Kinda hoping Echo characters are excluded from these 5 reveals, as they're pretty easy to implement and would make for quick DLC post launch.

Me too, after K. Rool, Dixie and Banjo are easily my next most wanted.. never played Golden Sun so I have no attachment to Isaac but he was pretty big on the ballot, I remember him having quite the following..

Geno has been asked for since Brawl and I view the Mii costume the same for him as I do K. Rool in that I think it's a boon to his chances. I personally am neutral to Geno he's cool but I don't particularly care for him. I'd still want to see his fans get him though. Not to mention being a child of the 90s I would love to see a character who was prominent in the SNES era get it in.

I need to mention an interesting idea:
What if one of K. Rool's specials is a stealth ability (like in his DKC2 and DK64 boss fights), where he turns invisible and you only know his location from dust/shadows? Would it be a likely special ability or not likely? Would it be overbearing in competitive play if it were implemented?

After 4 more years of speculation, I wish I could look at K. Rool's chances as more than a coin toss. Even when Chrom got deconfirmed, he was put in Robins FS AS WELL AS a Mii Outfit just so people would be happy. All we got was a Mii Costume and Smash Run enemies. Sakurai has not brought up this characters name once like Geno and Ridley. Hell nobody from Nintendo seems to want to mention him through word of mouth. The Tropical Freeze developers didn't say a single word about Kremlings in that recent online stream for DKTF Switch (even though "Where's K. Rool and the Kremlings?", was spammed by so many people). Its just hard to see him having more than a 50% chance at making it in. If he does get in I will honestly be shocked and it will be at the 100% mercy of Samurai.

We've been given the minimum amount of DK representation thus far. He can change the animations, graphics, sounds, and play styles of all these characters, but nothing will speak love to any franchise, except adding a new character. I'm assuming we will get an Echo Fighter at the least and a Stage/Song or two. I just don't see a Newcomer for DK happening anymore. If this is Smash Bros "Ultimate", I'd expect K. Rool, of course to be there, but we might just have been too little, too late, to show how popular/requested our guy is. If anything, I'm glad we got Snake, Pokemon Trainer, and Ridley.

Between now until December just make sure you all temper your expectations. King K. Rool is and has been one of the top picks for a 1st Party Newcomer since the Ballot and his inclusion picked up actual steam after Brawl. Ridley had been wanted since Melee I assume, but was denied so much and outright mentioned by Sakurai that is was just time to FINALLY add him. Assuming K. Rool would have to wait just as long as Ridley did to be included..we are not at Smash 6 yet.. King K. Rool has never been talked about by Sakurai. I can't see him liking or even wanting to mess with this historical/Rare/american developed character.

I would love to be wrong about all of this, but I am expecting the worst while hoping for the best. Everyone in this thread should follow suit. Don't give up every spark of hope. Hope is a good thing, but make sure this time around you remember how Sakurai has done DK in the past. It took us til Brawl to get Diddy and we have got no more DK Reps since then, while Sakurai's personal franchises, Kirby/Kid Icarus got 2 characters in Brawl and Smash3DS/Wii U. This is supposed to be the biggest and baddest Smash of them all and it looks great so far, but it will not be "Ultimate" to me and maybe many of you if our King doesn't make it yet again.

Food for thought. It is always easier to be pessimistic than optimistic. I am positive that this Smash will indeed be amazing, but I am no longer expecting anything for DK fans whatsoever. Nintendo...... Sakurai.... God...... please.... prove me wrong.

If K. Rool isn't brought back from obscurity somehow, then by Smash 6, he won't be in Nintendo's minds anymore, with the ballot, his only chance, far in the past. Hope while you can because it really will be pointless if he isn't in this game. Ride the hype on the Gangplank Galleon one more time, for better or worse. K. Rool's never been one to let falling stop him: having 5 fights in DK64, getting up again 3 times in Diddy's Kong Quest alone, and never failing to make his next scheme more ambitious than the last, eventually even attempting to take over the whole universe. King K. Rool never gave up in his heyday and now we need to do the same for him.

Yeah. I think some people are looking at the echo concept all wrong (check out yesterday's RTC for some doozies). Just because Sakurai rebranded clones doesn't mean he's choosing them any differently as last-minute easy-to-develop characters. For the base roster, it's never going to be a matter of "We have these two characters, and one can be an echo, so let's go with them because they're easy." If that were the case, Daisy would've usurped one of Rosalina or Jr's spots last time, and we'd have been spared years of bellyaching from a certain meme man and their alts.

Again, not to say Dixie would be a full echo. But if it's a matter of her being easy to add late in the game, one or two different moves isn't going to hold her back, I don't think.

Dixie won't be an Echo, the echo fighters are just like Dark Pit and Lucina their move sets are identical to their original parent character but are given different properties, like strength, speed, sweet spots etc. It's a fancier name for clones. Daisys move set is identical to Peach she will just have different properties applied to her moves.

Dixie can't be an echo as it wouldn't make sense for her to have Diddys up special. At the least she will be a semi clone like, Falco, Doc, Ganondorf etc. Were she will have modified specials that are reminiscent of Diddys.. but over all similar animations... even that's tough though because when you look at semi clones they tend to have the same specials as their parent character, Ganondorf's up special is literally C. Falcons, same as all the other semi clones.

I don't see Dixie being a clone or semi clone I think she will be a fully unique character. Diddys specials just don't make sense for her. Aside from the peanut pop gun which could be made into her bubble gum gun from TF she is capable of unique feats due to her hair and I believe her specials would utilize that trait.

One thing I'm tired of hearing is how Dixie and Funky Kong can be echo fighters. I'm honestly against the idea. Both characters have potential to bring unique mechanics to the table. Especially Funky Kong. I bet Sakurai could pull a lot of moves from his surfboard. I don't think making any of them echo fighters would do them or the DK franchise any justice.

Not that I want to get carried away or anything, but it's interesting that they say "at minimum, there are at least a half dozen characters still to be revealed." I suppose they're probably just being cautious by saying that since they don't know the actual amount of newcomers but it's still interesting that even vergeben doesn't have a lock on how many newcomers there actually are. (although I guess it's more appropriate to assume that these 5 characters after Simon Belmont are base game and he doesn't know anything about potential dlc characters yet.

Isaac, Banjo & Kazooie and King K. Rool all getting in together would be like a dream to me though.

I don't know man all the Ubisoft/Nintendo love lately makes me feel a Ubisoft character (whether that be Rayman or a Rabbid) is inevitable maybe not in the base game but eventually as DLC. Mario x Rabbids was a HUGE success and now we have Fox McCloud in Starlink. It only makes sense to me for Nintendo to add a Ubisoft character in the future. Honestly if we're basing off support for Nintendo as well. Ubisoft sure as hell deserves to have a character in Smash more than Square or Konami did (especially in regards to Snake and Cloud). As they are supporting Switch and was the only company that supported Nintendo early on in the Wii U days (when this game originally started development).

Something else to throw out there a nice nod that were getting at least a little more DK content than what were used too, the song in Diddy's trailer indicates we will be getting some other music other than just Jungle Japes. Here's hoping for a couple Montage tracks from DKC2 and DKC1... if K. Rool gets in I'm hoping he's accompanied with a new rendition of his original theme as well as Corocdie Cacophony that would make me super happy...

Or was it in fact the new Starlink Battle for Atlas made by Ubisoft ?

If it is debunked, we still don't know what Retro Studio is working on...but maybe the studio is having problems since the last rumored cancelled title.
It could have put them in a similar situation as Rare (ironically) before MS bought the compagny.
That's just a projection of mine, but that's really weird not to have heard anything of them for sooo long.

Personally, I do not see a new DK stage coming (unfortunately), but Kongo Jungle 64 is yet to be revealed and I feel like it would be a good fit for K Rool‘s page.

It’s the stage that featured his theme in the last remix and is heavily based off of DKC1, K Rool‘s game of origin.
