I need chaos, random changing stuff...obsticles, traps...

I think that everyone in here who is saying how they disagree and think that flat stages are boring completely missed the point, and should probably stop posting entirely.

you shouldn't need the stage to create action, your battles should be packed of relentless violence without ridiculous obstacles.

On the other hand, pokestadium melee was a bangin level.

yeah more FD type levels would be good for variety but i would be happy if there were more stages like fountain of dreams. its floating platforms moved but that was all. Nothing shooting at you or anything.

Besides very competetive play, the game is focusing on casual fun and so wacky, changing levels add to that fun. I can imagine people using all items on high lighting speed warioware lol

Its nice to have a simple stage once in a while, however I much rather the more hectic stages. They keep you on your toes and basicly puts you in a situation where you watch everything, not just your opponent. More danger, more thrills, thats why I prefer casual play over tounament.

Better than a Spam post...

Anyway I know what he means, but multiple stages that have the exact same scheme but LOOK different...that seems like a waste

I would like there to be more huge stages. Or stages with ceilings and/or walls. I like battle where my friends and I have enough damage on us that every hit sends you flying, and you almost always can come out of it. IMO, Zelda's castle was **** near perfect.

well i understand what people are comming from, but what im saying is like 1 or two other stages like smashville and FD to have a little diversity. for example, battlefeild had the orginal battlefeild, fountain of dreams, the yoshi one, a kirby one..i think they should do that same thing with the FD setup. then if someone doesnt like the FD setup, well, then theres 40 other stages to choose from that arnt like it at all. everyone wins

EDIT: from this thread alone you can see that people have extremely diverse opinions on what is the premire type of stage to fight on. Hopefully they will have a few of each type: FD, battle feild, huge stages, moving stages, and chaotic stages in brawl to satisfy everyone

I used to like the crazy stages when I first started playing, but then they would start ruining my combos so I stopped using them. Example: shffling fairs with marth and then getting blasted by arwings mid combo. With stages like FD, I feel like the battle is between me and my opponent without anything do distract us.

However, I don't think we something like 20 simple stages that are just variations of one other. I would like more stages like Pokemon Stadium because while the terrain changes, allowing each match to feel unrepetitive, it also doesn't have any explosions of things that could damage your character while they hit the opponent.

I believe Sakurai got the picture. I'm 100% sure that they are going to have a lot more traditionally designed stages instead of going crazy.

We don't need the same level design used over and over. Yes final destination is nice, but we only need one of it. Don't worry it'll come back. Random stuff shooting at you is fun sometimes. I like a level with platforms for juggling and some stuff in the way to make it more challenging.

I did love the simpleness of FD, it made it the best stage ever, the ONLY plave in Melee were you could fight without distactions FD+No items=Skill only.... Since I know Final Destonation will return, I hope it gets a Makeover like battlefield, BUT keeps its overall simplicity, Sakuri, Im letting you Change what FD looks like, but nothing else >=( XD

Final Destination isn't actually about skill, cause to fight while overcoming obstacles at the same time..now THAT needs real skill
IMO, though

I think alot of the people here missed the point of this topic.

The stages don't need to be of extreme simplicity, just to the point in which it won't become a game breaking interference, and that's perfectly reasonable(a la Pokemon Stadium).

I don't know if ill get flamed for this, but ah well...

I reckon that nearly all static stages (which is pretty much all of them in melee except for glacier mountain and rainbow ride, I'm probably forgetting some though...maybe flat zone too) are good and all equally balanced. People can be very ignorant in the way that they diss some stages because they're unbalanced and random, yet every character balances differently on each stage. If you haven't noticed, some characters are better than others on final destination. Does this make it unfair? No. What is stopping that huge stage (i think its called Zelda's Castle or something) actually being tournament legal? The best answers i have gotten are quite ridiculous.

I guess thats a bit off topic, and this next bit is even more off topic, but ****it im on a rant (random as it may be) and im gonna finish it.

I've always found that certain items on very low would demonstrate so much more skill than what we have currently. Obviously no healing items, shells, hammers, partyballs, etc. and if crates, barrels and capsules could be turned off that would make it so much better. If a random beam sword or star rod happens to drop from the sky every now and then, it really is a test of who utilizes it better. And PLEASE dont make that assumption that im one of the noobs arguing that "itemz are teh shiz" and that i am inexperienced with advanced techniques based purely on my post count/lack of picture.
Think what this could mean for techniques! Think of the ice climber item combos!!! Did you know that samus can use items to bomb of as recovery?? Captain falcon shooting out multiple stars!!
Give it a chance?
kthxbye

P.S So yeah, sakurai has it all planned out, dont worry about it.

i want at least one lvl like hyrule temple. i know the camera sucks when theres more than two people but its a good level. maybe half or even all of smashes community might agree with me here. FD and fountain of dreams are pretty much the best.

Okay, well, all tourneys play time stock. So, if I'm Fox, I can tag you with a laser, and then proceed to run away from you for the whole match. I don't care who you are, you will not catch me. See why it's banned now?

Huh....I thought it was because of the limited KO abilities (have to star KO in middle and side KO for downstairs). Fox cheapness works too.

Anyway, Delfino Plaza, as far as we know, looks like the perfect stage (statistically). It is not too bland to look at like Battlefield(Melee), it has great scenery and there is environment interaction, enough that it's noticeable, but not enough to be interference. the interaction is the changing of edges of the main platform (in plaza, it climbs up the sides with stairs, etc).

The Halberd just missed this perfect interactivity with it's beam cannon. It was so close too. Oh well.

Lol, yeah, you'll get flamed for this...

How about this situation... you're in the finals for a major tourney, and you and your opponent are both at high % and last stock, it's the last game of the set, and you're currently in a very easy position to finish off the opponent with some type of ledgegaurd, suddenly a bob-omb appears a couple feet above your head and explodes on you. You lose the tournament.

...yup, items are cool in competitive play.

Anyways, my opinion of the whole stage matter is, as long as they put FD back in, or something very similiar to FD, I'll be happy.

Items simply do not belong in competitive play.

Items are break the evenness of the game or lack-there-of. (I.E giving some character disjointed hitboxes, and projectiles)

People like simple levels because they favor almost all characters equally. I would have no problem with complex levels, as long as they keep the game's formula there, and also make sure they arent overwhelmingly in a character's favor.

Maybe Sakauri will mindgame us again and when you see FD updated you ecpect it to be normal until he says: "Look out from the Meteors coming at you at all sides!" XD

Did...did i hear someone say...CAPTAIN FALCON?!?!?!?

cap falc and luigi (when wding, but i guess you cant wd everywhere) can catch him.

Also, no one runs from captain falcon.

but yeah, i see your point. I still think that there shouldn't be a time limit. What they should have (this'd be cool) is a referee, who plays bowser, and you're not allowed to hit him (he stays out of the way). And if you camp, run away, etc. Stall in any way, he'll GIMPYFISH COMBO your ***.
