I frequent the boards the most.

So it's better say that Twinkie should definitely infract us all, especially if it's someone's birthday.
But I want a warning first.

If it wasn't bad, wrong and unprofessional, I would actually infract you all for laughs and giggles.

Welp, I think I'm going to drop Kirby. I rarely win with him anymore lately.

To put things simply, I only used Kirby in one set in tourney today but it was against Uno (an MK). Game 1 he's ****** me in the MK ditto on SV and I ragequit, I was down a whole stock and just getting mad. Game 2 I take him to Frigate and barely win the MK ditto (110% last stock). I lost confidence in my MK after game 2 being so close, so game 3 he takes me to PS1 and I went Kirby. It was going about even until last stock where I had 0% and he had 41% but... I was just sooooo nervous I couldn't execute at all when I got to last stock, all I was doing was throwing out grabs and trying to bair/fair. Eventually he came back and won when he was at around 100% last stock cause my spacing and execution was so bad when I got nervous, I couldn't think/read him. Tbh, I had him at the ledge when he was at 100% and he was having trouble getting back and he nado'd to recover which I could've f-smashed to win the game, but I just choked and didn't react to it/just got hit by it for free. Eventually he came back when I baired his shield and got d-smashed.

So yeah... Either I need to learn how to play Kirby under pressure or drop him, my MK adapted from game 1 to game 2 pretty well. Last stock of game 2 I figured out what was hitting him/what he was punishing and maybe I could've won game 3 if I stayed MK and punished him him (I had to come back game 2 actually cause he had the lead for 90% of game 2). But then again, I literally could've f-smashed his nado and won game 3 so... I dunno...

Advice on staying calm? I don't wanna drop Kirby, but I'm extremely discouraged with my Kirby right now because of how hard I choked today. =/

I would say to not switch characters based on losing confidence, but I see the problem now.

Instead of playing kirby or MK, play other characters.
This helped me before, so it could help you too.

I don't know what else to say about the nervousness though, other than keeping your mind clear and breathe at a normal pace.

lol everyone has bad days man, i did pretty bad at the tourney too, don't need to drop a main because of it
You didn't get 13th. Plus my brother beats my Kirby about 80% in MK vs Kirby in friendlies (we both try in our friendlies). I dunno what to do when I get down-thrown, plus recovering and getting down is really hard (even as MK, harder as Kirby). I don't think my Kirby is bad vs MK though when I have composure. I MM'd Sin today and game 1 came back from being 100% behind last stock. Game 2 I was beating Sin but Seagull was telling me to play Bloodynite and I had to tell him I was MMing, so I lost my focus and Sin came back. Game 3 I SD'd my second stock at 30%, so Sin won that. I probably should've 2-0'd Sin, but whatever, I'm not upset about that. I'm upset about choking so hard in bracket vs Uno.

This is my worst performance since the Xanadu in November last year...

@ Vinyl: That advice helps when I play Kirby/MK for a long time, cause then I start autopilotting with them because they become TOO natural, but I didn't even play many friendlies/MMs today. I just choked vs Uno (I lost to Kingtoon in winner's, but he just legit outplayed me 100%).

My main has it bad with MK but it helps learning and gaining experience in the match. Things on what to do and not to do. Although a part of me really wishes most of his attacks weren't so dang fast. That long deployment is going to suck Kewkky. Hopefully you bring something to keep you entertained. My first cruise I ran out quickly on things to do since I watched all my movies, beaten all the 3DS games, and read all my books so it felt like it drag on afterwards. I just bought that carry case that has the TV built in it and can attach my PS3 and play it. I'm bring my Wii as well since we got TVs so I can play Smash with other sailors. XD

Just hope the Japanese kanji doesn't confuse them. The Japanese version actually makes me pick up Ike, Falco, Fox, and Sonic more. I forgotten how to unlock even more rules so when I pick random it only randomly picks stages that I select for it. =/

Tilt your control stick down-and-away from MK, then techroll away from him. He can almost never punish you for that. Why didn't you ask?

plus recovering and getting down is really hard (even as MK, harder as Kirby).
You just have to get used to recovering in different ways, and push your recovery to its limits. Don't do survival DI when WoP'd, try DI'ing both upwards and downwards when launched (try different recovery directions), save your upB for when you REALLY need it since it's very punishable, sideB while recovering so you can save your jumps, use different characters to see how many different ways of recovering there are, etc etc...

[quoteThis is my worst performance since the Xanadu in November last year...[/quote]
Come on man, everyone has their ups and downs, no need to beat yourself up for that. I once lost to the PR community's resident low tier main in loser's and I can't remember why, but he was so ****ing excited and full of adrenaline that I was actually happy that he beat me. He definitely seemed like he enjoyed the games like crazy (he lost the next round, but oh well).

Point is, we all have those days where we do horrible, and we can't help it. It just happens! So let it go and just make sure you don't let it affect you during your next tourney.

I have really high expectations for myself and I only get to enter a tourney like once a month so when I lose... I have a long time before I can redeem myself. Plus my tournament before this (SKTAR) I performed lackluster as well winning no sets in bracket (only making it out of pools), so I'm really disappointed in myself. =/

I'm gonna start playing again every day though. I only practiced like three days this week and barely the week before. I feel my decision making definitely isn't at its best right now as well as having poor execution, etc. I'm gonna go into serious training every day again now though.

What percent can you tech roll the d-throw at? I'm pretty sure it stops working after certain percents. Thanks for the advice though.

You can do it at any percent, but I strongly recommend not doing it once MK can catch up to you before you touch the floor, which I'm guessing is somewhere around 70-90%?

There's a lot of neat little tricks you can do as Kirby against different characters, you just gotta look for them. Like against most characters (not the ones with invincible upBs or combo-breaking early-frame attacks), bthrow>buffered jump>uair/bair is a true combo. Good way of getting them offstage, or getting both you and your opponent in the air, but you in a better position.

Dang... SRT was probably the most hyped livestream I ever watched... Ever.

Vinnie put in soooooooooo much work! Barely lost to RAIN 80% last stock, last game second set of GFs. But Vinnie beat Brood, 9B, Otori and RAIN (the first GFs set), so he did REALLY good. I'm really proud of Vinnie for repping USA, I have no doubt Vinnie has the potential to beat anyone in the world.

M2K got 7th losing to Masha (a Japanese Falco) in loser's. Basically game 1, M2K scrooged under the stage two times, so that made him forfeit that game (he won it when they played it out, but then they had officials look at the replay and confirmed he broke the scrooging rule). Game 2, M2K was obviously flusterred/nervous due to losing game 1 that way and tried playing WAY too safe. He got the first stock and 17% on Masha's second stock, then just camped the SV platform. Eventually Masha got in a few hits and M2K was panicking (at least that's what it seemed like to me, he wasn't playing like himself) and Masha got in good hits/reads and killed his second stock with M2K barely getting any more percent. Masha hit him a few more times on his last stock and when M2K was hit offstage, he just gave up and didn't try to come back. It's really sad... M2K has such a high skill level, but his emotions get the best of him all the time. =/

Overall, while I was rooting for M2K to win SRT, I'm still proud he 2-0'd Nietono. He also 2-stocked Kairo's Olimar the weekend before, so I think M2K's come over his Olimar mental block, I look forward to seeing him beat Dabuz next time they play when M2K returns to America. And of course I'm proud of Vinnie for doing soooooo well, he repped USA well! SRT was a great tournament, the hypest livestream I can remember watching. :D

That was definitely a close game. Vinnie almost had it and I was hoping he would pull off the win. I was really surprised on how much Rain got grabbed. Of course I still can't stop laughing at the Yoshi's Island stage how that ghost with the platform appeared right as he was falling to his doom. That was real good timing. Overall good tournament. I did miss out on the beginning. I still want to attend a Japanese tournament while I'm here in Japan but I have to wait until these darn deployments are over and done with before I can try.

That was the best moment of that entire GF.

Yeah, not gonna lie, that was funny as heck especially cause it obviously didn't affect the outcome of that game since Vinnie had 2-stocks still and RAIN was at like 120% last stock. So it was really funny, I enjoyed that part of GFs. XD

It's interesting because Vinnie beat Otori when 9B could not. He also beat 9B himself, as well as everyone who beat M2K.

I'm also surprised at how well Havok performed. I knew he was good, but man he did WORK. Same with QuiKsilver.

Yeah, after SRT, I think it can be argued (still not set in stone though) that Vinnie is better than 9B. Vinnie lost to him last weekend, but Vinnie went Peach game 1 and the ICs dittos were 1-1. At SRT, Vinnie 2-0s 9B in the ditto as well as beating Otori who has beaten 9B twice recently (SRT and a single elimination tourney a few months ago).

On the note of Havok, yeah I was pretty impressed with him, he's the one who put Masha in loser's (getting DEHF practice in SoCal I'm sure is why he knew the MU well/was able to win).

I also wanna take note on Nietono's placing, I don't want people to say he did bad even though he got 13th cause look at who he lost to. 9B (like Winner's third round, they played WAY too early, IMO) who is considered by many Japan's best player and Mew2King who housed with Nietono and with a player of M2K's calibur, I'm sure he learned what Nietono does by playing him so he didn't have to learn as much during the tourney set as he would've if they never played before. I think M2K also figured out the Olimar MU when he was in Japan, he 2-0'd Nietono, 2-stocked Kairo the week before and beat Brood in a serious set. Nietono just played two really good players early (M2K or Otori were going to loser's early cause they played really early in Winner's, wasn't even quarters O.o), I don't feel his skill reflects his 13th place and is still one of Japan's best players and the best Olimar.

I'm just sad that... When we have M2K take out Nietono and Vinnie take out Otori (the top 2 at Apex 2012)... Vinnie still lost to RAIN. One way or another, America's never beating Japan. ;_;

I like how if someone (not necessarily you guys) has any relatives, regardless of how distant, that were born/lived in anywhere other than the US, people want to take credit for it. I wonder if in foreign countries, people say, "well, I'm actually a 'murrican because my great-uncle went there on business once, LOOK HOW FOREIGN AND CULTURED I AM XD".

That's the little scenario I imagined while writing this.

You might be on to something there. I've noticed that all my cousins that live in Italy are always so proud to say they have a cousin that lives in America, and everyone is always so impressed. Even when I visited last summer, everyone looked to me like I was a celebrity in that little village.
Despite the stereotype that we're the "stupid Americans" as Europe and Asia like to say, they really do envy and admire our lifestyle.

I know, it's just that I always hear people going on (rather obnoxiously, mind you) about how they're this and that (anything but a fat cowboy 'MURRICAN), and sometimes I stop and ask them a series of questions to make them think:

"So what would you refer to yourself, in terms of background?"

"I'm (overly convoluted list of European and Asian countries that someone in their extended family supposedly comes from)"

"So think about this: if a man is born in Germany, what would you refer to him as?

"Uh, German?"

"Hm... Alright, and what about someone born in Japan?

"Japanese..."

"Well what if they were born in the US?"

"American?"

"So what country were you born in?"

*silence*

"You know what, forget I said anything", as I leave to go do something productive (yeah right).

I was technically born in the US, but I was raised in Puerto Rico for 19 of my 20ish years of life. It's close enough.
